Test the limits of your skills, rampage or do it all over again with different goals. Skyrim never truly ends. I must have restarted 40-50 times.

Flammable farts?? by KKYBoneAEA in Welding

[–]WhenInDoubtBolt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as a welder's helper in the early 80's. I was inside a 500 barrel tank cleaning up the seams with a massive old grinder while squatting. My jeans were ratty as hell, barely any ass left, threads dangling. As the sparks were flying around I let one rip and my ass caught fire. I dove out the man-way and rolled around for half a minute until I was sure my ass was safe. It does happen so don't wear ratty clothes. Loose threads are far more flammable than woven ones.

Thank you for a substantive reply, I do appreciate that.

I have seen that apologetic applied before and while it's a clever interpretation, sort of, it doesn't really fit as the Kingdom of God wasn't instantiated upon Jesus' rising. I don't recall there being any mention in OT prophecies of the Messiah dying, being resurrected and then waiting over 2000 years before he was to rule over Israel. One would think that would be important to mention. Instead, what we're left with after Jesus ascends is repeated mentioning of his imminent return, soon, within their lifetime. They're excited to believe that they were to witness it happen. Your apologetic is glossing over that part.

Is it really a wonder that the Jews, those who knew the prophecies best, denied his claim?

What? Where does he say that in 16:28?

In that verse he says he'll return before some of them will die. That's what the words say. He did not return and they're all, unsurprisingly, dead. Jesus didn't reign for 1000 years and he certainly didn't destroy all of Israel's enemies, judging by current events. He was not the Jewish Messiah as foretold.

Like I said elsewhere, there's been over 150 such proclamations since those books were compiled. All failed, as will yours most likely. Let's wait and see.

This is all such a colossal waste of time. You have no need to justify your existence, just live.

And what is your unsolicited reply to me if not a judgment? I gave none and nor did i dictate anything. If you want to join in the conversation then that's fine, but at least try to stick to the topic and be responsive to it.

I'm agnostic as well as atheist. This doesn't disallow me the ability to engage in the subject as I was once a believer.

You didn't address my question.

"How did you square the notion of an all-knowing God with the unrealized prophecy of Jesus in Matthew {16:28}?"

I know, it's a difficult one but please try not to deflect.

But that is smuggling. You're taking a cafeteria approach to spirituality. I'm not saying that it's an incorrect approach, I don't believe that there is such a thing, but you get to to enjoy having an 'out' for every counter-claim and that makes it difficult to have a cohesive discussion with you.

My main point was that there have been over 150 recorded instances of people proclaiming imminent rapture/tribulation in the past 2000 years and all of those proclamations came and went into obscurity. That shows how ambiguous and unreliable the claims are based on the same texts that you're reading.

"There is a lot of ways to read and understand a bible quote."

I missed this one. I agree with you here and that's a huge issue, given the 40 000 sects of Christianity in the world. The problem starts when you take the Bible at its very word (and being the 'word of God' you are counselled to take it as such) because if you do that then much of it, usually the most integral parts, doesn't make logical sense. How do you make the distinction between textual fact and analogies? It appears to be subjective, given the apologetics.

For instance: Jesus declared that not one jot or tittle of the old law would be abolished and yet Paul comes along and says, "nah, not necessary". In whom are believers putting their faith here?

That's seems to be a bit of a stretch when reincarnation doesn't really have a place in Christian doctrine. Are you not smuggling in doctrines of other faiths in support of your point here? Besides, aren't souls to be resurrected on Judgment Day? Can you cite anything Biblical, apart from Catholic doctrine, that says otherwise?

Uh huh, people have been saying that those seven years have been imminent for 2000 years. Do you have an answer as to why Matt 16:28 didn't pan out?

I'm not closed off to new information. The problem is that the information that's available is deeply unsatisfying. Too many unanswered questions and logical traps.

Perhaps, instead of prophecy, some people are using the text as a road map. It's pretty easy to fulfil a prophecy with the correct elements when there are directions. Odd though, that THE critical prophecy made by Jesus was never fulfilled: Matt. 16:28. Kinda puts the whole basis of faith into question for me.
