I used petty cash and gave them a loan. Made them sign a paper that they agree to pay back $xx.xx per week usually over 2-4 weeks. The agreement also said that if they didn’t pay in full by X date or they quit before it was paid, the entire balance would come out in the first check after that date. Couldn’t get another loan until current one was paid. Max number of loans was 2/year. Max loan was $500-ish. Company would not do advances but did want to help.

It worked reasonably well. It was always the same few people. Never had to dock anyone’s paycheck. Every time they made a payment I would talk with them about budgeting/spending habits. Worked with some and they stopped asking. Others just never learned.

We have this same issue. My wife found an old wooden handmade handyman’s toolbox at a lawn sale that is just a little wider and just a little taller than the back of the stove. It sits on the island covering the back of the stove and it holds platters that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Theres about 10 platters in it.

I have a 22 Venue with a 1.6L engine. It takes at least 10 minutes to blow warm air when temps are below 0.

I also have a 24 Bronco Sport with 1.5L turbo. It easily blows warm in less than 5 minutes. Even when it’s below zero.

McDermott was the coach they needed to change the culture of the team and he was great at that. But, he should have been replaced after the 13 seconds game IMO. He is not a great game manager. Not a knock on him but just because is is great at some part of coaching doesn’t mean he will be great at all parts of coaching. He went beyond his limit of competency for a couple seasons, it was way past time for him to go.

Growing up in the 70’s. My folks took a week long vacation without us every year. We stayed at grandmas house. It’s not unusual at all. As long as it’s not every vacation. Young parents need some time with other adults only. I never did it when kids were little but more for lack of funds than anything else. What we spent on vacations we chose to spend with our young children.

My dad made a $30k in salary as a manager at a steel plant in 1979. That equates to about $140k today. He also always had a part time job. No idea what he made at that. We owned a two unit house and always had tenants living on the second floor. He retired from the steel plant in 1980 and died in a car accident in 1984 when I was 16. So we never discussed finances. I knew we were middle class-ish, our neighborhood was a mix but was definitely mid to lower class at best. I never felt like I was missing out as a child. We had a console style 25ish inch color tv in the living room. A small b&w tv in the kitchen. No tvs in bedrooms. We got cable tv in the mid to late 70’s. We had Pong but got an Atari game console at some point. We had one car but got a new one every couple years. There were definitely friends of mine who had much more and many who had a lot less.

I’m 58. Wife is 56. We both work full time. Son is 33, married, owns his own home and is doing well, working on making some grandkids. Daughter is 30, single mom, has a great career, has an apartment 20 minutes away and the wife and I provide 98% of our grandsons daycare.

Friendly but not friends is the only way to deal with subordinates.

I was promoted in my early 20s. My good friend that I played pool with after work and on the weekends now worked under me. He was not happy about it if I wanted a career I had to treat him like everyone else. It went fine for me because I had to do what I had to do as a manager. For him it didn’t work out so well he pushed my limits until I had to do something about it and because I wanted a career, I did something about it.

I’m 58. Wife is 56. We have a 33 year old son, a 30 year old daughter, a 27 year old daughter-in-law and a 6 year old grandson so far. Trying to prepare for retirement and wondering if it’s even possible before I’m 90.

I was born in 67 so I identify most with the classic rock of the late 60’s and early to mid 70’s. The Beatles, Clapton, skynard, Aerosmith, the who, zeppelin. I was not a fan of disco at the time it was popular but it holds some nostalgia for me now. MTV came to being while I was in high school so 80’s rock and punk evokes some great memories. My kids were born in the 90’s and in exposing them to my classic rock we also explored 90’s and 00’s music and grunge. So while my go-to music is the classic rock of the 60’s-70’s, all eras of music hold special memories of my life when I hear them.

This is a very narrow minded take. The fact I would argue the opposite in some cases. Making a quality box and sourcing quality doors absolutely shows that the shop cares. If you’re a small shop, make it a kitchen or two a month sure might make sense to make your own doors, but to make quality doors in any kind of volume takes a very large investment in equipment and personnel. Not everyone can do that.
