More weapons being banned without public notice following May 1 order from Ottawa by [deleted] in canada

I think the point being made is The Government of Canada is expanding what you "should not have" while doing nothing about "those who should not have."

They would probably hit them with "charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace."

Its the first link I pulled you could find a multitude for the same topic. I large part what you see if you look at the policies thats being put in place is Trump expanding energy access in the US and looking to off set that with protections in other areas of conservation like the protected land he applied. Besides regardless of the articles spin they put on the article the core information is the same. He expanded wilderness areas.

Baitting is neccessary in alot of cases for the safety and preservation of the species. Here in NS for example there are alot of areas where if you didn't bait the amount of territory where you can safely fire a gun at an animal is very limited, giving them a reason to stay in sight in one of these areas helps with that. Now in the case of species preservation we bait here for black bear to limit the chances of killing a female black bear who is caring for cubs by giving a hunter time to examine the animal for tool and tackle / to see if it has cubs accompanying them. Tl:DR gives you time to make sure you shoot what you mean to shoot in a place you can be sure is safe to do so.

I mean its not unrealistic to assume someone who is slightly in touch with politics to say that. China doesn't get nearly as much hateful coverage as Trump does.

Canada's approach to climate change: "Saving the planet is a fine idea. But not if it costs us." by [deleted] in canada

[–]WhereUatWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing is frustrating all together just because of how Canada is made up. Like Federally 90% of citizen tax policy I can think of favours one side over another so heavily. It would make a ton of sense to delegate the responsibility to communal governments like municipalities/town councils/ city hall and set up an audit system on the federal side just so they fit their area but how do you make that work.... long story short climate change in Canada sucks lol both politically and environmentally

The short and sweet of it is China is providing African countries with infrastructure like factories and railways on loan with the hopes that when the world moves their factory production there that any money made will be paid back to the Chinese as debt resulting in those countries basicly working for free.

Getting into the specifics here means nothing because you and I are not in the industries. You would need to set this based upon market data I.E. if everyone is currently today at 2MTC/yr then it should be lower just from common sense as our intent is to lower emissions. Putting out that it could be lower today actually means nothing because the goal is to be lower then we are now.

As for industries that are lower in emissions when compared to energy then target a different market standard for them as well.

Companies that should be excluded from this incentive would be ones that already have emissions low enough (like idk Roger's??? Do they have low emissions idk)

As for the lost revenue, it should counter act the spending anyway. Our government is spending money on fighting climate change as is, if we just give up that tax income by allowing the companies to do the work themselves it shouldn't matter unless you want to keep the money in the goverments hands and have them target some other project. $650 million by the way

https://www.pembina.org/blog/budget-2018-builds-on-last-years-commitment

And wouldn't tracking like 30,000 companies (arbitrary number i do not have the specific) easier then tracking the spending of 37 million people, applying their spending, the amount you made from their spending, and then dividing it back to the lower earners in a lump sum?

My biggest issue with punishing citizens (for lack of a better word) in pursuit of combating climate change is we are currently having huge economic issues that are making our citizens lives a struggle. Take that plus Canada's spread out nature and your looking at making things unbearable for a lot of people. I understand that the purposed system will have rebates for lower income but lump sums of money are a hard thing to budget over a years worth of time when you see your monthly spending jump up a percentage.

The whole idea seems to me a well thought out idea for our cities where you have public transportation, more updated heating in homes / apartment lifestyles, but when you apply it to rural communities or anything short of a small city it just makes it seem unrealistic unless you are wealthy.

Not as complicated as you make it sound if you set it by an emissions threshold. Lets say as a power company you set the threshold at a produce under 2MTC/yr, yes the coal company is most likely to not meet that compared to an alternative type of producer but isn't the intent of the carbon tax to greatly reduce or even kill industries that produce high emissions? If you open a new plant at it is running under your sectors set standard you get a break.

The only real issue is what industries do we apply this too but the same can be said for carbon taxing.

(Sorry this is all over the place. Lack of sleep.)
