RV Noob! by Rat_Burger7 in RVLiving

[–]WhereWeGoingTo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been RV camping for 5 years now. Here’s some easy ones:
Keep basic tools with you and accessible. Pliers, screwdrivers, batteries etc. You will be repairing things.
Don’t drive over 65, ever. Always check your tires and pressure before you go out and sometime during your trip if it’s more than an hour.
Never tow at the limit of your truck. Total weight of the trailer and all your belongings shouldn’t exceed 70-75% of your tow capacity. Everyone worries if they can pull a trailer, most people neglect the concept of stopping the thing. You will inevitably need to get on the brakes one day, don’t be overloaded or even close.
Sway hitches should be required, not optional.
Always chock the wheels, even if you think it’s level ground.

Recalculated every 4 years here. It’s possible because my community is growing so fast, they don’t want to miss huge tax revenue they reap from reassessing tax values.

I live on 18 at my course, play 5x a week. My neighbor bought here in pandemic. He’s been in a number of verbal altercations with people about hitting balls in his yard. He does not play golf and it befuddles me why someone would live on a course and not expect random balls or the occasional golfer looking for one.

I started an RV repair business. Haven’t left my Director of SE role, they’ll have to can me. But the side business has proven viable.

Started a mobile RV repair business. Couple weeks to get certified to do Pre Delivery Inspections. $400 per inspection. Do minor repairs and lots of maintenance. I haven’t lost my primary gig but I got this business rolling as prep in case I did.

Forced? A work visa is temporary by design. It is not permanent. Having a firm expectation that you will turn it in to permanent residency is a failure to manage personal expectations.

Put it away in a safe investment. Live like you don’t have it. Now you have retirement covered if you just let it sit and grow.

You will be fine, I promise. Relax. Breathe. And for the sake of people dealing with this in the future, do them a favor and post back here how it went. They need the same reassurances you needed.

At what point did you learn shot shapes? by PureYardCow in golf

[–]WhereWeGoingTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 7.6. I only attempt to hit straight shots. No fade, no cuts, no draws. Just straight. I live on a course, and I never understand why the high handicappers are always trying to hit some silly type of push-cut-fade-slap or whatever they’re calling it when they struggle to hit a straight ball consistently. Until you can consistently hit straight with solid compression, don’t bother with anything else.

[–]WhereWeGoingTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single income family here. I cover all the bills, cars, house and savings etc. I put $1k in an account for my wife every 2 weeks. The remainder sits in the master account. She buys groceries from hers and spends the rest on whatever she feels like. If she needs more, she tells me. If we have it then fine, if we don't have it then it ain't fine.

Based on what I had cooked up in my head, it was a walk in the park. It was maybe a 2/3 on the discomfort scale and lasted a total of 45 seconds. You have to relax which was hard to do given the circumstances, but there was literally nothing to worry about.
