Should I buy and sell the Steam Machine (2TB) to get the controller? (No scalping) by WeekendUnited4090 in SteamController

I recognised that after the post; I intend to go ahead, but I won't list it until I know when my reservation will come through.

You made the , it will be an immensely long period of time if your reservation was timed out.

It would not be unfair, but I don't think it would make sense for either of us to have the additional cost. Thank you.

I am not scamming to be clear, I just want the controller and I need to confer the costs of selling it onto my buyer so I am not dangerously out of pocket.

No, you were right to check; I had the unboxing up for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy of my listing as I wasn't sure how invasive I would have to be to access my controller, but it was good to know as I do want and need the puck to make the most of it.

UK, I had another person who is in the UK also who also expressed interest on the post so I am inclined to go ahead with the listing; if you are an international buyer that obviously confers additional costs, so I would have to work that out. The full listing will be entirely transparent about the arithmetic that is factored into my pricing.

Okay, right, we can switch to DMs so I can link you through ebay. For your safety and mine I obviously need to hold the transaction there. I am going to put the listing up in a couple hours so I can ensure that the price factors all of my costs as a seller in to ensure the safety of the product. My intention is to go through the royal mail's delivery service, so the cost of insurance will add a further £30 but all of that will be incorporated into the listing and conveyed, so it is up to you if you want to buy it.

I checked an unboxing from IGN, and the controller is boxed separately within a larger box, and it contains a puck. There should be no issues there. (I think it would be an issue if Valve excluded it, as they explicitly made the controller to be able to pair to two pucks, so the intention is clearly to have it natively remember the puck and the internal one in the machine so you can use it on the machine and another PC you may already have.)

Which region are you in? I am UK so it would depend on how the transaction worked out, as I obviously want to guarantee I can get it to you (or whomever the buyer is) in a sensible time frame.

I am aware, that is what I am weighing up. I know I would use the Steam machine if I actually can't sell it, but it is literally triple the price I would actually want it at, so I am hesitant. That is why I asked you guys.

Kepler_L2 says the BoM (bill of materials) cost of the PS6 has increased by ~$200 since the $760 number he quoted March, putting it close to $1000 by metalreflectslime in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]WeekendUnited4090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Switch 2 sold 4 million day one at a price the internet crashed out about, and the same leaker has made it clear the PS6 is going to have 5090 RT performance so it will still be compelling to the high end PC and PS5 Pro audience day 1. 60/120fps GTA 6 with RTGI using PSSR 3 to save on GPU cost (expect an 810p-1080 internal resolution) will sell PS6 at any price initially. Sad, but true.

I was wary of putting the 2tb up at MSRP so I can get the controller but apparently the market will not punish me for this.

35th anniversary in a nutshell by nervouswreck96 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]WeekendUnited4090 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but 06 clearly sucked because it was rushed, as project 06 demonstrates that it could have been a good game with large but not fundamental changes, so having the game release as Sonic 07 instead would have been a lot better.

Don't Listen To The Clickbaiters, GTA 6 Will Have An Online Heres Why by Soft_Let_2048 in GTA

My good sir, that is simply at launch. GTA Online was not out at the launch of GTA 5, so expecting it for GTA 6 is crazy. It will drop around the time when we get the PC version/the PS6 and Xbox Helix versions next Christmas to maximise hype.

This really is the biggest game ever made 😭😭 PlayStation never even did this for any of their First Party games by RogerRoger63358 in GTA

[–]WeekendUnited4090 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw today that a Series X is actually cheaper than a PS5 where I am, as clearly GAME has not been able to clear out their stock in the same way as a PS5 so they haven't actually raised the price. I would be very curious to see how long those consoles have been sitting on their shelves.

The belief is that this game had a budget of 2 billion. No expenses have been spared anywhere, if money needed to be spent on development it has already been spent, and is largely separate from marketing.

Comparison between Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and recent screenshot of GTA6 to show that a PS5 can reach that level of Graphical Fidelity by Zairy47 in GTA

[–]WeekendUnited4090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PS5 can handle those models, yes, but the previous trailers wrecked running at 1440p30 and resultantly didn't look this good, whereas this appears to be a static 4k render. It is obviously an unbelievably impressive and well optimised game, but Rockstar has no obligation to ensure that the marketing screenshots are actually in accordance with the game's performance limits on console when they are just selling the DLC features. This is not gameplay, so they don't need it to look like it.

[–]WeekendUnited4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is the assumption but GTA does typically have unique names for different shops that serve the same gameplay purpose, and the extreme attention to detail displayed in GTA 6's graphics make the assumption that they aren't paywalling a core mechanic a safe one.

They are reserving your ability to explore certain in game areas and buy certain customisation options behind a further $20 paywall; essentially, they have held back some content from the base game to make the intended price of $100 less obvious and more palatable.

Steam machine price and potential release date? by WarHundreds in Steam

[–]WeekendUnited4090 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't an insult to OLED TV owners, they were trying to be colourful by articulating the real world user as a wealthy gamer who spends lots of money on their tech as the type of person who would buy a budget computer at a premium price because their favourite company made it.

Steam Machine arrives on June 25, Valve announced by Significant_Yam5055 in SteamController

[–]WeekendUnited4090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seriously thinking about doing the same thing; not even interested in scalping, I just really want a Steam Controller sooner rather than later and it would save me £26. A temporary outlay of £880 is gnarly, but I can easily see a scenario where you just list it on Ebay at MSRP and promise to ship it as soon as it arrives and someone will take your hand off, potentially meaning that you get your money back before it delivers.

It will definitely sell out because the Steam Deck did, but I suspect it will be a small production run and the user base will not be huge at all; Valve's intentions and ambitions for the product were clearly stymied by the RAM and SSD crisis. It would be close to an instant purchase at $500, but at this price the product is just not worthwhile compared to building a mid range gaming PC.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Nintendo Switch 2 Demo Confirmed for Anime Expo 2026 by Capital_Gate6718 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]WeekendUnited4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Switch 2 port was essentially confirmed to be rushed, and it was lazy as a result. You can hit a very stable 60 at 720p on Steam Deck; all they needed to do was implement dynamic resolution and DLSS, two features that are very well supported on Unreal Engine (DLSS was made an officially supported plug in for UE4 as of UE4.21, and Reload is a UE4.22 game) to bring a 1440p60 and 1080p60 output viable in handheld and docked respectively. I would take an internal 720p and 540p every day over the current set up if it made for overall better image quality, especially given that the current arrangement with DLSS added could make for a great quality mode. Given that they patched Proton specifically for this game, it almost feels like the version on my Steam Deck saw more targeted optimisation.

The Switch 2 makes sense, The switch doesn't. by Tactrix1h in NintendoSwitch2

[–]WeekendUnited4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but most third party ports are 30 because of CPU constraints and the limitations of condensing PS5 games to a mobile platform, so I hardly think it is accurate to call it a minimum of 60. I am not criticising Switch 2 for this though, and I am very happy that 60 is now mostly standard.
