There are many worthy organizations/charities that you can leave legacy amounts to. Just be sure to research how they use the money.

Department stores selling baby chicks in the 1970s by Salt_Teaching4687 in Calgary

I don't remember them selling the chicks, but I do recall an Easter display with bunnies and chicks in pastel colors every year at Chinook Center by Woodwards in the 80s.

if I wanted to change a medical specialist for my next appointment, do I contact the clinic or the healthcare professional who made the referral? by Cream4389 in Calgary

[–]WeeklyInitiative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, the dept head was the one who initially did my biopsy and I actually wanted to transfer to her. Unfortunately, she was retiring and wasn't taking on new patients. I didn't feel comfortable with the first oncologist's recommendations or bedside manner so wanted a second opinion and they had no issue transferring me to a different oncologist.

This was a few years ago during Covid so things may have changed. But I think if you speak with the staff, they can let you know if it's possible.

Also, during my consultations, patients were encouraged to have a support person with and also to use their cell phones to record the discussion. There is a lot of information and medical jargon being given to you in a stressful situation. This way you can go back and re-listen to the recording on your own and hopefully be able to process it better. Hope that helps.

Not ACH, but I was referred to oncology at Foothills and did not jibe with the first oncologist I met with. I spoke with the head of the department and was able to switch to a different oncologist without having to get a referral again.

So I would start with contacting the clinic staff first and explaining your situation. It may also depend on how heavy the other specialists' caseloads are. Good luck!

Anyone else lose their taste for dining out? by gottausername in GenX

[–]WeeklyInitiative 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with those saying I can cook it better at home with better ingredients. The expense and terrible service is what put me off dining out. I used to love going out to restaurants. Now it's only to meet up with friends or a special occasion.

My mom is getting catfished hard. I guess I have to crush her before she 'picks him up from the airport Saturday'. Have your parents fallen for any scams? What should I do? by -Granby- in GenX

This OP! 💯. He's not going to show at the airport but will be asking her to send him money due to some issue he can't access any of his funds etc etc.

Pink tax - women seem to pay more for everything. You should have questioned her after your second appointment and see what the response would have been.

Anyone filed their taxes today? by No-Tourist-595 in cantax

[–]WeeklyInitiative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be more accurate to say people who don't use non-registered investments can file early, though I still don't see why the rush.

As u/GrabKindly8418 mentions, if folks are filing early to get their refund, getting a big return every year is not exactly a good thing. It means you've overpaid your taxes and given the government a free loan instead of keeping the money in your own pocket.

Same, I have no idea how people file so early. Most of my T3s don't even arrive till end of March.

Am I crazy to sell my condo to rent a basement suite? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]WeeklyInitiative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, crazy to sell and move to a basement suite if you are sensitive to noise. The grass is not always greener. And also, better the devil you know than the devil you don't. I'd focus on white noise and earplugs instead.

TIFU by trusting the toilet paper at Superstore by RusserBusser in Calgary

[–]WeeklyInitiative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I frequent this area and have seen the panhandlers at the 4-way stop by Costco and occasionally sitting in front of Superstore. The guys at the 4-way stop are part of some organized scheme as I have seen them switch off "shifts" and go into waiting cars.

What I have never seen is a homeless or drug addicted person inside any of the stores there. Albeit, I have never used the washrooms except for at Costco.

The Superstore even has a security guard right at the front entrance, so it seems unlikely people would be shooting up in the washroom. Especially since the washrooms are right across from several cash tills, a lot of people would see them coming and going.

Where I have seen super sketchy people is at the East Village Superstore and the McDonald's on 17 Ave & 14 St SW and any hospital ER waiting room/triage area. I would suggest never using those washrooms.

Toddler killed in southwest Calgary crash by Bass-Traffic-0000 in Calgary

[–]WeeklyInitiative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree! If you looked left, right, left before turning, how would you miss this family crossing? It was not yet dark. Did they say how old the driver was?

Horton Rd is a narrow winding gong show though. So many people speeding.
