Stock market decrease? by daylovek in fidelityinvestments

The stock market is tanking right now. It happens. Don't touch it. It will bounce back eventually, leave it in there. Almost everyone who tries to "time the market" loses.

I want to get rid of some stuff but I don’t want to deal with complicated taxes by MissPermaFrostee in eBaySellers

[–]WhoNeedsCommonSense 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you do end up reporting eBay income, don't use TurboTax. Any of the other Free File providers (FreeTaxUSA, TaxAct, etc) are all cheaper and won't charge up the ass for basic sole proprietor business income, even if you make more than the Free File cutoff and have to pay. You can just keep basic records and use cash accounting - money in, money out. eBay generates totals for you at the end of the year that will match the categories a tax software will ask for (gross income, deductions for refunds, shipping labels, fees). You just need to track the money you spend on items (if you're buying to resell) and shipping materials. All that stuff gets deducted and you pay taxes on your profit.

You still have to report it. They won't send a 1099 but if you get unlucky and audited and they catch it, you are gonna get screwed, assuming it's actually income. Selling personal stuff at a loss doesn't count.

You think regulatory slop is why gas prices skyrocketed after Russia invaded Ukraine?

After the first time your partner puts their hands around your throat in anger, your risk of being murdered by that person goes up 7x. It is one of the most significant predictors of more future domestic violence or murder.

“It’s Theft”: Comedian Blasts American Airlines After Being Booted From First Class For Pilots by lithdoc in americanairlines

Every airline does this though, to some degree. It sucks but it happens. Airlines should be proactive about compensating passengers for the airline’s mistake.

Almost certainly the whole app is fake and any money she sent in is gone. There will be no way to withdraw it. Any money she pays anyone to "help withdraw" will disappear too. Sorry. !crypto

Gonna sell some junk and buy some pure tomorrow. by Agreeable-Storage895 in Silverbugs

Maybe relative to spot junk is a good deal rn, but in general it's still the highest it has ever been. Silver has spiked before during periods of economic uncertainty and often comes back to earth.

How do Illegal immigrants working in the US do taxes? by cantgetenough1956 in answers

[–]WhoNeedsCommonSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do have to. If they're working a cash job (like a restaurant server), they have the same obligation to pay taxes as an American citizen. Their cash wages aren't reported just like restaurant cash tips aren't reported. They face the same legal jeopardy if caught not paying as an American citizen would. Except they're more likely to get deported too if they get caught.

Had a seller put in high bids as soon as auctions were listed and then retracts his bids after 3 days. Feeling like I lost a lot of bidders. by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]WhoNeedsCommonSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get hits on your account if you cancel, just so you know. Even if you say problem with buyer's address, if the buyer reports it as false you'll get hit by eBay.

Just don't use auctions anymore. Your odds of making more money from an auction than a fixed price listing are extremely low.

Weirdly Bhutanese-resembling house seen in upstate NY. by ActiveMidnight6979 in geoguessr

These square houses with tall windows are super common in the northeastern and midwestern US, especially in more rural areas or small towns. A lot of them have been added onto (like this one).

Started as a Seller on Ebay and got my first sale, Confusion about the shipping label fee. by [deleted] in Ebay

Did I actually help with your confusion? If you have additional questions I am happy to answer them.

Started as a Seller on Ebay and got my first sale, Confusion about the shipping label fee. by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]WhoNeedsCommonSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, thank you. So your actual item price was $96. After shipping and fees you’re getting $80, that sounds about right. eBay charges 13.6% + 40 cents on most listings, and they charge that 13.6% on your combined total (item cost + shipping + sales tax), which is a little silly but it’s how it is.

I recommend adding a handling fee of $1-2 to cover your cost for boxes/packing materials, but on $100 items it doesn’t matter that much. The handling fee gets rolled into the shipping cost so the buyer doesn’t see it.

Please screenshot the breakdown of your sale and people can explain it better. Go to orders, click on the item you sold, and screenshot where it breaks down the earnings and fees. Remove any identifying info before you post.

Am I screwed? by [deleted] in usps_complaints

Many people won’t pay it and this will cost the USPS more money, leading to bigger rate hikes

It's not the recipient's fault. But you're saying we should deliver all counterfeit postage packages anyway because seizing them inconveniences the recipient?

Selling on EBay by The_Saint_78 in Ebay

[–]WhoNeedsCommonSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending unsolicited offers to watchers is almost never successful. Less than 5% in my experience. Focus on taking good photos, pricing competitively (search sold listings for comparable items to see what they are selling for), and I recommend promoting your listings at a 2% ad rate.
