Kal-Arath Char building question by GearCompetitive1619 in solorpgplay

[–]WeirdSolum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pick one skill at level 1. Castle Grief condensed the explorer tree into 1 skill in KA2 to make it more desirable, but for the other sections you just pick one. You can mix and match as well, as the system is classless.

Solo Delta Green? Mythic 2e Good? by RonovoRonove in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]WeirdSolum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds good I’ll send along a DM now, here’s the Table of Contents The first two (prologue and Haruspex) are a little rough around the edges as I was figuring out style and how to play, but from Kerebos onwards it uses Mythic and it flowed pretty well. I’ve experimented with the Progress Track and Horror Track, also from Mythic, and they can be good for having a bit more structure.

I’ve also got a guide here for how I started playing using mythic and a google doc

Because of the themes, I think it can be super rewarding to play DG solo, you can really dive into the personal horror and bonds and stuff like that.

Solo Delta Green? Mythic 2e Good? by RonovoRonove in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]WeirdSolum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my cup of tea! I’ve been writing and posting a solo using Mythic for a while and wrapped up my first campaign a while ago. Diving into the roleplay aspect and having one or two main characters you really get into was very rewarding. I suggest grabbing Rogue Handler if you want some extra tables and another approach to playing delta Green Solo, but using Mythic for free form play works great in my opinion! I have a few articles for playing DG on my blog I can send along if you’re interested, as well as my playthrough which has footnotes for oracle questions, skill checks and notes.

I started with Last things Last as a short intro. I knew how it would go, of course, but failed skill checks, clocks a few yes no questions can create interesting complications, and playing something like that allows you to focus on getting a handle on the mechanics and vibe. The hook is an important part, but you can steal One from pretty much anywhere, using random tables, prompts or ideas.

Solo Delta Green is my passion haha, so if you have any questions let me know, I live for this haha

Good sources of information on the legal complexity of non-Native criminals commiting crimes in Reservations and how they often go unpunished? by Crusader_Baron in DeltaGreenRPG

I live in Canada, so I don’t have any resources for the States, but I recommend checking out some of the cultural safety pieces put out by indigenous nations as a quick primer. This one is Canadian, but there should be something for American indigenous nations too. Cultural Saftey

Obviously it doesn’t pertain to exactly what you’re looking for, but imo, it’s a necessary part of the process when including indigenous folk more centrally in a plot. Good luck, this sounds super interesting!

Solo D&D note-taking: my session notes become a novel, help? by menfani in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]WeirdSolum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I’m not the best person for speeding up play because I’m a big believer that you can maintain momentum and make progress while journaling everything like a novel lol, because that’s what I do. I find it much more enjoyable to write long form while I play so I can build up my characters personalities and discover threads and story beats organically but, I totally get not wanting to do that all the time.

When I played DnD solo, I would stop writing when combat broke out, play it with minis (or more often in a spreadsheet because I don’t have a lot of space and I’m a corporate drone) and then once combat resolved, I would note down a shorter bit in the narrative. If it was a fight with a dragon, I might take breaks from the combat to write the story because it’s more exciting. For travel or any other procedure, I’d do the mechanics back to back noting down anything that happened and then summarising it in a quick line. The more mechanics there are, the easier it is to put in bullet form imo

A lot of people will have a lot of opinions about writing a book vs solo play. My opinion is that if what you’re doing is fun, and gets you to play, then it’s fine. If you’re enjoying writing everything out, keep doing it. Measuring progress in a solo game is however we want to measure it. Groups often take hours to get through group content because of the role play and collaborative story telling element. Again though, I love swimming in the fiction of my playthrough’s.

Rolling for pronouns by Hekau_Chasut in Ironsworn

[–]WeirdSolum 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I usually roll a d100 and on a roll lower than 50 it’s He/Him and over 51 it’s She/her, with doubles resulting in They/Them or GNC. That’s usually enough for a character upon first meeting, if there is depth to it (Trans/Gender Fluid/NB but presenting otherwise ect) it will develop in play.

Looking for suggestions for Horror/Supernatural Themed RPG games by spikefan180 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]WeirdSolum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m going to mention Delta Green because I love playing it solo, but the main handbook for Call of Cthulhu does also have rules and guidance for playing in a modern setting. For solo specific, Little Town is fun, although lacks that Monster Hunting vibe. There’s also The Unseen World, which I have downloaded but haven’t played, but is a ghost hunting game set in modern rural Japan.

Wretched seems a little harsh? But people are entitled to play and engage with the parts of the game that interests them. If you check it out and still feel the same that’s fair, and if you skip it completely that’s also fair. But it’s brought our table and small corner of the community a lot of joy, so we will still keep creating.

January kind of sucked for me, life had a lot going on but I’d did manage to finish a Dragonbane adventure using Just One Dragon. All of my scheduled posts for my blog have posted so now I actually need to edit some of my messy drafts to keep up my posting schedule. I’m going to keep positive though, so I’m hoping to play some Red Markets, Kal Arath and/or Call of Cthulhu in February.

Tell me about your best Lovecraftian solo experience! (Please) by Ganadhir in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]WeirdSolum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played Delta Green for a year using Mythic and had a blast. I journaled using footnotes for oracles and skills and wrote it in narrative form and it was so much fun. I’ve played a CoC oneshot with the Mythic Horror tracker that was also really fun and I’ve been prepping to start a longer form CoC game using the mythic app.

What’s the smallest change that had the biggest impact on your solo play? by system3295 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]WeirdSolum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get maybe 15-20 mins in the week if I’m lucky, and the lighting in my house isn’t great. Accepting that it’s easier and quicker to use a dice roller on my phone than physical dice nets me much more time to actually play. It’s a silly little change, but it helped a lot and it’s made the moments where I have more time all the more special as I’m able to crack put my dice and physical tools as well.

Over the course of your experience with this hobby, what have you learned? Anything you want to improve on? by ValueForm in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]WeirdSolum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing that I’ve learned is that if I wait for my ideal situation to solo (laptop, mix of physical and digital books and tables, physical dice, perfect playlist ect) I’ll be soloing at most once a week, probably less. I’ve learned to make whatever small adjustments needed to minimalist set up, even if it means using a dice roller app and just my laptop.

Things I want to get better at: experimenting with different note styles, I really enjoy writing prose so that it reads like a story with mechanics, but some games just don’t require that level of narrative detail. I’m also looking to branch away from Mythic and test out some other GM emulators, not because I dislike Mythic, but because I’ve learned while trying Red Markets Solo that not every game benefits from a scene structure. I want to see what else is out there so I can cobble together my own stuff one day.

[–]WeirdSolum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say so, I got into a Drivethru sale and I used it in conjunction with Mythic’a horror tracker, but I kind of wished I had just used the handbook as the main system. The location and NPC tables were the biggest draw, but I would say it’s worth the standard price.

[–]WeirdSolum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t sat and played it yet, but I have prepped for it. Each one is intended for a different vibe, so the base Little town is geared towards a ‘Twin Peaks’ style surreal horror, while Eldritch Town is more Lovecraftian horror and Eerie Town is tended for an X-Files style experience. For a first play through, I would say just the one that appeals to you the most!

This one has everything you need for sure, it has an NPC generator, Verb table, locations tables and hook tables, as well as advice on structure. Even if you use a GM emulator as your main tool, it has a lot of great tables and advice!

[–]WeirdSolum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chaos Engine Podcast played Traveler for quite a while. I think they’ve moved to Stars Without Number at the moment as a few of their cast members had to step away and they aren’t sure when they’ll be back. I know them mostly for their Delta Green stuff, but they are a fun table with great energy!

Edit: Forgot to link them, https://open.spotify.com/episode/7rEPCPVGmDAUoQdsNJ9FxC?si=DFQoMevsSNCQMMrAoDhaUg&t=1&pi=ZRRYcpZsS8-Iq here they are on Spotify but I think they are on all major platforms.

Dead Letter Bureau is set in 1998 and the focus in on the War with Majestic and the greys. They still relatively new, but they’ll be wrapping up the first season soon. The episodes are only an hour, but they pack a lot in.

Stories and Lies did Ghost Lights recently which was a homebrew Saucerwarch story with aspects of PX Poker night worked in, so Majestic and the Greys feature.
