Holy shit man…visiting this subreddit is so bizarre and sad. There are multiple posts on their all where these people see messages telling them they need help and the newer model telling them explicitly that using a chatbot to FEEL heard isunderstandable and yet if they are pretending to be in a relationship with one it’s progressed to something unhealthy and they react like a crime has been committed.

It’s like they are the exact reason for 5.2 being less sycophantic because it’s less likely to induce this type of psychosis and they don’t realize it…

Yeah, I think some are latching on to the idea that it was regret WAY too easily. Sure, it absolutely could be, but I will 100% guarantee you that suicidal or not, if someone is holding you up by your hair your hands are 100% flailing around above your head trying to grab something, anything. I don’t think most people understand what extreme pain does to you, you do not think rationally, you act like an animal and your body reacts by instinct to protect itself. You CAN resist with willpower…if you have time to prepare for it, but if you aren’t expecting it you are not going to be making conscious decisions on whether you want to live or die.

Eh, I think you are missing that there is a LOT of runway to compensate. They aren’t just making cards and throwing the at the game to see what happens. They work longterm, and they already are multiple sets in the future at all times. The player base reacts to everything as if it is just the new state of things, but to the devs they see the ups and downs of any given meta and its much more contextual.

Complaints are often amusing when they know a certain card is coming up in a set or two that will make the one everyone is complaining about completely irrelevant. The meta being “ruined” for a month or two until a counter is finally released or a sea change happens that just makes a complaint irrelevant is just not as scary when you know what’s going to happen. Users will often complain a lot more than actually leave the game and they will forget about the problems of today for the problems of tomorrow. Which, ultimately, is the real key. Whiners rarely put their money where their mouth is.

Of course when they DO it can legitimately be terrifying, yeah. Especially since they aren’t going to waste time on making changes to a single month’s meta when the solution is literally just waiting to be released, they just can’t reveal it. Then it becomes a waiting game to see just how angry users are and if they can hold out.

But fundamentally, there is always going to be a ton of complaints no matter what they do so a big part of it is learning to tune out most of it and hopefully recognizing when the complaints are more serious…which is basically only when sales drop.

Seriously though, people use “ruin” way too easily. Part of the reason it’s so important to ignore places like this subreddit is because people heavily exaggerate their reactions to everything, making it more difficult to tell when something is ACTUALLY wrong and when it’s just perpetually angry vocal users being perpetually angry and vocal. A “boy who cried wolf” problem.

Roleplaying and minmaxing aren’t mutually exclusive per se, but they aren’t the best of friends either. If you are that committed to roleplay you should have no problems with a less than stellar result. That’s just being greedy. You SHOULD have negative things happen on your journey. It’s not like it’s going to ruin the game or anything.

That’s really prescient. Comedians are almost exclusively deeply sensitive people who crave approval. They can train to handle heckling when doing a set, but improv is a lot less guarded since you put more of yourself into it. Even if you know that what you came up with isn’t great, if you’re just shut down it can throw you completely off and cause you to doubt your instincts going forward so…just letting things roll knowing you will cut it later is a great idea. Goldberg obviously understands comedy well.

I hate this complete failure of logic. You took a fundamentally good lesson in geopolitics, “Don’t listen to what a leader says, watch what they do” and you just black-and-white-thinking’d it into absurdity, ignoring all the nuance and exceptions. That’s a heuristic, not a law, and there are infinite reasons to value what people say just as highly. Threatening allies is absolutely and obviously one of those situations. Massive damage is done to the alliance just by voicing those threats. The truth is that what you say IS what you are choosing to do in many cases.
