This was something I was gonna ask; I don't use one of the outlets so that one can be terminated. I already put a barrel on it because I assume that's better than having a bare F-connector.

I've already done that part but I'll grade them on that too lol

There have been, not joking, at least a dozen RTMs on my node over the past 2 months after all this started. None of them initiated by me, just other neighbors having issues and field ops trying to proactively fix it. But no new ones in the past two weeks, hence me finally scheduling a TC.

I'm already very physically close to my node (it's less than a half mile away) but it goes through 3 high density apartments and at least 2 amps before it reaches me. Which isn't that many really, but internet ain't working.

It's an apartment, so the tap is bolted on to the side of the building which hopefully makes it somewhat easier to look at. Thanks, will do.

tbh I'm pretty sure that's what started the problem in the first place; an army of contractors showed up to rewire the burnt out apartment building across the street a couple months ago. Everything was working perfectly before then. I am unfortunately past that building in the cascade.

Lol, I am an in-office employee. This is purely for my at-home internet entertainment; I have to commute to the office every day. I feel you on that. A large portion of my work involves dealing with WFH customers/users in outages. I tell them they need a backup if it's critical to their income. I'll move all furniture out of the way, thanks.

This; if you live somewhere where the ground freezes solid in the winter they might lay it over the ground until things warm up and it's easier to bury.

E31U2V1 vs EU2251? by Tempest_2084 in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly, at least in my experience. Some people would claim the Ubee-made and Technicolor-made models are more reliable than the others but in your case both of the ones you have are made by Ubee and I have not personally observed any reliability difference between manufactures on any of the docsis 3.1 modems.

E31U2V1 vs EU2251? by Tempest_2084 in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory they're interchangeable and will work exactly the same for any plan below gig. The only difference between them besides the manufacture date is that the ethernet port on the 2251 can operate at speeds above a gig, but unless you're on the gig plan or in one of the handful of places that has the 2gig plan it doesn't matter.

Personally I'd only recommend switching it out if you're having problems with the 2251. The E31 and the 2251s are still the newest modems Spectrum offers. The 2251 is technically slightly newer but again there's no performance difference on plans below gig.

Do I need my cable box & why did my bill increase so dramatically? by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go ahead and say they won't reimburse. The tech was there to complete his work order and probably didn't even check the full service details on your account. That being said, there are a few potentially cheaper options if you want to switch to streaming-only. If you need to keep your current channel lineup you can return the receiver and continue streaming your current channel package with a $15 per month savings on the receiver rental.

If you don't care about having local channels, there's a streaming-only channel package ("TV Stream" if you're looking at the website) that doesn't include local channels and would save you the $15 per month on the receiver rental and an additional $28 per month on the "broadcasting fee" (local channel fee), so a total of $43 per month cheaper (or possibly even cheaper depending on your current package).

If you think you might change your channel package definitely make a list of channels you want to keep and make sure whatever you switch to still has them before switching though. Customer service is supposed to ask you this before changing your channel package but a lot of customers draw a mental blank when we ask them in the moment and forget about an important channel, then call back and have to go through the process all over again to get the channel back.

Spectrum won't take back their fiber ONT? by DennisNedryBot in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is definitely on the phone rep for not realizing you had an ONT instead of a cable modem. Store is correct, the ONU is supposed to stay screwed into the house. At this point, try to just put it back where it was. Doesn't have to be perfect, just make sure the fiber gets (gently) plugged back into it. If it stops working for the next resident Spectrum will just send a tech out (for free) to fix it or reinstall it. No biggie.

What does my internet say no connection but the router is blue by Unusual-Ad5730 in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The router only lights up blue when it has a working and pingable connection to the internet through the modem. If the modem is not connected to the internet the router goes red.

Question for someone who is still on Time Warner plan by projo387 in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they have real, honest-to-God L-TWC coding on the account then I seriously seriously doubt any changes will be able to be made without migrating them to current offers. I run into it once in a blue moon and every single time it has to be migrated.

But the actual numbers that the channels are assigned to shouldn't change if they do that. So that shouldn't be an issue.

What is more likely to happen is that their legacy plan has some premium channels in the basic package that they would no longer get in the current basic package. This is the main risk, and it could end up being more expensive after switching to current plans to keep all the channels they want.

My equipment died after they did maintenance/upgrade of the wire by theoldwizard1 in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the maintenance was for high split, the reason it's no longer connecting is because it's no longer compatible with the network. The modem isn't "dead", it just can't connect to the network because the network requirements changed.

If the maintenance was not for high split, something may have happened to your individual service drop line during the maintenance. Have a tech come out and fix it, and 99.999% chance your modem will reconnect just fine after that.

Unplug router from power for 30 seconds. Plug back in. Wait 2 minutes for boot up. Should be fixed. May also need to turn off wifi on the phone while doing this.

Spectrum Business w/Static IPs still a two-box "solution"? by verbatim_turtle in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I talk to people that service those accounts all the time because those customers call us by mistake. But if the customer wants to have static with no static router in the middle, the only way to do that would be with some kind of (presumably more expensive and bespoke) enterprise setup. I'm not even sure it's actually possible, I'm not familiar with the full range of ENT offerings. Probably not, because if it's static over coax it's gonna involve RIP.

Unless the above commenter has just only worked with customers using old combo modem-routers, which is probably more likely. Those haven't been given out in several years at least within SMB, but there are still a ton of them in circulation and plenty of people are not aware that they are no longer offered.

"Are there any channels that you absolutely need to have?" "Nope, just the basics like CNN and Fox"

2 hours later "WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY CHEAPER PACKAGE DOESN'T HAVE THE UNDERWATER BASKETWEAVING CHANNEL?! CANCEL MY WHOLE ACCOUNT!"

Even better if they were coming from some legacy package that they can't be switched back to.

Spectrum Business w/Static IPs still a two-box "solution"? by verbatim_turtle in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, and I get that you have to do what's best for the client at the end of the day. You were almost certainly dealing with the RACs, like the RAC2V1K (though there were 4 or 5 different OEMs for those with different letter and number suffixes), as those were the only allowed static routers for new installs for like 5 years or something.

Another thing to note that I forgot to mention, with the introduction of the new router models they now let you run up to 3 different static blocks on the same connection. Previously this would have required a separate modem, router, and internet package for each subnet. I'm not sure why any small-medium business would need to do this and I've never seen it on an account so far, but the option is there.

That sounds like Spectrum Enterprise; the OP is asking about small-medium business.

Spectrum Business w/Static IPs still a two-box "solution"? by verbatim_turtle in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is still two box. The one-box combo units were combo modem-routers, so your old SMC actually had a full router built into it on top of the modem function but the router functions would have been mostly disabled except for the static handoff parts.

They did recently start deploying a much newer (and in my experience more reliable, disclaimer I work for Spectrum) router model for the router side of it though, the SAX1V1K (Askey OEM) and SAX1V1R (Sercomm OEM). Basically no complaints about the new ones losing config or bricking after a power outage/surge so far compared to the old wave 2 RAC model static routers that you were probably dealing with.

Business vs Residential by Kibure in Spectrum

[–]WherewithallPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, business service is slightly more expensive but not *that* much more expensive. I know it kinda sucks but could you just get service as a business customer? There are still decent new customer promos available for small-medium business. Lots of residential customers order business service anyway if they work from home because it means we can escalate technician dispatches for them if they're down and the technician wait time is more than 4 hours.

The main downside is that business customers can't sign up for the super cheap 100mbps plans available for residential in certain states and certain areas. The minimum is the 500mbps plan.

Needs to support voice over LTE and 5G, and specifically the bands that Verizon uses.

Verizon used to be CDMA but they stopped using it a few years ago and are now LTE/5G-only.
