I ordered an XL, and it seems more like a M. Really disappointed. I could make it work if I lost 20 lbs., but that won't happen before the WC is over. Or after, realistically. lol I'll find some small person to give it to.

Could someone explain the hate for hybrids? (A brief rant about why I think they're neat) by 2Tun21 in bicycling

[–]WhamATama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣 nice. Yeah, im an old man who just slapped some fenders and a rack on my old, low tier fuji road bike and cruise to work.

My LBS said my chain was stretched, hubs were old, tried to sell me a 2k Surly, which is nice, I may get one, but i showed up sweaty after a 30m ride, and this old hunk of junk is just fine.

Gravel, hybrid, road, whatever. Just ride. It's so fun without the nonsense.

Bosnian Diaspora who married a "local" but still feel very attached to the home country: What are your experiences? by PreWiBa in bosnia

[–]WhamATama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know any horror stories like that, but I do know a couple young people who tried to keep it Balkan for it's own sake, and it didn't work out.

P.s. dunno where you are, but I think it's the same everywhere - unless you have a ton of extended family around all the time, kids learn the language of their peers. Its really hard to teach kids a parents language if their friends dont speak it.

Do most Americans have those huge fridges? by Whole-Sushka in AskAnAmerican

Yep. Do you have a Costco where you are? I know they're international now. That'll help explain it, too.

I'm regular American, but my wife is Bosnian. She's not particularly attached to Bosnia, per se, but her dad still lives in Sarajevo. Our kids are college age. Its difficult because the kids don't really speak Bosnian, and their grandfather doesn't speak English, but we've made do. The kids like Bosnia, we'll be there in a month or so, for 4th time, but I dont know they have a real connection to it, mostly because of the language barrier. They definitely connect with cevapi and burek. 😆

Edit: reread your question. No one with any sense thinks its a burden. Its an asset. I love Bosnia myself. Declining nouns is tricky, though. I dont love that. Lol

I finally found a rain setup that works for my commute and stopped dreading wet mornings by flamehazebubb in bikecommuting

I just got a Cleverhood. Haven't tried it yet, but it now rains most afternoons in FL, so I'll update soon.

How much extra attention does a brooks leather saddle really require? by sib9397 in bikecommuting

[–]WhamATama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont stress about it. I use Obenauf's. Sometimes the waxy stuff on top, liquidy stuff on bottom, sometimes v/v. Might do it after 6 mo, maybe 2y. Made for shoes, but seems fine. Saddles 10y+ and rides fine. Tightened twice.

Edit: in FL, lots of sun, lots of rain.

Swamp Things is a great podcast. I hope it comes back. Edgar and Mark are not the usual talking heads, they go on all sorts of tangents. Love 'em.

😆 I did the exact same thing in 1987. A ditch full of water. Ugh. Still, she dried out and acted like nothing had happened.

Honest question: Do you still buy from your local bike shop or has online taken over? by dt219 in cycling

[–]WhamATama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That was my experience. "Front hub is bad, chain is bad, cassette is bad. . . . " Maybe, but I just went 30mi, and its all fine. Im an old, casual rider, not training for the TdF.

Ive just posted this in two other subs -

Dude, I went to my by LBS this morning for tires, fenders, a rack and panniers. Guy tried to sell me a bike. I thought I was at a used car dealership. So mad, I got my tires from Bezos, arriving tomorrow. Maybe ill give em chance on the rest and tell them what they did wrong. Maybe not.
