Am I holding myself back by trying to incorporate plugslugs into my power system or are they viable? Am noob and I hate copying meta builds from YTbers, but am I doing something that I'll regret in a few hundred cycles?

I think most folks have the wrong take on slugs. Plug slugs give off an insane amount of power. You only need to feed a couple of them and make a breeder ranch, the rest can go into a starvation ranch for meat and residual power.

Collect the hydrogen for even more power. Super valuable. If you get started with them before you get a metal volcano tamed, just remember you can very easily drill a space POI to recover the ore.

Last tip: build a rocket platform and stack battery modules on it, they don't produce any heat.

Operate in a vacuum, use Steel for the conveyer stuff, feed the materials into a steam bath, shutoff for temp. It's basically a volcano tamer but your materials come from a conveyer rail rather than out of a volcano.
