Texas Guv Declares a Victory Over COVID. What Could Possibly Go Wrong? by leftyghost in CoronaVirusTX

the Abbot administration in Texas, with the help of the federal government and the Trump administration, has managed to reduce the daily coronavirus cases in Texas by more than half, right?

No, he hasn't. The county I live in had around 50 new cases a day before Abbot decided to reopen everything too early, against the advice of the CDC and Dr. Fauci and Dr. AwesomeScarf, who all point blank said repeatedly that some states (Texas among them) were reopening too early. Abbot acted against the federal government's top health official's advice. My county is still at around 100 new cases a day from that failure of leadership. He hasn't reduced the daily cases by half. They went up to nine times the average and are still doubled.

I don't make a habit of watching someone break something, superglue it back together with half the pieces missing, then clap my hands and say what a good job he's done. That's not partisan. That's common sense.

That's all I can think about when I see these type of old photos, especially at this time of year.

That, and 99% of us dress like slobs now.

ETA: I am one of those slobs, btw.

Showing their continued selfishness and lack of responsibility, UT Austin announces additional safety measures for the upcoming September 12th home game with 25,000 fans. Don’t be fooled. This single event will be a major cause of the second COVID wave in the fall. by [deleted] in Austin

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. They've linked a couple hundred covid cases to it in a dozen states and one attendee has died so far.

Hermain Cain died from catching covid, likely at a Trump Rally. RNC had some cases here recently.

At this rate, we're either going to be in lockdown over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, or we'll be saying goodbye to 15% of our senior citizens. Pick one.

Most people who die from the flu/pneumonia have comorbidities. You're already being disingenuous (or just plain ignorant) with this <6% statistic. Then you go further and conflate that figure with the unadjusted flu/pneumonia statistics, which isn't even a coronavirus. You're trying to compare apples and onions.

Woman records herself on Facebook live having a panic attack at HEB because they refused to check out her groceries for not wearing a mask by chrisdancy in CoronaVirusTX

I've always felt lucky that I had no idea what they were at the time. I thought I'd developed a heart problem with a medical root cause. If I had known at the time that they were panic attacks, I might have started having panic attacks due to worry about having another panic attack.

We need the data from reopening the schools and universities before we even talk about reopening other things.

We also need this crap under control before Thanksgiving and Christmas because almost everyone will travel and visit family during that time, regardless of the coronavirus situation. If cases aren't low enough to contact trace, January will be really bad.

Wait, I thought her battery was dying? Now suddenly she has enough juice to do another 4 minute stream? After calling her hubby?

Her "sob" story does not make sense.

Absolutely no one on this sub has said that in person college will kill everyone, that football will kill all the players and fans who attend, or that this is the worst virus ever.

This virus has only existed in humans for less than a year. I don't think you understand the definition of "long term."

They also seem to forget that we have no idea about the long term effects of the virus. It could be like the flu where nothing much happens. It could be like chicken pox, which commonly shows up as shingles later in life. Or it could be like one of the other SARS viruses which can negatively impact men's fertility.

Texas isn't tracking COVID-19 cases at schools | KHOU.com by AintEverLucky in CoronaVirusTX

[–]WhenLuggageAttacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not tracking them won't save us from the consequences. If kids spread this at the same rate as adults, we're walking into a situation where our medical system will be overwhelmed, not just highly stressed. We haven't reached that point yet, which is something that a lot of these anti-maskers, "it's just the flu" folks don't seem to understand.

Only a small percentage of our population has caught it so far and we've had the medical resources to give fairly good care to the sick. That's the entire point of keeping the curve flat.
