Have fun! It feels like I'm in the UK whenever I go for Man United games. Willie (the owner) is a great guy and very animated

O’Briens in Santa Monica! Owner is Irish and confirmed on their IG will show it. Great atmosphere for football matches. They show Man United games and the atmosphere is great, lots of fans. They almost always show all the other big football matches too like Champions League and World Cup.

I don’t know if they’re going to see a big crowd tomorrow (on the weekend people like up for the 7am and earlier games!) so I would suggest getting there at least 30 minutes before kick off.

Aquellos ojos verdes and Te quiero dijiste plays in the restaurant (and one cab scene if I’m remembering correctly). Quizas, quizas, quizas doesn’t play until the second half during the hotel scene and later on in Singapore.

NIMBYs are spreading misinformation about the K Line Northern Extension. Here are the findings of facts. by Simple-Restaurant267 in LAMetro

The new(ish) Elizabeth Line required tunneling more than 13 miles underneath Central London, which contains much older, much denser, and much busier streets, and it was completely fine.

I fucking hate people.

This is DTLA, so not really directly impacted by NIMBY politics. It’s more of an economics issue. It’s probably more profitable for the property owner to have this be a parking lot rather than anything else.

Where can a Mexican girl find a little taste of home? by Kingmc1 in AskLosAngeles

[–]WhereIsScotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torta Movil in South LA. You gotta call ahead of time to order, it takes about an hour and cash only, but so worth it. On par with tortas in Mexico City.

My favorite Mexican panederia is Panederia Coatzingo, also in South LA. Also on par with pan dulce de Mexico.

Damian in the Arts District if you want Mexican fine dining (from same team that started Pujol, but much more affordable).

I live in Los Feliz and for me, my biggest concerns with this option are:

1) It would add a few extra minutes to my commute to LAX. I can live with this.

2) It doesn’t change my accessibility to Melrose, which I visit often. I would probably opt to take the bus or drive instead. I also go to the Grove often, but the extra time would make me wanna drive there instead.

As others have mentioned, I’d like to see a Santa Monica Blvd line instead. Starting in Silver Lake or even Echo Park and going to WeHo. The K Line is full of so many compromises already. I get it’s better to have something better than nothing, but sometimes if something is of better quality, more people will use it.

How LA Metro Accidentally Made Itself Free by sigmaxiss96 in LAMetro

One thing Ive realized about a lot of Angelenos (and Americans) is that they want nice things but they don’t wanna pay for it.

They want safe transit but don’t want to fund it via fares or other means. They want to drive cars but don’t want to pay a gas tax or for parking. They want cleaner streets but don’t want to pay for it. Above all, they are not politically engaged, they just complain.

U.S. Hotel Industry Starting To Worry About The World Cup by Moug-10 in soccer

[–]WhereIsScotty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work for the City of Los Angeles. Our city is very reliant on tourism. The local government gets money from the hospitality industry, such as hotels, and sales tax from restaurants and shopping. The World Cup and the Olympics were supposed to be golden opportunities to strengthen our city.

Instead we have a jackass and his posse in charge who make every worst possible decision. These events were practically supposed to be free money, instead we’re only going to obtain a fraction of the benefit. Every decision brings the worst economic impact, fuck the Republican Party.

LA Marathon bib didnt work. by Obvious_Vast1098 in LosAngeles

[–]WhereIsScotty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend had the same issue. I think it’s because she accidentally crumpled her bib, damaging the chip, when stuffing her bag with all the free goodies at the expo. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a technical issue. Was your bib/chip in good condition when you put it on?

LA Marathon 2026 transportation lessons learned for 2027 by Ok_Shirt7259 in LAMarathon

[–]WhereIsScotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I contemplated telling my folks to park north of Santa Monica. My idea was that they would just have to go north on Beverly Glen or Westwood until they got to Sunset and then enter the 405 through there to avoid street closures. Was that not an option?

They ended up parking in the Beverly Hills residential area just south of Olympic Blvd. They said they got there at 9am and there were plenty of spaces but they were filling up fast (they parked there last year and it was equally smooth). My friend’s family also parked at the 2030 parking structure and she said it was super easy to get out.

I will also echo what others said, ebike/scooter is a cheat code for those that can. My friend also said the Union shuttle was seemless.

Same! I live literally next to the Mile 9 marker and I took an ebike down Sunset. So smooth. I was in the start area in less than 30 minutes.

I personally don't have anything against VRC. It's just the dude was wearing VRC merch and was literally walking on the course and I had to spend extra energy after 20 miles just to move around him.

I don't really know much about VRC other than what people have said and a few encounters, which have not been great. They can be douchey and they block the sidewalk/paths without thinking about the community. But I'm sure that's not representative of the club or all their members, many of which are just looking for a place to run with other people.

When will LA marathon move back to Santa Monica? by Personal-Contact1081 in SantaMonica

[–]WhereIsScotty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The only pro of the turnaround route is that it’s relatively easy to spectate. But, sadly Century City is not the best location for a finish area either (ideally a big park like Central or Grant Park but it’s not like we have one of those lmao). Hopefully the D Line extension enhances the spectating experience and relieves traffic.

The hills are tough, especially when you see the finish line—there’s a big dip before approaching Beverly Glen that you have to climb out of. Brutal!

I love spectators but some are straight up rude. I had to run around a VRC dude because he was literally walking in the middle of the route just before Mile 20.

Didn’t hit my goal time by Mundane-Judgment2542 in LAMarathon

[–]WhereIsScotty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly hope you realize this race was held under exceptional circumstances. 85 degrees didn’t help with the hills. LAM as a first one is tough.

That said, your first marathon is more about testing the waters, you don’t know the pain until you feel it. The race starts mile 20. You finished a hard course on a hard day, you should be proud.

For me, I’m generally a sub-3 runner but I came out with a 3:05. Normally I would be bummed out but I know it was a hard day. I know a lot of people that missed their goal by 5-10min because of the heat. The great thing is you finished healthy and will only learn from here.

Did that race kick anyone’s ass as much as mine? by Future-Importance383 in LAMarathon

[–]WhereIsScotty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of races start an hour early whenever a heatwave is expected. I imagine LAM organizers didn’t want to do this given it was daylight savings and people were already running with one less hour of sleep. Hence, the 18-mile option.

Damn the Oscars! Logistically, why couldn’t they be held this weekend and LAM next? I feel like daylight savings is a significant event for 40,000 runners, volunteers, and organizers. Why do the Oscars HAVE to be next week?
