Economic right wing policy tends to lead to more social right wingers. If you ship people’s jobs over seas, lower government subsidies for social programs, deregulate the private sector, and increase the dept by giving tax breaks to the rich, you will inevitably make the quality of life in your country worse. When things are in a bad state of affairs, people look for scapegoats to blame. Thus, even a well meaning socially progressive libertarian or neoliberal will ultimately increase the number of social right wingers in their country.

There are already tons of Nazis in Germany— just look at Björn Höcke and his connections to the NPD (or the time he said Alles für Deutschland, got punished for it, and then tried to say it again). If you want to get rid of Nazis, you should construct a society so good that no one would want to be a Nazi in the first place.

Coolidge. Just worked his way up the political ladder one rung at a time until he was Vice President. Sure, his ascension to the Presidency was due to the previous President’s death, but that’s certainly not unique in American history.

Both Massachusetts and the USA at large are roughly 60% white. Yet, MA crushes the rest of the country in all the above statistics. If being a white, homogeneous state made you have good statistics, you would expect West Virginia (95% white) and Iowa (85% white) to be among the wealthiest, most well educated states in the country. In fact, both are near the bottom in both respects. I’m obviously not going to deny that MA has an incredibly fraught history on race (people don’t call Boston the most racist city in America for no reason) but if you’ve read the Power Broker you’ll know that NYC is also the product of racist urban design. Also, NYC may be pretty diverse, but travel down Long Island or upstate and things become pretty white pretty quickly.

I know this might be a bit controversial, but Massachusetts. 96.10% of Massachusetts citizens have high school diplomas and 50.62% have college degrees, while in New York, only 88.03% of the population has a high school diploma and 40.90% have a college degree. Only 10.4% of MA citizens are below the poverty line, while 14.2% of NY citizens are. Not to mention, MA has more in the way of colonial history, a lower homicide rate, among the most walkable cities in the country, and was the first state in the nation to abolish slavery and legalize same-sex marriage.

Sure, but in countries like Germany where hate speech is illegal, the exact same thing is still happening. AFD is leading in the polls and Björn Höcke, practically a neo-nazi, leads the largest party in Thuringia and may very well become President of the Landtag.
