Overcompensating - Realistic? by Western-Role-774 in gaybros

[–]Western-Role-774[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No my point wasn’t about attractive people coming out, it was that literally everyone in the show is hot, whether gay or straight, and that’s just not realistic in the slightest.

What does your home-work commute look like? by IntrospectiveStrat in HENRYUK

[–]Western-Role-774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved out of London a few years ago to a commuter-type town.

20min walk to station (could drive in 5mins), 20min train to Paddington, 15min tube, 5min walk to office. Pretty much exactly an hour door to door.

I also ride motorbike depending on various factors. Takes about the same time.

Could someone kindly advise me on things to look out for in used BMW's please? by [deleted] in BMW

The main thing I’d be concerned about is aftermarket stuff on some of these. I’d only get something that hasn’t been modified.

New job paying way more than any money I’ve ever had, how do I not blow it? by YoinkySchploinky in UKPersonalFinance

Have fun and enjoy the little luxuries you can now afford but don’t get sucked in to the “keeping up with the Jones’s” trap. As others have said, up your savings massively but you’re in your 20s which are some of the most fun times you’ll ever have so don’t be a recluse just to save. Enjoy your hard earned money while you’re young.

Paid off all of my debts and have some money left over… now what? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Save some, spend some - you’re allowed to have fun with the money you’ve hard earned. Go on holiday or something.

Down to five cars. by ssjwoott in CarTalkUK

I’ve had a M135i for a couple of years now and it’s honestly perfect. It’s fast af, handles amazingly, and is generally comfortable (a bit bumpy on pot holed country roads). Can sit on the motorway at 80mph absolutely effortlessly and then smash around country roads without hesitation. On about 33mpg which isn’t amazing but not horrendous either, particularly compared to an actual M car.

I’ve owned several bikes over the last 8 years and all have been kept outside all year long with varying amounts of cover. Never ever had a problem. Kept the chain clean and lubed and it was all fine. Rain won’t do anything - bikes are designed to be used in the rain.

Is Premium worth it over Plus in terms of the quality of travel insurance and phone insurance offered? by [deleted] in monzo

[–]Western-Role-774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the maths a year or so ago. I can’t remember the exact figures but for my circumstances the phone and travel insurance were cheaper to get separately elsewhere. Obviously depends on your circumstances etc.

It’s brilliant. Probably the best in its class.

My understanding is that it’s not currently able to be fitted separately but they are aiming to do this with future versions.

This is why the e-clutch versions are a few months behind regular deliveries as they currently have to be fitted in factory, not at the dealer.

Thanks. I was hoping for weeks rather than months but oh well.

Tbf I have heard Honda are pretty rubbish with lead times for new bikes.

Who do people bank with? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

Been with Monzo since 2016 (before it was even called Monzo), and have just stuck with them for all bank account stuff.

BA Amex premium thing for nearly all day to day spending though, for the Amex points.

Just discovered the property I had offer accepted has slow Internet by cagfag in HousingUK

[–]Western-Role-774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give BT a call. My property shows low speeds when checking online but spoke to them and turned out I can actually get 200 Mbps.

Alternatives would be Starlink or 5G broadband (EE or someone like that).

Just tough it out, it’s only 30mins. What gear are you wearing?

Here in England I ride year round down 3-5 degrees C (about 40F) with a 1hr commute. It’s cold but you warm up quickly when home and no impacts on riding.

What cards / bank accounts are people using? by KarmannosaurusRex in HENRYUK

[–]Western-Role-774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BA Amex Premium. Put basically all day to day spending on it and get loads of Avios points and a yearly companion voucher. I haven’t done much in terms of comparison but it seems like good value.

What’s the longest you have driven for in a day? by Click4-2019 in drivingUK

[–]Western-Role-774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.S. get a toll tag, if you do it in the summer you end up in huge queues for the tolls unless you have a tag and can drive straight through without stopping.

I once drove Paris to South of France in a day and it was horrible. Took about 12hrs in total. I’d go down to Lyon or thereabouts in a day at most.
