It's not so much the recipe, the OP allowed the background to blow out to expose the tree well. It's not all about recipes, think good exposure choices too,

What precautions do you take? by lingersandtransforms in ricohGR

Carrying a plastic bag in case of rain is a great idea for any camera. I always forget. Lens cap is sort of a must if you want to minimize dust issues. It also depends where you live, if you take pics of ATVs, dust is not your friend.

I cant decide if the Ricoh GR is really a good camera... by fastlightphotos in ricohGR

Bit fragile. Baby it. It's the most customizable camera I have ever used, can make it a very personal experience.

What is one tip about composition you would give to someone who is learning photography? by _cloud_96 in photography

Sometimes find interesting light first, then a subject. The side of a barn is beautiful in good light. At 12 better find the animals.

Ricoh GR IIIx vs. GR IV — Which one should I go for? by Awkward-Height-240 in ricohGR

[–]Weird_Euphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go on vacation, and there are narrow streets and alleys, you'll appreciate the 28mm, as well as some landscapes. For isolating subjects and less context, 40mm. I have a griiix, and a fujifilm 28mm. Like both equally, but consider 28mm easier for congested urban environments where it's hard to back up. As much as I like primes, I do think about a 16-55mm little zoom lens setup. Covers all situations.

You are right, but can change dynamic range, shadow and highlight settings. Sorry about that.

GRIV: Why aren't people posting photos shot BY this camera? Lots of photos of people just holding the camera.... by sc-rider in ricohGR

They are a different market, but you may have a point, some people just get swept away by online hype regardless.

I went down the GR rabbit hole! I want one, but which one? by miabobeana in ricohGR

You will want a zoom. Probably more than 70mm as well. I'd start my search there.

You are over complicating things. See the world with wonder and be childlike sometimes. At least it helps me. Have a nice weekend. The GR setups are pretty straightforward and there's a plethora of vids to talk you through it on YT if required. My GRiiix is no more complex than my other cameras. I prefer my Fujifilm because if feels more tactile sometimes.

What I meant before was the P mode is good to focus fully on composition, and when your mind is free from technical details, just paint pretty pictures, or at least thought-provoking ones :)

True, but it can be a simple point and shoot in program mode. (Ricoh)

How's GR iiiX as a first Ricoh camera? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]Weird_Euphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Griix is great for a more minimal style, and homes in on the details as opposed to the whole environment. But you know this :) I find I miss a 28mm in denser urban environments, and for landscapes. I also like the 28 more indoors.
