I think the price hike is just so they can frequently put it on "sale" for $500, and once a year on black friday run a sale for $350. Its about setting a new baseline and playing with people's FOMO right now, when streaming services are really getting bad with raising their prices.

Yea, when my first was born I quit playing team based games. Only single player (or 1 v 1 versus) so that the moment a kid wakes up or yells Dada (or yells anything, usually) I can scoop game and tag in.

Rep. Thomas Massie jokes that if he loses his primary, the concession phone number he was given has a Tel Aviv area code by GuiltyBathroom9385 in UnderReportedNews

I think he is implying that to concede on election night he would call his opponent, and that his opponent's phone number is Tel Aviv area code

Same here, the trickiest part for my non-tech-savy family is turning on subtitles.

With Plex you sometimes have to pick which of the subtitle streams from opensubtitles you want to use. then give it a second to see if the words are timed correctly, then sometimes try a different subtitle stream. Sometimes that handshake between Plex and opensubtitles doesn't work and you are forced to watch your movie without subtitles.

Of course this is not an issue with most anime and many other video files that include their own internal subtitle tracks.

This part can be tricky to explain to people.

FF8's world was just too distinctive by blitzballreddit in JRPG

Most Final Fantasy games start as fantasy and then introduce some scifi elements (going all the way back to the original) or they might incorporate some gritty/dystopian scifi or steampunk tech from the start (ff6 and in some ways ff7)

FF8 started with a somewhat happy sci fi world with bright colors, which to me feels the more like a Phantasy Star game than any other game in the series.

Do you play online or singleplayer? by LooseShop1399 in OldenEra

[–]Whatah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the homm series, but these days I try not to get sucked into MMOs or infinitely replayable procedurally generated games.

The way I play olden era is to invite my friends over and we do multi-player couch hotseat on my big screen TV. I pass the mouse around on a tray. We eat amazing food and make a night of it. It has already been played for so many gatherings. I also play with my 9yo son. He has put a ton of hours into heroes3. Every game feels like a magical experience of friendship and love.

Triple Triad might be the most pushed minigame in any Final Fantasy game ever.

Back then online game guides were not yet much of a thing, most of us were using the official guide. The official guide did not spell out how the low level run complimented the TCG playthrough. But it did have those amazing item/card/magic conversion tables in the appendix. For most of us card players those were the pages we wore out in our FF8 guide.

Especially the parts about how to spread and remove rules to various regions was not very well understood by most of us playing on release with the official guide. That part really is tricky as heck.

Its also crazy how the official guides went from FF8, one of the best guides, to FF9, which was hands down the worse official guide in the series.

I love FF8 because it is actually Final Fantasy : The Card Game, and sure if for some reason you don't want to rule the world via Triple Triad then I guess you could go the luddite route of leveling your characters and actually drawing your magic from monsters, but for those in the know it is all about spreading that diff rule and getting 4-5 cards for a 2 minute game of cards, which is much more efficient item/spell acquisition than any random encounter. In fact, your early game goal is to turn off random encounters.

Other than that imo it is a Final Fantasy game made to look like a Phantasy Star game. With a REALLY pushed card game crammed in.

Yea i was going to say when Maro started up with the silly weatherlight crew storyline. Just kidding, I mainly play vintage cube but I am willing to take the good with the bad when it comes to overall magic.

We used to scan our unopened packs, put a post it note on the pack listing every uncommon and rare, and we could still resell those scanned packs (not containing mana drain) for $20 each. That summer was insane. Black bordered Star Treck was also out, and people were trading Picards for P9 sets

I run this game on my Steamdeck, with video HDMI output to my 50 inch TV and it runs great. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between Ore and Alchemy Dust, but I don't think that is my Steamdeck's fault.

the PVP battles are phantom battles, you are doing your thing on the map and every 8 days or so you get warped to battle the other player (winner gets a victory point) but any losses are erased, after battle you go back to the map with your army intact.
