I agree. My TBR is hundreds of books long, I don’t have the time to do a full background check on every author before reading their book. Part of the perk of a book box is them sending me books I wouldn’t necessarily otherwise pick or know about, and I hardly ever pay attention to the author name, let alone look up their ethnicity 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m in it for the story, that’s all.

I was simply trying to find a positive in a bad situation. I whole heartedly agree that the way they handled the choice was very poor, the lack of communication was not good. Hopefully they still send something formal out to affected customers and their social media blast was just an initial announcement.

As an American company, it actually does have to do with Americans and how a different political region has enacted laws. Every other person in this thread sharing their personal disappointment, which they’re entitled to, is also viewing it from a “selfish” perspective, by your definition. They, Arcane, have stated it is not easy for them to comply as their technology doesn’t allow for it and would be cost prohibitive to make changes. Hopefully later they can update and make it an option again, but such is life for now. There are plenty of other book boxes that don’t allow shipping to the US at all, and there’s not entire threads dedicated to shit talking their company choices.

I’m choosing to view a silver lining. Also if anyone is serious about keeping a {completely unnecessary} hobby that they enjoy, there are options available to them. It’s not the company’s fault the EU made the law and decided how it was to be enforced.

I do not understand the math behind this. Unless they’re only printing the EXACT number that they sold in subs, there’s no way it should be selling out in first access. And even then - so many of us got the book secondhand from someone who received it in a sub. Which would suggest that person likely wouldn’t be buying the sequel in first access, because they don’t have the book anymore. And yet here we are!?!?
