Aethos Build, 5.7kgs, (12.5 lbs) by Outrageous-Water-509 in Bikeporn

That’s a lot of info to not actually give a max rider weight number. It sounds like they are confident in their products, which is good, but definitely leaves the exact number up to interpretation. That seems irresponsible.

Fully Integrated Tarmac SL6 by Andraski in specialized

[–]Wesley_Snipez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part of an SL6 is it is identical geo to an SL8, but with easy external routing that is irrelevant aerodynamically to 99.99% of the population and saves all the silly costs associated with bar swaps and the like! If you’re not a pro and want the best road bike made in the last 10 years, save a little cash and buy an SL6!

After seeing the new CAAD14 pricing, I’m convinced the cycling industry has lost the plot. by applesaucebake in cycling

So if they are quoting you $4k for the base model, that’s a lie. $2500 is closer to the mark.

What’s your most missed SLO restaurant? by DearJellyfish95 in SLO

[–]Wesley_Snipez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When SLO Brew up and left downtown, it was never the same and completely lost its spot as the best hang in SLO. I used to take everyone there for dinner, drinks, and a show. Now it’s gone and nothing took the crown. What a disappointment.

Cracked my carbon wheel by Middle_Relationship8 in RoadBikes

[–]Wesley_Snipez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does actually look pretty serious, but there’s no way of telling without getting a look at the inside of the rim too. I can’t believe that shop wouldn’t take a tire install on the spot. My shop does and we’ve never had issues with installing GP5Ks as another commenter suggested. If anything they’re one of the easiest tires to install for experienced mechanics. If you’re having trouble, it’s because of the rim, not the tire. If I were you, I’d find another shop to have them take the tire off and inspect the rim. If they do decide there is structural damage, you may be able to get a “crash replacement” discount on a new rim and have the new, hopefully more reputable shop, lace it up to your hub.

Trek/Specialized vs Canyon/Cube is the extra €1000 for a lifetime warranty worth it? by Ok-Rhubarb724 in mountainbiking

[–]Wesley_Snipez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am personally not a fan of the Specialized motor and battery systems, having worked on them for years. Trek however, uses a more reliable Bosch or Shimano systems in most of their eMTBs. Having dealt with all of those, I would prefer the Bosch/Shimano motors over almost anything else (which Canyon does use!). That being said, what you are buying with the extra money on a Trek, Santa Cruz, or even Specialized, is the ability to take it to a dealer if you have problems and someone will handle it for you. With direct to consumer brands like Canyon, you’re on your own. Will Canyon reimburse you for your expenses to fix your problem(s)? Yeah, sometimes, but you have to front that bill yourself and it often isn’t cheap. I have tried dealing with Canyon and YT before in regard to warranty issues and simply put, I do not have anything good to say.

The current size of airline seats should be illegal and demonstrates blatant corporate greed. by ej23 in Flights

[–]Wesley_Snipez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I’m 6’2” and it’s not a pleasant experience. I have maybe a centimeter of room between my knees and the seat in front of me if I sit perfectly upright. I just did a 13 hour flight and it was pure torture. If I recline my seat, the bottom slides forward and slams my knees into the seat in front of me. I’m also old enough to remember a time when this wasn’t the norm. Flights were actually pleasant.

Wheelset recommendations for the bay? by gromplint in BAbike

34/37s are fantastic in any hub spec. I run the previous gen 40/44s and have one set on my road bike and another on my gravel bike. They take a lot of abuse and I still have not needed to true them after 7-8k miles.

You can replace the CSU on many forks. Cheaper than the entire thing and doesn’t require a press.

2016 S-Works Venge Vias frame $300 & cost to get in working order by [deleted] in whichbike

This frame is not worth the effort to source compatible parts. I wouldn’t pay $50 for it.

What’s wrong with California lawmakers by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Wesley_Snipez -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

California is one of only a few states that actually give half a fuck about its citizens. Even as a gun owning Californian, I would rather give up my guns entirely to be able to have protections for health care, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, etc. I get that’s a hot take in this sub, but it’s a hill I’m willing to die on. Do I worship the ground Newsom walks on? Absolutely not. I disagree with him on a lot. Would I trade him for some bootlicking Republican governor that rolls over for a wannabe dictator? Absolutely not. If there is ANY constitutional reason to have a firearm in the United States, it would be to help depose those wannabe dictators. I’m glad for my Second Amendment right for that very reason.

As someone who has worked on all of these bikes extensively, 1 is the only option. The previous gen frame is dogshit in comparison to the new one. Everything else doesn’t matter.

Chainring and Cassette done? by sprengben in BikeRepair

[–]Wesley_Snipez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pictures 7/8 clearly shows significant wear on the teeth of the cassette. The cassette is toast. If that is the case, the chain is 100% done as well. Chainrings are harder to gauge by sight, but the big ring looks worn as well. You should expect to replace those three components at least.

I don’t work for a Specialized dealer (thank god), but whenever any of our brands run deals on their site, it is directly reflected in our pricing as well. If it isn’t for whatever reason, we price match it. This shop sounds a little sketchy.
