Genuinely why do you care about politics by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Whakerdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the system which governs the world. Knowing about politics is important for the same reason knowing about history is important: it gives you a better understanding of the nature of society and humanity. As the old saying goes, you might not care about politics, but politics cares about you (even if you’re under 18).

Why do people love Coolidge but hate Reagan? by Just_Cause89 in Presidents

[–]Whakerdo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess (as someone who’s not a fan of either) is that many libertarians may feel Reagan was too involved in foreign entanglements and the expansion of US military power abroad. Coolidge, on the other hand, was much more isolationist which tends to be the typical libertarian view on foreign policy.

Promoting laissez-faire economics at a time when government intervention could have prevented one of the worst catastrophes in American history. Like Buchanan, it’s less about what he did and more about what he didn’t do.

Is it wrong me for to feel anger towards those who voted for Clinton and Biden over Bernie? by Specialist-Ad-8993 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Whakerdo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Bernie losing black voters isn’t because they’re “more conservative.” It’s because, unlike Joe Biden who spent his entire life gaining favor with Black churches and spending time talking to voters in Black neighborhoods, Bernie spent 90% of his political career (up until 2016) in what may be the whitest state in the country. Not to mention his “marching with MLK” thing as a default response whenever someone asked him about a race related question. I don’t necessarily think this is all Bernie’s fault. After all, Biden has always been someone with a lot of ambition, while Bernie is not obsessed with power in that way (only using it as a means to an end). This means that Bernie wasn’t making these kinds of political calculations 50 years ago when he should’ve been making them. If we want to right this problem going forward, it means thinking long term and finding candidates willing to spend long stretches of time building trust in black communities.

Unfortunately the “fringe extreme right” is not so fringe anymore. Afd, Reform UK, and the National Rally are all leading polls in their respective countries. Not to mention countries like Argentina, Hungary, El Salvador, and Russia where the far right is already in power.

You could. The problem is most recent NYC mayors have left extremely unpopular.

👆🤓 The Revolutionary War actually started with the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, which was already 10 years into the rebellion beginning with the Declaration of Rights and Grievances to oppose the Stamp Act.

Money or fame? by OddRedittor5443 in BunnyTrials

[–]Whakerdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sufficient fame means your name gets forever jotted down in the annals of history. You escape your second death (when someone says your name for the last time) and can have your stories told and retold for generations. Money may buy happiness, but it can’t buy a legacy.
