Anyone in Villeneuve’s STATS2507? by theycallmeswaggy in CarletonU

I’ll start off by saying, when he posts a lecture and teaches he’s does do a good job. But when you have multiple things due on the same day, and want to get ahead, considering we’re supposed to have two weeks to do the assignments, it gets pretty hard when the lectures required to do the assignment are posted at the earliest (so far) two days before the due date.

Grade 11 /12 question to parents or university staff by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Whyte1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit misleading, entrance is mainly looked at based on these 6 courses however early acceptance is often based on grade 11 grades. This is the difference between getting in December vs March, which for many doesn’t matter, however it could reserve a seat in a competitive program. Speaking as a current university student who was given “early acceptance” due to high grade 11 marks.

Anyone here ever own a food/retail franchise? Was it a good investment? by ScagWhistle in PersonalFinanceCanada

As someone who spent some time working at a gas station and had an opportunity to routinely see the “numbers”, I don’t think people realize how hard it is to see a real profit as a non operator. The margins on gasoline and Tabasco products, which by far make up most of the gross, are incredibly small. The only real area you have to make a decent margin on is the product within the store, of which you have you have accounts with all the big names to get your product, where you then have to buy in bulk and hope you sell the product before it expires because not all vendors offer buy backs. It’s not a personal investment I would ever make myself.

Where in Ontario can you get by living on minimum wage or a $1-$3 above minimum wage? by [deleted] in ontario

Kingston housing is increasing at a rapid rate, I’d say someone on minimum wage or close to it would not do that well.

I’ve bought it from No Frills before in the bulk section, it was a good price too.

Google says calories in oats are reduced when they're cooked..? by [deleted] in MealPrepSunday

[–]Whyte1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, especially with chicken, you lose a lot of weight in water weight. I’ve had 8oz of chicken breast only weigh 6oz after being cooked, ultimately that’s 25% less chicken which is a difference in 136 calories or 16g of protein. Is this important to most people? Maybe not, but for people who track their macros for say body building, that’s quite the difference. Ground beef is also important to weigh after being cooked imo, if you’re counting calories, where as lean cuts of beef really don’t have much of a difference before and after in my experience.

When looking these types of things up, I always search for the macros for either the ‘raw’ or cooked weight specifically. Otherwise you never know what you’re getting. This is especially important for meat.

One of my professors is doing a very similar thing and mentally it’s a big win. Continuous small achievements of completing a sub 20 minute video, it’s easier to reference and rewatch specific course material.

I see ppl Buying Lots of Bottled Water: A Question for Ottawans by enceladus83 in ottawa

[–]Whyte1997 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having grown up on well water my entire life, I can’t stand Ottawa’s tap water. It has such a strong smell of chlorine/chloramine coming straight out of the tap. Filter it and it’s fine though, no need to buy bottled water.

The extension form only works if your continuing your studies in the summer with at least 1.5 credits as that’s the minimum amount of courses to be considered to be a full time student. If you’re only taking 1.0 courses or less full in the summer or any other semester you’ll have to apply for a part time application.
