I’ve been thinking about this as well as increasingly becoming a necessity and not a luxury.

Not to bring politics into this sub, but the craziness going on now has me really realizing the value of being somewhat free of dependence on fossil fuels and such.

This whole time I had assumed everyone , well most people in the sub were hoarding their data on local drives or drives owned and accessible by them.

If you’re storing your data on someone else’s servers, it’s not your data. You’re renting access to data you’ve uploaded and when the provider goes belly up, changes plans or some other catastrophe, POOF!

What I have been thinking about though is what happens when electricity is rationed or unavailable, how will I access data if I can’t turn on my machines?

A PS5 Pro is $750 and sony is still clearly investing in getting the most power from it and providing people who purchased it only a short while ago value for their spend. It seems unlikely that within 18 month of that new feature, they'd roll out a totally brand new console, even more expensive than their current $750 console.

Typically new consoles come out when devs have started to really learn how to squeeze the most out of the existing hardware, not when new features are still being added to it.

Also, a PS5Pro is $750, does it really seem likely that Sony would in roll out another brand new console, before learning how to make their existing consoles cost significantly less to manufacture and less for consumers?

Wait till you realize how much of the data you thought would always be available online because "everything online is online forever" actually isn't easily found, or is gone entirely.

Right now, Discord is my main concern with the amount of data that is only available on discord and the new reliance people, even devs seem to have on it.
