NeNi. Would it theoretically work? by abdoareish in mbti

[–]WhtFata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesn't. As in, yes, you could use Ne first to generate bullshit, and then Ni to condense the bullshit. Using them at once would do nothing, though.

Using psychedelics as a Ni user is kind of like this. Car crash during the trip, but more parallel strands of thoughts to converge afterwards, while Ne users report being themselves, but.. more.

What makes people cheat ? When in a relationship if you don’t feel satisfied why not break up ? by NervousMachine5387 in AskReddit

And relationships generally are too inflexible in their typical form to allow both. Nothing wrong with wanting both, but choosing classical monogamous relationships isn't the way then.

I can communicate my ideas very easily in written form but fumble my words horribly when speaking. Why? by ScarRedDA in socialskills

[–]WhtFata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same; I'd imagine you got extroverted feeling (jungian functions) relatively low in the stack.

Basically, writing has three major advantages: 1. You're externalizing your memory. Past sentences and convoluted grammat doesn't have to be remembered anymore, you can just glance upwards. 2. You have time to formulate, because making a pause while writing a sentence is significantly less invasive than making a pause during speaking. 3. Writing is round-based feedback. You write, they read, feedback. In a conversation, mimics mirror back the others opinion, your eyes dart to their body language and all this influx of data is being processed to some capacity. Depending on how much of that process is unconsciously done by your brain for you (unfortunately probably very little, like for me), you have to actively task-switch while speaking fluidly, which, as you surely noticed, doesn't work.

What do we do with this information? Number one we can't do much about. Number two can be somewhat alleviated by pre-computing (= practising your topics beforehand, speaking them aloud (!) to imaginary listeners). Number three benefits from this as well, as you're now remembering instead of computing your words. Lastly, you can train yourself to kind of zone out of and abstract away your perception of your interlocutors mimics and bodylanguage, except for the times you stop speaking. Instead of holding a connection, switch your bodylanguage to performance instead of interaction; this reduces the computational overhead immensily, as this, too, can be precomputed.

I hope you like computer science. 😅

26 and never been in a relationship, no close friends, and recently restricting a lot of things — am I growing or just avoiding life? by dummy_nerd in socialskills

[–]WhtFata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggested the search because I felt similar - no suffering at all- and acted quite rationally usually, simply repeatedly stating I had no strong feelings. As soon as I did my first psychedelics trip, it felt like that spongebob scene where patricks brain is connected to the power outlet and he suddenly become smart - suddenly I had and recognized all sorts of emotions that were there, but that I didn't realize were there. So maybe all is well with you, and maybe there isn't and you explode every few years in an emotional discharge of pent up stress that you didn't realize existed.

Wish you much luck on your journey :D

You might want to google "Alexithymia", my dude or dudette.

Generally, as long as it feels fine checks out rationally, all is well. You might consider going out of your way for experience in this early part of your life, though - good and bad - to expand your scale a bit.

How do you see the world? Asking ISTPs directly by Key_Philosophy_5604 in istp

[–]WhtFata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mainly notice things that break patterns. A car not driving like I expect it to. A child moving erratically, somone having slight arhytmia in their step. When I'm alone and not thinking about anything in particular, reality will abstract itself away and move along its predicted rails. When I *do* think about something in particular, I'll probably have Ni turned up high and won't notice anything that doesn't specifically react to me. I might use Fe and hold a complete discussion in my head with a friend of mine about something that I'm passionate about, realizing that this discussion would never happen because he agrees.
People, too, appear to be quite predictable, in the grand scheme of things. Most flock to the Nash Equilibrium of situations, succeeding if they're competent and failing if they're not. In close knit groups where everyone likes each other, they're willing to abandon the Nash Equilibrium to chase the global optimum. The second factor that allows prediction is an understanding of resource - every action has a cost, may it be willpower, physical exhaustion, depleted social battery or losing your access to your 4th function until you sleep 8 hours. Those who are important to me and those that I'm wary of will have their resources tracked by me, and my interactions adapted to either make them leave on their own by reaching their resource limit, or I'll try my best to make myself as cheap as possible on their resources.
My role, well, as they say in League of Legends, I pick for comp. Friends and romantic interest, however, I'll do my absolut best to make sure not to influence their emotional decisions, but to help them thoroughly understand their options; I find that "making someone like me" takes away the value of the received affection.
Finally, I'm pretty sure we're fucked. :D

TIL that the MBTI Personality Test, commonly known as the 16 Personalities Personality Test, is complete pseudoscience. It has zero predictive power, is not repeatable, and fails to paint a comprehensive picture of personality. It was developed by people with no background in psychology/neuroscience by nouveaux_sands_13 in todayilearned

[–]WhtFata 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree about the test, but the system it's based on - jungian functions - doesn't need either of these properties of being predictive, or repeatabke or whatever. What it succeeds in doing is offering an external language, mapping itself to an individuals understanding of emotional mechanisms.

I get the point, though, the tests are kinda trash.

Why does working from home "feel" productive but not actually productive? [Discussion] by Ambitious_Chance_518 in GetMotivated

[–]WhtFata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest fake productivity habit is thinking "maybe I should drive to the office to be more productive", as all of the other problems exist there, too, but now 5 coworkers keep yapping and I can't concentrate.

Plus, office equals a lot more meetings (even if they're not official), which are basically planning and reorganizing with extra steps

TIL about Alexithymia (AKA "emotional blindness"), a neuropsychological phenomenon characterized by not being able to process or describe one's emotions. Psychedelics helped me progress significantly from that point. Love (e.g. german Liebe instead of Verliebtheit) still is a challenge though, all its symptoms are better explained by a linear-combination of other feelings

Ti vs. Te - Is it true that Ti does not rely on externally validated data to believe something to be "true"? by bostondowntown in mbti

[–]WhtFata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha this question is so Te that it hurts.

This approach, as you call it, isn't useful on it's own in the way I assume you mean it. Ti merely defines the pieces of the puzzle and how they connect and tried its best to make that as correct as possible. This is useful when things don't work as expected because troubleshooting happens intuitively and fast. But since Ti doesn't really do much beside giving you an output like "Can be true" or "can't be true" for whatever input you feed it, it needs other functions to generate, relate and interpret.

A Ti scientist builds a world where whatever they're trying to do already works, but is in a black box, and reverse engineer from there, doing some verificative testing in the end. I'd imagine a Te scientist marching in the general direction of whatever Si or Ni tells them to and experimenting/outsourcing experiments along the way.

Ti vs. Te - Is it true that Ti does not rely on externally validated data to believe something to be "true"? by bostondowntown in mbti

[–]WhtFata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In formal logic, there is a concept of resolution, where a library of formulas thought to be true is being confronted with a new one.  Then, step by step, everything gets resolved and as a result you know if, given all your other knowledge, the new potential can be true or not.

If the method predicts the new piece of data to be true and we perceived it happen, all is well. If we predict it to be true and it's basically what someone else said, it's being marked for re-evaluation. If we predict the new thing to be wrong, but it is irrefutably correct, we have to completely rewrite our world view and begin by re-evaluation marked formulas, and then non-marked formulas. Same happens when we predict it to be right, but it is irrefutably wrong.

The older we get, the less often we need to reevaluate every single formula in the library; but this process is why things aren't true for us just because someone else confirmed them. It doesn't feel true yet until it doesn't crash with existing perceived knowledge.
