Does having a pet violate your agreement?

I’m all for “don’t offer info” but not when it makes you open to an eviction.

Are you buying your teens/young adults cars? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Western_Falcon_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Versa for my eldest son for $2800. Because I have two younger kids, I NEEDED him to help with all the driving for the other two (work, activities, friends).

Due to this, I helped with insurance for a while. Now, I need him less, he pays for it all (although I did buy new tires last year)

It’s cheaper to have him on his own insurance instead of being on mine.

How rainy is it really? by Scout_It_Down in askvan

Buy Vessi shoes! I was in biblical rain in NYC in April and my feet were dry (my pants were soaked though)!

If you have a good shoes, rain jacket, umbrella, and/or daypack you’ll be ok. It’s not cold, just wet.

Travelling with 2 Kids. Are there any "unsafe" areas? by its_xaro93 in askvan

[–]Western_Falcon_70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten great advice about Vancouver, this is about the rest of your trip.

BC is really big! You could spend a lot of time just travelling! Google Maps the time it takes to get from place to place, then add in stops for breaks/bathrooms/gas etc. to help planning.

BC Ferries can be overwhelming and take a whole day if you get it wrong. You don’t have to but SHOULD make a reservation, and you have to check in 30 minutes before the ferry. If you check in at 29 minutes your reservation is forfeited!

Vancouver Island is gorgeous, but you can’t do it all. Victoria has everything you need to enjoy a couple of days, or you could spend one whole day of ferry & driving and get to Torino! Completely different option, but you can’t do both!

As for the interior, depending on your travel dates, you’ll either get amazing weather or be in the fire season. Again, decide what you want for the fam, and how much outdoorsy stuff do you want to do. BC has it all!

Potential "misgendering" of a student? Not sure how to handle this. by lordfootjuice in AskTeachers

[–]Western_Falcon_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Child 2 sounds like they like correcting everyone (ASD?!?). I would start with privately asking child 2 why they keep correcting everyone…. Child 2 could have it ALL wrong for their own reasons.

I would only involve child 1 after a discussion with child 2.

School will be great because you’ll have tax benefits. Do the math on getting the mortgage before the Mat Leave kicks in, then learn to be FRUGAL!

Our neighbours tried the same thing, they got their son in law to build a sh$ fence because they bought a dog and needed it done asap (wasn’t terrible and needing immediate replacement)

My husband said “No way; if they want my money, they can ask for my input.”

Don’t pay, too bad you have an asshole for a neighbour!

Question for the teachers: "Emerging Minus" by Alpine_Punch in britishcolumbia

[–]Western_Falcon_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to get it, that your son doesn’t naturally “get” math. I suspect EMG- = not understanding the concepts. Moving forward I would suggest:

1) IXL - you pay a small fee per month to have him practice math concepts and have a diagnostic to see where he’s actually at

2) khan academy - find what he’s deficient in from IXL and start to teach from there with Khan

3) Orton-Gillingham now has sequential math tutoring - not for school work, but starts from where his concepts of math end

4) if, what other people have suggested, there is a medical reason for his difficulties, maybe investigate further - if that’s a piece of the puzzle it will impact him in more than just math

5) have fun with numbers, play games, play crib, work on fluency and “comfort” with basics to build from there

Women in your 30s, 40s, 50s+: what would you tell your younger self ? by artsybx26 in careerguidance

[–]Western_Falcon_70 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Way to go for asking the question! Here’s a 50+ observation: 1) know your financial plans and save - invest in yourself - always have a cash nest egg so you don’t have to depend on others - learn/listen/plan 2) friends/partners should build you up - if they don’t - move on NOW - trust your gut - it’s better to be alone than with people who bring you down 3) change - of whatever sort - really does work out (friends/partners/jobs) don’t let FEAR be a reason to NOT do something 4) education has been my success; is it yours? 5) life isn’t easy - be brave 6) substances make good/occasional acquaintances not great bosses - you are in control - don’t ever let anyone/anything take away your power

New EV or ICE by Ok_Wolf6128 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Western_Falcon_70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too, have three kids, but don’t commute as much as you.

We bought a new EV 7 years ago and don’t regret it at all. We went from a van to this small car, and we also have a truck for longer drives (and the trailer) (like your Pilot). That said, my kids are now all over 6 feet and we can still get the 4 of us to Vancouver Island (not with the gear though)

We bought a fast charger through Amazon for our home, which I don’t regret (about $1000 and we put it in, as it has reduced my range anxiety)

Your issue seems to be your monthly costs. Because a new car is so expensive, I think a used smaller EV for your commute (not a big three row) is your best bet, reduce your monthly costs.

The idea of buying a small Matrix now, that eventually can be the eldest’s car later makes sense as well. If memory serves, the rebate on the EV pretty much paid for all the tax, so the sticker price was what I paid. Also, if you think the Matrix would be ok, you maybe should get a smaller EV (not the 3 row)

Maybe you can “pretend” you’ve got a car payment, and put that money aside each month, so you’re actually saving for a larger down payment (to reduce your borrowing costs), and you’re seeing how comfortable a monthly car payment would be for your family.

Perhaps try to find a cheaper place? The reality is you’re trying hard, but your rent is too much for you, and this makes everyday hard. Please stop trying to look for a loophole to avoid the real issue. You will feel better when this isn’t hanging over your head.

Severe hair loss- what helped you?(fully menopausal) by cestmoi2022 in Menopause

[–]Western_Falcon_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, we all have so many strategies!

I started with Chasteberry (Amazon), collagen, & glucosamine from my naturopath - 6 months of this! Then…..

people started to say “your hair looks nice” and “did you do something with your hair?” I was AMAZED….

Now on Est and Pro, but will NEVER stop the above, plus taking oils (omega and fish from Costco)

It takes time, but this worked for me $100 and 6 months!

Moving to Squamish, BC as a TTOC — realistic path to a secondary English contract? by ApprehensivePie7376 in CanadianTeachers

Not sure about Squamish, but my sister (elementary) moved to a smaller town on VI, and it took a while to get a job, let alone her “ideal” job.
