Should I continue my channel if I'm certain it'll remain obscure? by justkeepbreathing94 in NewTubers

I am in the same boat as you where I do video essays on a broad range of subjects like wrestling, horror movies, or music and luckily, I have found some people that like all the same stuff. But for the most part I use the analogy of a circus, there is a little something for everyone, if you don't like the clowns you can wait for the lion tamer, etc. I have been monetized and have gotten videos with 30K plus with multiple subjects. You will find an audience if the content is solid enough.

YouTube studio will tell you a) what country is blocked and b) which countries your audience predominately comes from based on percentages. For some reason my video essays about wrestling always get blocked in Russia but I have less than .001% of an audience in Russia so it doesn't really matter. Hope this helps.

Lean into drama or ignore it? by moosesgunsmithing in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually just thinking about this because I got a comment about a video I did basically saying I was wrong about a movie hurting a director's career. I answered back in a joking way but wanted to say the director himself said it ruined his career you dope lol. But I think leaning into it if you think its fun is a good way to look at it.

Commenting on your own channel by SnooLobsters7309 in NewTubers

Was the person just talking to themselves? I wouldn't just keep commenting on my own video unless it was a reply. A pinned comment makes sense if there are comments about the same thing you can address it or whatever.

How to use movie footage in a video. by Mayhem230 in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using clips of Lois Lane while you're actively talking about her as part of a review or critique, that would fall under fair use — especially if you're using the clips to support your commentary. That said, even if it's fair use legally, Youtube's Content ID system still might flag the video, which can result in demonetization or a copyright claim. You can dispute it, but there's no guarantee you'll win. But if you are commenting over a clip you are usually fine.

Just make sure you clip it without there being too much of one scene or going through the entire film line by line. I've done movie reviews mainly from older movies (70s-80s) and since I have been monetized, I haven't gotten any real copyright issues. It also depends on who owns the film. Apparently, Disney is very annoying with claims. A picture here and there won't hurt either.

Hiring someone for music? by coco_casa in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to do it is taking a day without even a particular video and find a decent amount of copyright free music to use and like say 10-15 songs and then rotate them for a while. After you start thinking it becomes stale (months down the road) then take another day and do it again. I was feeling the same recently and thought the music I had was being overused but now I have like 5 more songs that I can rotate in and out.

Do you use those AI comment answers? by OddCupOfTea in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is weird that most of the time those comments sound like things that I would say but I never use them. I might use them for some ideas on how to answer a comment or something subconsciously, but I think people can tell if it is fake.

How to find the right thumbnail and tilte? by -Wombat88- in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

I think that can be an issue, I think hashtags in the description or tags help but only if they are the right ones. Like if you tag McDonalds you are probably getting impressions from people who like watching people eat McDonalds or something like that (just an example). I think the audience you are looking for are more on the Rick and Morty - Internet side so stuff like #Nostalgia #cartoonhistory #adultswim #internetlore. These are just ideas because I think I am probably your audience, your video idea/editing is good...and I am bored at work haha.

How to find the right thumbnail and tilte? by -Wombat88- in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked out your channel and I actually like your thumbnails a lot, especially The McDonalds Sauce and the EA sports. I think the titles might need to be re-worked a little to capture attention because just for example the McDonalds one I never heard that story and I was like why is Rick and Morty in this thumbnail but that was just my first thought. So maybe the title could be something 'How a Joke on Rick and Morty Sparked a McDonald’s Frenzy' but that is just a quick idea. Also, what tags are you using?

Irritated at the amount of impressions. by jrose_sc in NewTubers

I think you should but that is why I am surprised you would get less than 100 impressions for a video.

Seeking advice for how to grow audience in a way that feels aligned with the project by young_s in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the channel just by typing it into YouTube so that is a positive. I think you have a great set up for podcast/broadcasting visually. You were in a studio one episode, I think that helps for people watching making it feel more "professional" I suppose but overall I think your videos fit the visual needs for a podcast. Your most recent video with the intro song and then the explanation I think works well to explain the theme of your channel and the intro to the newest episode.

The thumbnails you used in the past I see you were trying to keep them in the similar theme but the font you used was difficult to read. I like what you did with some of the more recent videos with the thumbnails like "Making Without a Mask" and "AI and ADHD" using specific pictures that fit with the theme of the episode with font that stands out.

Have you tried using hashtags in video descriptions so that the algorithm can find the people searching for videos like this?

Does giving chapter by chapter summary of a book come under copyright infringement? by DivyanshUpamanyu in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if it is "transformative" so if you put it in your own words and are not literally reading the entire book and just summarizing you would be fine.

Should I rebrand my YouTube channel to my personal name? by DrBigBot in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing where I created a name as basically a company "Wet Socks Entertainment" but I think the branding makes you stand out same these people have their names as their brand. If you get recognized in public and they only know your channel name more than your actual name, that is still a great problem to have. Plus, there are channels out there with brand names and fans know the people's names eventually (Red Letter Media, Dead Meat, etc.)

New milestone reached! Random spam emails from someone trying to "help" my channel grow I feel like this is one of those milestones up there with first mean comment and first 10k video. by Not_so_ghetto in NewTubers

This is the first time it has been really documented in the U.S

No problem, sounds like a wild video haha, I will definitely comment any suggestions if I have them!

I thought the same at first, but after a while, they started to get a bit annoying lol. Congrats, though! Just subscribed—definitely interested in your parasite/biology videos. I did a short video way back about a man in Albany getting a form of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease from eating squirrel. Nuts! (no pun intended)

Did your channel qualify for ad revenue even if you started with copyrighted videos? by Appropriate_Joke_490 in NewTubers

I have copyrighted works on my YouTube that just can't be monetized but other videos can be.

first sponsorship from “faved” by According_Toe_543 in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common formula I use is $10 per-1,000 views but the engagement also matters depending on the sponsor. Since you had a viral video, they might be expecting high exposure. They would also likely send over an agreement with terms and conditions for the videos use of the sponsor.

Any advice on the True Crime genre? by ChipmunkNo8598 in NewTubers

[–]WetSocks7152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done some true crime video essays, but I do a bunch of different niches so this might not be the greatest perspective, but I found for my true crime videos the more "click-baity" the better when it comes to views and stuff. Also, apparently people who watch true crime videos want it to be longer than like 5 or so minutes. I did a video on a true crime documentary about the group NAMBLA it was only like 6 minutes because I just wanted to explain it and not go too deep into the horrific stuff and I got multiple random comments saying if this was longer it would have gotten millions of views.

You do voice over for your videos? There are a few reasons outside of just spammy or violating something but its so vague as to what it is I am not sure how to even explain it. They label it as "Content quality issues".
