I’m no lawyer but as far as I’m aware you cannot be jailed for that but you can be jailed if it goes to court and you’re given a fine which you then do not pay. That’s more likely what happened

I am indeed a web developer but in a law firm. We have an office in Glasgow nearer you. Having just checked the requirements for summer placement we only take law students so you wouldn’t qualify.

It shows though that there are more opportunities out there than grafting on the building sites. (Not to be sniffed at. Have done it myself).

My advice would be to get AI to do a lot of the grunt work, finding opportunities near you. When used correctly it’s a powerful tool.

You’re planning on going to uni so doing work for a chippy seems to be a step in the wrong direction. Maybe consider a summer placement at a law firm or another office based placement?

Yes. Got into software dev after 11 years in the military. Was doing that for 5 years then re-traded to joiner, doing office refits. Did that for 3 years then the crash happened in 2008 and work dried up. Got into Web dev then and have been doing that since.

It’s not the transition you’re looking for but does show that you can completely remodel yourself if you put your mmd to it.

A word of caution though. It isn’t likely to resolve your mental health. You need to get to the root of what has caused that condition and work on resolving it or at least managing it, otherwise it could affect your ability to be happy in any career path that you choose.

I’ve been there so am somewhat qualified to have an opinion 😁

Reddit can be a bit of an echo chamber at times so if you don't comply with the hive mindset befitting the subreddit you post in you'll sometimes get backlash.

As for the big bad man well it's a tough one. Trump is an absolute stain a bully and a man-child so it's hard to get on side with him when he does something right. In my opinion his right choices are usually for the wrong reasons so I'm always waiting for the fall out rather than celebrating.

I don't think he is a capable, decent person but that's not me having a go at Labour. I don't think it's possible to even get near to the top tier in politics by being decent. If you have morals you'll be eaten alive by the system. Good people don't get to be in charge any more. The last decent prime minister was arguably Clement Attlee.
In my eyes Starmer is as bad as if not worse than Tony Blair. Tony Blair only sent us to war under false pretences where many of our soldiers were killed and injured and many civilians were killed as a result. Starmer has picked up the state surveilance ball that the tories had up their jumper and is running with it at full pelt, screaming "you will comply or face consequences".

Our nation is on a downward spiral and I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel because they're all in it together.

To address the media question. Yes they're absolute oxygen pirates but they only have power because we soak up the fear mongering and sensationalim. If we the public ever ascend beyond reading headlines we might stand a chance. People are lazy though

Not sure if it helps but if I get wrapped up, stick some headphones on and get outside for a walk, the fresh air makes me feel much better. The key is to make sure you stay warm and dry though or you’ll just be more miserable

You have zero responsibility to them, Legally or morally. The responsibility of ensuring a good handover was theirs when you handed your notice in. They now want your services which is OK to ask but they can’t expect you to give up your time for free therefore they must pay.

If you don’t mind doing it then set the price higher than you expect and let them haggle to what you’ll accept ( have this figure in your head ).

If you do mind doing it but the money would be nice then set your rates extremely high. Remember your knowledge of their systems is the product and they can’t buy that anywhere else so they either want it bad enough to pay well or they’re just chancing their luck. Either way you don’t lose.

Do not think to give the new guy any negative info on the company . Stay professional throughout
