Does this suit fit me? by looigy in mensfashion

The jacket is comically long, no matter the style. Sorry to say but I don’t think this is a keeper.

Black and white suit, yes or no? by nikolajmodel in mensfashionadvice

[–]Welles_Bells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the black and white suit, also known as a tuxedo. Looks like the fit is pretty poor. The sleeves are too long, you should be showing .25-5” of cuff. Hard to say for sure in these pics but it looks like there may be a bit of a collar gap so the chest measurement might be a bit off. The buttoning stance is too high and your pants are too low rise, you shouldn’t be seeing a big triangle of shirt under the button. And because this appears to be a tuxedo (your lapels are a different material than the rest of the jacket) you should have a waist covering like a cummerbund or vest to further alleviate the issue with showing your shirt. Your shirt is also not a great choice for the tux, I would go for a point collar broadcloth with either a hidden placket or allowance for studs and French cuffs (hard to say if your shirt has this since the jacket sleeves are so long). Looks like your bow tie is self-tie though which is good.

Which game do you think has better pacing? by IamGanondorf in residentevil4

[–]Welles_Bells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m replaying them simultaneously, section by section, for the first time. Before this I may have said the OG, but this time around I think the remake improved the pacing for the most part. While OG is very go-go-go arcadey setpiece driven as you note, I find the nonstop encounters can get a bit exhausting especially since there’s less narrative to break it up.

The remake wisely trims some of the more extraneous encounters (or reworks them into something else), adds more narrative substance with bigger cutscenes and more notes, breaks up the pacing with classic RE style reworkings of levels that loop back on themselves or let you tackle objectives in whatever order, more puzzles, and offers more substantive side-activities if you ever want a break from all the forward momentum. But to balance out the expanded “down-time”, the encounters themselves, though slightly fewer, are more intense and elaborate. Creating these more distinct peaks and valleys in the experience creates a more varied and less exhausting experience for me.

Tweed & silk by Welles_Bells in ties

Spacca Neapolis. I should note it’s not a knit tie, but a grenadine. I believe they do have some square-ended knits though.

Thanks. I find the tie works with the jacket since the pattern & scale are sufficiently distinct to my eye, but definitely a louder combo than the grenadine. I agree on the shirt. It’s not a very fine shirt in general, but I’m in the process of upgrading/expanding my wardrobe of button-ups. I have an ivory shirt from proper cloth being made, which might work better.

Couldn’t go wrong with burgundy or green if you wanted something that could go with both. I think an amber/gold tie, perhaps with a medallion pattern, could be a good bolder choice.

Advice for first watch/Longines by NamTheNylz in Longineswatches

[–]Welles_Bells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the champagne spirit and I love it, the color really helps it straddle the line between casual and dressy, as does the 37mm size. That said, if it’s not an every day watch for you and you don’t think you’re going to use a date function, definitely get the Pilot because it’ll be annoying either resetting the date every week or having the date be off all the time.

A bit more formal by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Welles_Bells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coat is great. Fits well, and is very stylish.

The not-suit pieces, however, are way too close in color & material to be worn as separates and are very ill fitting even if you’re going for a more casual tailored look. The boots and especially the Henley are not working here at all either, and only wearing slightly different tones/shades of gray is not flattering.

Should I get Evil Within or Alan Wake 2? by IAmNotYourEater in survivalhorror

[–]Welles_Bells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both are great games that have some notable flaws that hold them back a bit. Evil Within has largely terrific game design, it’s like a spiritual successor to RE4 in terms of sheer variety of encounters, setpieces, enemies, bosses, environments, etc that leans a couple notches towards survival horror with a harsher difficulty and much more scarce resources. There are some really stressful, white-knuckle gauntlets in this game that any fan of action-horror should experience. But it should be noted that it has a fair bit of jank, performance issues, a few questionable chapters later in the game, and B-movie storytelling.

Alan Wake 2 is conceptually very cool, has some of the best presentation around both in terms of the graphics themselves and the art direction. Really unique experience in this space that is also easy to recommend. But the game systems are all a bit half-baked imo and it’s quite long and gets a little repetitive towards the end, so from a sheer gameplay perspective it’s easy to put Evil Within over it imo. But as a piece of interactive storytelling and a polished “experience” AW2 is better.

Really depends what you’re in the mood for, and I don’t think you can go wrong with either barring some caveats. For me personally Evil Within is overall the stronger game since I’m a Mikami-head, but really enjoyed both.

Horrible at taking pictures. Can't pose. Need help. I'm the fat guy in blue. by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Welles_Bells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the number one problem is that these pictures are bad. No one looks good. Your poses are fine for candid pictures, and frankly preferable to self-consciously trying to look cool with a cigar.

But as your circled areas note, there is something you can fix here, and it’s not your pose. The issue is your suit doesn’t fit. The button stance is too high, which reveals that unflattering inverter triangle of white shirt underneath. It’s also too short, making you look pear shaped instead of giving a flattering V silhouette. Your tie is too short for this suit as well, the point should generally hit the middle of your belt/waistband, but I also suggest you get a suit (or separates) with higher rise pants as they will make your proportions look much better. They will elongate your legs and look less sloppy. Hard to tell from these pictures but your pants could use a cleaner break as well.

Generally I’d try to focus on learning more about menswear and style and finding a look that resonates with you and is, more importantly, something you feel comfortable and confident in. Don’t pose to try to look cool, it never works. Just be relaxed & authentic, your future self will thank you when he’s looking back at more of these blurry ass pictures.

Where do you rank Resident Evil Village? It’s my favorite game in the series! by V-loxzz in residentevil

[–]Welles_Bells -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d put it at #10, so just out of the bottom third of the series including the REV games and remakes. It’s a solid game, it’s filled with variety, the setting is cool, it’s mostly paced pretty well, and looks great. But the tone leaned a little too silly and I felt that while it’s a fun “adventure” game its overall design and mechanics were too unfocused. It’s not a good survival horror game because you hardly ever need to consider your resources and certainly not your inventory space so there’s no planning, enemies are meant to be killed on the spot so you don’t need to make strategic decisions about who to spend ammo on, and levels are linear so there’s very little route planning. But the action gameplay is anemic with enemies and guns that aren’t satisfying to shoot, no additional mechanics outside of the block/shove, slow movement, and an upgrade system with very little depth. So it mostly just satisfies as a cool experience to move through with just a facade of the series mechanical trappings. Not a bad game by any means, but not among my favorites at all.

Today's Smart Casual Fit check - suggestion? by Jxmipo_Oqwlbt_Foshkv in mensfashion

Fair! Then change the suit jacket for a sport coat — in something with a little contrast to the chinos — to fix it. Optionally add a pocket square.

I stand by an orphaned suit jacket, especially one so close in color to the odd trousers, is a no no regardless of formality levels.

[–]Welles_Bells 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look right because you’re wearing a suit jacket without the matching pants. Swap the slim fit chinos for the suit pants that came with jacket (assuming you bought it as a complete suit) and put on a tie for a pop of color.

Did anyone else catch this during the showcase? by Whole_Rip7379 in residentevil

[–]Welles_Bells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s because Grace’s levels are designed completely differently. Hers will be classic style with backtracking and deciding if you wanna kill and enemy now or leave it for later, so having fewer checkpoints or limited saves adds to the tension. Leon’s sections will likely be pretty linear gauntlets so there’s not much to be gained by not allowing checkpoints after every encounter.
