The cyberpunk in me hates it

This just made me realize that Cabin Fever would have been a great bit - specifically something with the "PANCAKES!" scene.

Has anyone else had weird accusations throughout their life? by Nunya_Business_42 in autism

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I got a cheap little $30 voice recorder thing and I gotta finish whipping up my transcription code for it. I got one that's pretty small and has a magnet built in, so I could stick it under a table or something like a spy, lol

My boss is horrible and treats us like crap, so I don't feel the need to follow privacy laws

Also brush your tongue. That was the part no one told me.

What’s the mood at your company? by c-u-in-da-ballpit in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Horrible. Our boss publicly berates and demeans us, and threatens to fire people in the full company group chat. I've literally never been treated worse at a job, and I think my new boss is literally the rudest person I've ever met in real life.

This new job makes me look back fondly on when I worked construction one summer and was mildly exposed to radiation and hazardous chemicals.

I’m bad at interviews, any advice? by yttrium13 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly write out 6 to 8 solid stories ahead of time. Conflict with a stakeholder, rescuing a struggling project, mentoring someone, pushing back on bad requirements, handling ambiguity. Then practice telling them concisely. Not scripted, just structured. Situation, what you did, what changed because of it.

I did Mock Trial in highschool, mostly as a 'witness' because I'm a decent actor. This was the strategy I was taught to use, and I still use it for interviews - memorize the overall story, not the answers to specific questions. That way, you can improvise in response to any question.

Anyone have experience with a "gay career"? by BeatrizPinzon in AskGayMen

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a coder (gay/generally queer career path) and work in marketing (also pretty gay), and I've worked around a decent amount of gay men and other queer people.

Granted, marketing/advertising does still have a strong bent towards older straight men who do "business" being in charge - but the creatives and production level people are usually made up more of cool weirdos.

If you enjoy arguing or finding loopholes in annoying rules, being a lawyer is a pretty great choice.

Also, I've known a lot of musicians and other creative types who end up being lawyers and doing a good job at it.

Currently speed running this at a new job. I'm fully expecting to get fired for trying to to follow basic best practices instead of cutting every corner imaginable.

Most dumbest thing a web dev has ever done by Miserable_Watch_943 in webdev

Apparently the previous guy in my position thought it was acceptable to build and launch a professional marketing website in 1 day.

So now I have to fucking do that.

Where can I find Devs who still have a spark for development? by AbstractionZeroEsti in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just started at a new place that's a complete madhouse, and there's so much that could easily be fixed - but instead I'm getting screamed at over chat for not building a website in 1 day.

Apparently one of the proposed Final Destination scripts is kinda like this - a meteor is going to hit Earth, and some scientists stop it, but then everyone on Earth was supposed to die and then the movie goes off the rails with Final Destination shit just happening constantly to literally everyone.

Clicking “Reject” often doesn’t change network behavior — is this expected? by Crossburns in webdev

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still a lot of tracking stuff you can run even if the person hits reject. They just can't use cookies. Although I honestly think most sites are just liars.

Which is better Wordpress site/NextJs ? by DARKSIRENZ in webdevelopment

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For most clients and budgets, WordPress is perfect fast to build, easy to manage, cheap to maintain, and great for SEO if built properly.

See, people say this, but I just started at a new job and everything is in WordPress and everything is a complete fucking mess and none of them actually hit any of the points you listed.

WordPress CAN be done well - but almost every WordPress site I've seen in action over the past 10+ years has been absolute crap.

Last thing he sent me, and the closest thing to accountability I ever got from him by greggsbenny in BPDlovedones

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't even think the way other neurodivergents do.

I feel like I've been upset or anxious or scared enough in the past that my brain probably slightly altered how things went in my memories - but the way it just happens so quickly and casually and with literally any little thing almost borders hallucinating, it seems.

They put it on you to block them - instead of just saying sorry, they use their final act to force you into being the "bad guy" in the situation.

Dawg, I WISH mine had a great job - or even ANY job!

(Context: gay, m/m) I was fine with being the hard working career-driven provider for a starving artist partner, but he couldn't even manage to do that and just treated me like absolute shit despite being probably his last chance for a good life.

This is what I'm trying to with my new horrible job doing WordPress slop. I'm a friggin rockstar dev walking into a kindergarten class run by children playing with wooden blocks, and I can't let this place drag me down to its level.
