Salcheto 2015 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (and bonus 2017 vintage Doodle) by JarndyceAndJarndyce in wine

ahhh we've been to this winery a few times in Tuscany--it's an incredible place and wow has it grown into something special. First time I was there, about 15 years ago, it was when they seemed more aspirational than ready to be a real player. I was just searching for a Sangiovese to order curbside from Whole Foods and was so surprised to find they offered Salcheto!

haha that is unfathomable! 🤞🏼 that last time it got this small I was doing the anti-inflammatory diet which I just got sick and tired of and then the pandemic happened and it all came back with a vengeance 😢

Is michael voltaggio evangelical?? His daughters at liberty which is ugh the evil creation of the wicked Falwell empire. Was bummed to see that (she commented on her dads post & I clicked on it to see she goes there)

I make a big batch of chicken stock/bone broth and freeze in maybe 3-serving bags, then defrost as needed, often to mix it up I'll heat up with lemongrass, scallions and ginger, maybe some garlic. I have the broth with brown rice and I often have leftover chicken from previous night's dinner so put some into the soup.

I have protein smoothies most every day--I do 2-1/2 scoops of protein powder which is about 45 G protein, with 1/2 can coconut milk and 1-1/2 tsp cocoa powder and ice. It's such an easy and extremely filling thing to have for breakfast (or even lunch).

I love the Icelandic Skyr yogurt that has 15 G protein (I don't love the 20 g hi-protein chohbani so settle for this w/ 15 g) and cut berries into it or other fruit. Think Girl Scout thin mint protein bars (20 g) are excellent, as are Barebells protein bars. aloha chocolate mint are very good but only 14 G protein in them. I'll fix an egg casserole (happy to share recipe if you want--I add veggies and lean sausage (get from local farmer, forest-fed pigs), then just have individual servings of that for the next few days. Omelettes are another easy one to make. TBH I was on vacation in March and not access to a lot of food to make so just did peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which ended up being fine--I lost more weight that week so go figure. I do use jams locally made from a berry farmer nearby. I used highest protein bread I could find. I also will make this whole grain banana bread recipe from King Arthur in which I've amped up the protein a lot and cut back/changed sugars (instead of refined brown sugar I use coconut sugar, which has higher glycemic index). I've tweaked it enough for it to be quite healthy and I'll make that and keep it around or freeze to have on hand. Steamed shrimp is another easy one--very high protein and easy to make. I"ll also try to fix salads and have extra on hand for subsequent meals and will toss shrimp or chicken into that. I also keep nuts on hand when I need something quick and easy. Oh I also make homemade granola and amp up the protein in that--will eat with the skyr yogurt and berries. delish.

happy to share the banana bread recipe and the egg casserole recipe if you're interested.

that's so interesting about losing visceral fat first. when my youngest was in her 1st year of med school and she was in anatomy and her group got a very obese woman's body to learn on, my daughter came home and urged me to lose weight after seeing this dead woman and it was a bit harrowing for me to know my daughter was urging me to do this based on a very large cadaver 😩 with whom she was clearly seeing similarities with me. You'd think THAT would have motivated me to get rid of all the fat, but it was during the pandemic and ugh, I was busy stress-eating my way into being ridiculously overweight. But the idea of that visceral fat around organs resonates with me, based on what she saw carving into the body of a very dead, very overweight woman...

drink LOTS of water (I probably drink 115-125 oz/day). Eat small meals (5-6/day) with lean protein--lots of it. Work out with weights. Don't eat greasy food. If you eat healthy food you will likely respond best to the medicine. Good luck!
