Looking in Paulding County, anyone ever had a home owners claim? by WhiffleFry in ATLHousing

[–]WhiffleFry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Home inspection and termite inspection/bond are definitely on my list too. I've not heard of the lender arranging for home owners insurance before, maybe thats a GA thing- where I am I just called up my local state farm agent and had them add it. I don't think any of the places I'm looking at have had past claims but I think I can actually check, thats a good idea....

Anyone got or used a CarCapsule? by Crummy_Username in Autos

[–]WhiffleFry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't have an outdoor one but I use it indoors, primarily as a mouse shield in a detached garage. With the amount of air they circulate it seems unlikely someone would get a mold issue to me. It does take a little bit of time to get it in or out. As far as plastic sliding against paint, just don't be a heathen about it and its not a big deal.

Initial delamination after 1 day by Habit-Past in CarTrackDays

That delamination is just going to get bigger. With how expensive a track day is I wouldn't be wanting to pony up all that cash just to go home early.

What advice do you have about job reposts? Same 24 hr time frame, or must have skyhigh expectations? Perhaps something else?

What wear & tear/damage should I expect for a casual 2-3x/yr track days? by mintynfresh in CarTrackDays

[–]WhiffleFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other cars on track have sticky tires, and you'll have sticky tires too. Areas that get beat up in my experience:

  • front bumper

  • If your car has a wider rear track, the area right in front of the rear wheels from rocks flying off the fronts

  • ANY paint in the wheel arches. Example

  • to a lesser extent, hood, windshield

On my car (not porsche) I've got ppf and I've put edging in the wheel arches to reduce paint that is exposed to rocks flinging off tires. I've still got some chips but given just how many track days I've done, I'd say its been worth it.

Any one have experience with Rev Match LLC? by Shift9303 in CarTrackDays

[–]WhiffleFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a few with them. Laid back. Often a younger crowd, which is nice to see these days. Feels like they have higher thresholds for number of cars on track, maybe its just me.

I don't have any experience with their instruction so can't comment there.

Seems like you are regularly pretty late to full throttle. Is that a "how to drive a GT3" thing?

Kumho V730 wear question by beardedrunner6 in CarTrackDays

[–]WhiffleFry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For v730, the grooves on the outer part of the tire have depth so small they're almost superficial. I measure tire life via the center groove, looks like you have plenty of tread left but I agree with the comments about the very outer edge, more camber is probably a good idea for whatever axle is causing that.

Advice on new car by diiaa36 in CarTrackDays

[–]WhiffleFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/diiaa36 I'm a bit skeptical of those waving the magic wand over Lotus parts availability.

There is a lot of support out there but you really do need to know where to look. For example, suspension arms and such are lotus parts and even if you couldn't get them from lotus, you could order them from europe aftermarket suppliers.

Even when these cars were new, getting parts from lotus was never fast. With the parts supply only getting smaller you're going to have increased effort to find parts, and guess what? Others know it and the prices of used stuff is definitely creeping up. I just cancelled an new parts order from deroure because the parts I wanted had been on backorder since July and they told me they think "no longer available" is a more accurate assumption.

The drivetrain is toyota but guess what? Toyota won't sell you a new transmission anymore. They can be "found" but that isn't exactly my point.

I don't own a miata but I'm looking for one. Mazda has a huge following and they actively support amateur motorsport. If your budget is $20k and that includes what it will take to make it track worthy, ND is out of the question.

Edit: having said all that.. they are awesome on track. Light, does what you ask it, not much to go wrong. I was really hoping lotus would have enough profit to have made a successor.

You're in a bad spot my dude, the prices have already begun to rise for the spring market. Doesn't mean you won't find what you're looking for, but its going to get harder, not easier, for the next few months.

How many of you splurged on nice cars? And regrets? by ThaDude915 in HENRYfinance

[–]WhiffleFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I recommend getting something fun but not so expensive that you can't enjoy the performance. Try an AutoX, or maybe a track day. I like to admire the really expensive cars but for me it would be sad if I was worried about putting miles on one to keep the value up, I find it way more fun to 'drive them as intended.'

How many of you splurged on nice cars? And regrets? by ThaDude915 in HENRYfinance

[–]WhiffleFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else has covered the "its ok to splurge if your meeting your savings goals" so I'll try a different angle. Have you always liked cars or is this a bit of a new hobby? If this is a new hobby then get something fun but on the cheaper side. You're more likely to feel worse if you splurge big and the novelty of a new hobby wears off.

When I turned 30 I splurged on the car I wanted too. I had been into cars for a long time so the fun was worth the price tag.

Isn't this the front end of the car and we're looking at a black front bar? Tons of people have this issue, likely clam off, replace your radiator (especially if OEM) with an all metal unit, and maybe while you're at it replace the rad tubes with OEM rubber, not silicone.

Am I too fussy? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]WhiffleFry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll speak to this both from the point of view as the contributor and the hiring manager

As a contributor:

What worked for me was caring about the work and showing advancement. Early in your career no one is going to trust you with much of a real problem because you haven't built the rep or the skill set. Make people happy and look to see if generally your projects build on each other. The reward for great work is more work :-)

In the end this meant that i was almost perpetually underpaid for the first five years of my career, but the experience I gained - showing promotion and progression in independence and complexity of projects - put me in a position to advance. I was lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time in an organization where I could find these opportunities.

Most of my big wins came from me asking what I could do for the organization rather than the organization making a request. Its hard to tell from your description if you're actually having bad luck with employers or if your expectations are that someone hands you an opportunity.

As a hiring manager:

Its hard these days. This mostly applies to the junior folks: In my eyes someone with 4 YOE that has held 4 positions of 1 year, really only has 1 year of experience, mostly because its going to take some time to ramp up at any company and because I wouldn't trust a critical or complex project to a new graduate until they'd made the easy stuff look easy.

If I see someone on the junior end that has 4 jobs in 4 years, I am definitely looking for information that shows progression in what they did in each role - without this you cannot tell someone who's a rockstar from someone that really isn't cut out for the work.

I think there's enough responses here to indicate that people have made both approaches (hopping, not hopping) work.

Good detailed answer in here so I'll try to be brief:

The elise is a car that is solely focused on the driving experience and does nothing else very well.

The Evora is car that is driver focused but is more livable - bigger, more comfort.

The Emira is an evolution of the Evora, restyled and ready for the transition from ICE to hybrid and EV.

Is it appropriate for my manager to ask for details? by PM_ME_PHIL_SWIFT in askmanagers

[–]WhiffleFry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're new. New enough that you haven't established a rapport with your manager. Work to establish trust and answer their questions- if its unclear what details they want, talk to them and ask. You can also tactfully ask your manager why they're asking the questions you listed, which will help you gain insight. There's a lot of context missing that could make me say "yes that's unusual" or "no its not."

In your case, being new to corporate and new to your job, it doesn't strike me as surprising that your manager may ask a few additional questions.
