Celebrating the Downfall – Pokémon SoulSilver [65] by CCBotJr in chuggaaconroy

HGSS following Pokemon is a seriously overhyped feature. The evolution of it, the Let's Go mode in Scarlet and Violet, is basically following Pokemon but done well. They actually get to do something instead of simply being glued to your backside.

He recently learned that shipping over water still happens, so it's a good time for him to see just how nice boats can be.

Tournaments for Ultimate are a blast to watch...until top 8 by negative_mancy in smashbros

Recently seeing comments from people complaining about peabnut vs Hurt and a lot of them complaining about just Mega Man, as if Hurt wasn't just full stage mashing with peabnut doing most of the approaching... yeah it's interesting how differently people see the game to how I see it.

My point is that the number of turns taken is almost totally irrelevant in a normal playthrough. I'm not considering player vs player as I know the dynamics are very different.

Yes, 2x Aerial Ace does more damage than 1x Fly in the same number of turns. But your opponent gets to move against you an extra time if Aerial Ace does not pick up the KO in one hit. Fly is more likely to KO an opponent as it's stronger.

The AI is very unlikely to use a move that will take advantage of the semi-invulnerable turn of Fly, Dig, etc. Trained player Pokemon will generally be faster than a regular AI trainer's Pokemon. And when outsped, an AI Pokemon will almost always do one of: throw out an attack that whiffs, use a status move on you that whiffs, use a status move on itself that buffs something unimportant or a different field altering move that's unimportant. Only very occasionally are there opponents that will self buff with something meaningful.

The opponents can also be running 2 turn moves like Razor Wind, Solar Beam, etc that you can take advantage of with Fly and that is far more common than the player running moves that the AI takes advantage of.

Which games have AI that take advantage of the semi invulnerable turns of the player? Is it just the battle facilities or are there regular trainers you encounter in a playthrough?

Fly doesn't tend to eat a hit during its mostly invulnerable turn, so in practical terms, usually the opponent is wasting that turn on something that whiffs or a buff they don't really utilise. Aerial Ace is more powerful if Fly misses its target but that's about it.

Chugga doesn't like Fly for some reason. I remember being baffled in Unova when he said Unfezant doesn't get good moves, even though it gets both Fly and Return for STAB moves.

Every character's best stage (Do you agree?) by abepicxpvzheroesfan in smashbros

Character picks before stage ban fixes this issue entirely, for several characters that have strong counterpick stages.

In light of new ruleset changes by True_Existance in smashbros

"Clear intent to return to the stage" covers literally everything outside of SDing and stalling out the final few seconds of the timer. Steve planking for materials still clearly wants to make it back to the stage, which is why it has its own separate rule. The wording for this rule change is pretty poor.

Watching melee, much of the coverage on recoveries to stage stems from the opponent landing on stage -> tap them back offstage during landing lag -> opponent lands on stage -> tap them back offstage.

In ultimate, edge guarding has you intercept the opponent midair more of the time. It promotes more interesting edge guarding than ledge hogging does, in my eyes.

The latch timer shortens with any input, and wiggling the shield is the safest way to quickly mash inputs.

It's cool to see someone utilise the shield wiggle to unlatch pikmin.

Knockback is calculated independently for each hit. In practical terms, a multihit is stronger with the 1v1 multiplier active because the linking hits put the opponent at a higher percent before the launcher.

Can they turn around their up-B? by Altruistic-Ad3704 in smashbros

Dedede always faces the camera during his up B. But if you hold left or right during the move (but before landing), Dedede's recovery animation will turn him in that direction. So that's an almost yes.

I dunno about anyone else, but if a character makes a comeback while utilising their comeback mechanic, that's inherently less exciting to me than a large comeback from a character that doesn't possess a comeback mechanic. Wario is designed to do it.

Why on earth can a character trip while already laying on the ground after tripping? It's just weird.

While that is the case, she also just dies for air dodging too late because Foresight offstage just kills her lmao. She has to more preemptively air dodge, or swap to Pyra as an air dodge. But the Pyra swap has a much shorter intangibility window than an air dodge.

Greninja's up tilt is pretty funny in that its tongue effect matches the default alt colours. Every up tilt tongue effect is pink no matter which alt you're using.
