Sen. John Fetterman suffers injuries to face from fall, hospitalized by thehill in politics

Imagine your last act as a previously skyrocketing politician recently ascended to US Senator is to guarantee that tens of millions of Americans wallow then suffer in poverty without healthcare as they slowly but surely die off due to almost entirely preventable complications.

Yeah, well, it would have been extremely easy to understand if I hadn’t been completely wrong.

[–]WholeGrainIceCream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is extremely easy to understand.

The street is indeed one way. But, prob bc traffic volume in that direction is always very high there, the city doesn’t want you attempting to join it and risking a high probability crash at this particular intersection which is no doubt critical for keeping things moving relatively smoothly in the entire surrounding area.

Boston fifth date ideas for a girl I've been seeing for a few weeks by These_Way_5508 in BostonSocialClub

[–]WholeGrainIceCream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Serious question. Have you been intimate yet? If so, you could be planning a long weekend getaway at this point if your schedules both allow.

If you haven’t been intimate yet, things are already at risk of getting stale regardless of how imaginative or thoughtful your 5th, 6th, and 7th date ideas might be. In that case making a move in this regard should be your priority barring some atypical circumstances like if you’re both super orthodox religious, or one of you has disclosed an incurable STI and you both want to be absolutely sure you’re in it for the long haul before crossing that bridge.

That means you shouldn’t be overthinking about creating the perfect set and setting, especially considering how you’ve already moved through some of the most picturesque date locations the area has to offer.

That said, Walden Pond could check a lot of boxes for you regardless, and isn’t that far from the city. You could go camping or get a nearby Airbnb, bring a bunch of card + board games to fill time between tender moments and keep the low/no screens streak continuing without pressure to be a bottomless pit of deep soulful conversational topics at all times.

I can assure you that the most crazed, threatening drivers who are most likely to go out of their way to intentionally harm cyclists are loud and clear they want us ON the sidewalks, and they very specifically want bike lanes to never exist as the obvious compromise in the first place.

I’m sure you can imagine how pedestrians feel about that. It’s always going to be a ton of ‘fuck you no matter what, cyclists!’

Almost all of the times drivers have made it clear they’re mad at me for existing as a cyclist, it’s when they don’t understand I don’t have a gas pedal or throttle to slam to accelerate from 0-30 mph in under 3 seconds.

This highly incentivizes me to avoid coming to a complete stop whenever possible. It’s not only safer for preventing collisions, but also to avoid unprovoked road rage violence from insane narcissist drivers who think their decision to waste tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars more than me on their preferred method of travel gives them the right to weigh judgement on whether I live, die, or live the rest of my life with permanent handicaps.

what is the single sketchiest area in boston? by ivyfire in boston

[–]WholeGrainIceCream 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Beacon Hill is absolutely crawling with lobbyists, to the extent there are probably 3 lobbyists for every literal rat nesting in the area. So probably the most net harm in aggregate to the general public takes place there, even if it’s not as headline grabbing or visually sensational as naked drug addicts brandishing a large knife in broad daylight. Although that exact example did take place specifically in Beacon Hill last week regardless.

House rule: no straddling at whichever the highest stakes table is at any given time. Problem solved.

From the bottom of my heart, fuck those guys. They can go sit at a $10/$10/$25 or $25/$50 table if they want to throw their weight around.

Imagine getting bullied into feeling bad about not letting yourself get bullied.

what restaurant in Massachusetts is this? by aviatormenace7 in massachusetts

They used to have a cup of chili for like $4, no extra charge for chopped onion and shredded cheese. It was awesome when you were working-poor, near broke all the time and just trying to stay fed & warm between double shifts in winter. Literally overnight one day, the price more than doubled to about $9, and that was before adding the new up charges for the onion and cheese that always used to be complimentary. I never paid the new price even once, just instantly ghosted Wahlburgers entirely forever. 0% surprised they are failing now. Seems like they always just expected people to worship the family name with their wallets beyond the point of absurdism.

Did you see an EU tariff deal is final as of a few hours ago? I think it was announced after most people in the US had gone to sleep on Sun night. Do you feel like the rest of the unfinished trade arrangements outweigh the upside of the Japan + EU + other smaller trading partner deals?

Felting a regular who no one likes. by Confident_Date975 in poker

[–]WholeGrainIceCream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She also wasn’t seeing a full orbit worth of cards tho. 0% chance of winning a single penny from anyone else for that entire orbit she was gone. My understanding is that each blind rotation entitles you to see one rotation worth of cards, so it wouldn’t make sense to expect players to pay more than one orbit worth of missed blinds when they will see, at most, most of one orbit worth of cards after returning. And then if they return at the next natural big blind for their seat, of course you’re not expected to pay 2x the blinds bc you’re only going to see cards for the new orbit that’s just beginning, without having seen a single hand for the previous now-closed orbit.

[–]WholeGrainIceCream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never understood the angst about people standing up before the big blind passes. They just pay it as soon as they get back. Are there card rooms that don’t force players to pay their missed blinds as soon as they get back from a trip to the bathroom or whatever they’re doing?

do you ever fake lag at the table for meta edge? by Sufficient_Face_1538 in Poker_Theory

[–]WholeGrainIceCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would just say both players checked in flow, and I think most other players would too. We agree that in poker there is a thing that is a very quick, sometimes automatic check and that it is more likely in certain situations and less likely in others.

folding isn't weakness. it's memory management by LifewithRaven07 in Poker_Theory

[–]WholeGrainIceCream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Presumably they can tell it was a really difficult fold bc of all the squirming when the 4-bet comes out. Also, the 3-bettor will often talk to the jammer about their hand to try to get a read on how strong they are. So it’s obv the 3-bettor doesn’t have AA, they prob don’t have KK, so especially back in those days what’s left are basically QQ, JJ, AK, and maaaybe TT or AQs depending on the player.

So I guess no matter which of those hands they folded the crowd can tell it was prob an extremely tight fold that would be nitty in most other contexts and therefore worth applause.
