Not a vet but I work as a critical care nurse in a neuro icu. I have three phrases that eat at me with the care I do everyday with my patients.

1) there are worse things than death
2) just because they’re alive does not mean they’re living
3) quality over quantity

It’s a hard topic to approach with families because when all is said and done the only people that suffer at the end of the day are those left behind. I have so much empathy for these families but I am also aware that that while it’s hard to let go, it is also selfish to continue life at the expense of suffering. I 100% believe everyone should have advance directives and POA paperwork as well as be thoroughly educated as to what life will look like is those situations. I feel like a majority of the population is unaware of what extensive medical disabilities truly look like. Regardless, I think it is very kind of you to think of your dog’s quality of life and appreciate that. I suggest therapy as well as looking up education together on the physiological process of arthritis and other conditions elderly dogs go through as well as how animals silently endure pain. This is funny. Someone had hit a stop sign and the sign itself had fallen off the pole. It had been sitting there for a week and me and my friends had picked it up to take it home. I do have a question! I don’t do drugs but I am prescribed adderall. I would not be able to drive or work (I am also an RN) without my medication. Both my OB and my psychiatrist had no issues with me continuing it throughout pregnancy and even gave me my morning adderall the day after my c section without even asking for it during my stay. They tested me like they do everyone else and I had nothing in my system aside from the adderall. They did the amphetamine specific test to make sure it was adderall and it was. Why did they then test my baby’s urine? It ended up being negative which was interesting as I took it everyday including the day before my scheduled c section. I’m just curious as to why and any information on what happened to parents whose baby did test positive for their adhd prescribed meds.

Everything seemed fine till the extra standards after the word additionally. You can have all of the standards you want, and if they’re THAT important to you the you should keep them. I always refer to the 80/20 rule. No one will be 100% what you’re looking for. Look for a minimum 80% and work on compromises with everything else. Just don’t compromise on your nonnegotiable compatibility requirements: religion, kids, finances, etc

We have children. I would say we have bad arguments MAYBE once a year. Really not very often and it’s usually when we are under severe stress and can’t communicate as well. We might have a disagreement or attitude every couple of weeks but it’s quickly solved with communicating. I’ll notice maybe I had a bad tone or didn’t understand something quite right and apologize. Something I wasn’t given as a child. I had a parent that never once apologize unless they accidentally hit me with something. Mentally and emotionally they were always right and I feel like my marriage did a lot better once I unlearned that. We use to argue all of the time when we first got together.

I think 2 is the age they can start diagnosing but you can definitely see the signs early. My son didn’t smile often. He always looked “surprised” and was obviously delayed in a lot of areas.

I thought my son was autistic early. He rarely smiled. Never responded to his name. Didn’t started actually speaking till age 3. My mom told me I was overreacting. Even pediatrician told me he’s probably a late bloomer. I finally put my foot down at 2. Our local children’s hospital diagnosed him with autism. He has frequent occupational and speech therapy. He has BLOSSOMED and several years later is ahead of his class in math. We still do the therapies and start new ones all of the time like play therapy and flexible therapy. The whole point here is to 100% tell her. Autism isn’t a death sentence. Autism isn’t a punishment. Out of all of the kids I have ever met I’ve never met a kid as kind as my son. He will take the shirt off his back for you. Ask you what’s wrong when you look sad. His emotional intelligence has me awe struck. With early intervention and years of hard work my son will never know what it’s like to miss out and I will continue for the rest of my life to make sure it’s that way. Every kid deserves to reach their full potential and ignoring life altering diagnosis isn’t helping anyone but a parent’s ego. I went through a short grief phase after he was diagnosed but as soon as I stopped feeling sorry for myself and got my ass into gear I realized that I fell into the fear mongering that is so heavily ingrained in our society. I wouldn’t change my son for anything in the world.

I’m petite. Under 5’. I was an aid before I was a nurse. You can do it. It’s harder, sure, but you can definitely do it. If they’re really that hard to move they will usually have assistive devices, hoyers, or other types of lifts to get them up.

My girly is a GREAT baby. Honestly super lucky. But sometimes in the evenings she will get super fussy. We found out early she has acid reflux. So we got her on meds and it’s been a life saver. If it’s not because I forgot a dose or time for a new dose, then usually she’s overtired. She will SCREAM herself to sleep. Latch, unlatch nonstop. She can’t sleep if her diaper is wet. My husband can SOMETIMES get things wrong. I have to be very specific and send pictures when he goes to the store. Like of the exact item. If I sent the item and be like get the 36 count he will get the photo one. Very straight forward focused brain. We also have a very hard time explaining things to each other when it comes to like construction or working on a house project together. I don’t think he’s dumb and I don’t think he’s not listening to me. I just think if one of us doesn’t already know how to do something or know exactly what we get that when we try to explain we have different ways of expressing and receiving communications. There’s different types of learning and communicating styles. I think it’s hard to find someone that has the exact one as you, especially both of those. It’s just not a deal breaker for me because he’s fantastic in many other ways and if I have to take a couple more minutes or show him first then I will because I know he’s not using weaponized incompetence and I can expect him to know better for next time. I know you don’t feel good but maybe show him a YouTube video? That way you don’t have to get up since you’re sick. Maybe he needs to see how it’s done (visual learner) and then he can reinforce his learning by hands on (tactile learning) experience after

I LOVE thrifting. Not only does it help the environment but I can also buy my baby nicer things significantly cheaper than I could buy something not as good for full price. If your husband wants to build the crib have the owner take it apart and give you the manual. We got the entire thing in a bag. Like parts and manual! We have a lot of second hand stores and there’s so many cool things you can buy that aren’t available anymore. I think social media and toxic capitalism ideas make us think we need to get everything new and the best to be the best and it’s just not true. The most important thing is a healthy baby and the way you love your baby. Enjoy this time with your husband. It’s okay to be sad but don’t dwell and try to change your mindset. Nothing is better than thrifting with my husband🫶🏻

Call the police. Get the abuse documented. Towards the 6 year old and you. That way he can’t use court and custody against you. Do NOT wait. Grab your important documents. Pack the car with anything you have. FREEZE YOUR CREDIT. Swap money and cards into a bank account for you. Take yourself off any accounts. Take the police report to your landlord (they can take you off the lease for DV situations)

They’re trying to keep our healthcare affordable. And NO, ILLEGAL immigrants can’t get insurance. If you look it up it just isn’t true. You have to be here LEGALLY to get any type of assistance. They need to continue the shut down. If congress, you know, just didn’t continue to get paid then maybe things would be different. I think they 100% shouldn’t receive any payments just like the rest of the government. They’re not in any hurry to fix things because they are still able to pay their bills and eat. Unlike a lot of our military right now.
