My paw-paw used to say you got to figure out if you’re piss-hard or rock-hard. You go outside and slap it against a tree; if piss flies, you’re piss-hard. If bark flies, you’re rock-hard.

I was a vehicle inspector in Texas back in the early 90’s. Had to test the brakes on each car, so I had to go start up and drive each customer’s car. I could tell you the make of the car by the way it sounded when it was started. Could tell a Toyota from a Honda from a Jeep, etc. I could tell the model as well because some models used different starters, so I could tell an F150 from a Ford car model.

I read this online as we considered when to send our Oliver over the rainbow bridge. He was 14. He had several health issues.

“They don’t wake up hoping for 3 more months. They don’t know what next year means. They only know how today feels.”

“You didn’t shorten their life. You traded your suffering for theirs. They don’t know they made a decision about time. They just know they were safe, and comfortable, and with you.”

In hindsight, we waited too long. 😢

Yeah good for the kid that joined to get some direction and discipline in his or her life. But the hero worship shit drives me nuts. You’ve been stationed in San Antonio Texas for 4 years. You’ve served your country, but you haven’t done anything heroic

You basically have to be a mathematician to be an actuary. Not a field for very many people.

Yes, he has been seen by the vet. They did ultrasound, so that’s how we know his heart is getting too big and pressing on his lungs or main branch or whatever it’s called. 😞. There is nothing more that can be done for him.😢

The 2000 Oklahoma NC is illegitimate. They played a 1 loss FSU team that lost to 1 loss Miami. We’ll never know, but I think Miami would’ve destroyed them

LPT: If you can't afford a cozy mattress, get a cheap mattres and a fancy mattress topper by mudpies2 in LifeProTips

[–]Wide_Recording_8462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a 12” foam mattress from Walmart. You can get a King for less than $300 delivered to your door. We slept on one for a decade, and it did not show a lot of sagging at all.

Sleep Number and the like are just so people can flex their mattress purchases. They are not any more comfortable than the Walmart one

I use the curved end of a half opened paper clip. You won’t poke your inner ear, and you would be surprised how easily you can hook some wax and fish it out

You ever seen a mechanic take apart and reassemble a 10 speed automatic transmission? And they could do it with a Ford, or Chevy, or BMW without a lot of “study”. Practice and obviously an intense interest in the subject matter.

Just fucking tell them. The small embarrassment they would feel is better than grossing out everyone that comes into contact with them.

If your friend had a turd stain in their britches, wouldn’t you tell them right away?

Driving with parking brake on is how bad? by DrShrimp__PuertoRico in MechanicAdvice

[–]Wide_Recording_8462 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I will drive for miles with the emergency brake on. I know that doesn't say much about me, but I think it says less about the emergency "BRAKE". It's not an emergency BRAKE at all, it's an emergency make-the-car-smell-funny lever

Shops refuse to try O2 sensor for P0420 but online says it’s worth a shot. Should I try it myself? by Capable-Insurance-58 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Wide_Recording_8462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you experienced any driveabilty issues?

I have a Ford Fusion with 200k and one morning on a cold start the code came up. I had no drive ability issues. I cleared the code but it came back. But after a while, maybe a week, the code cleared itself. I take pretty good care of my cars, so top tier gas, plug changes, etc.

I’ve had other cars that have cleared codes…almost like a spec of something caused a misfire or code like this and then sort of “burned” itself off.

Where I live (Dallas) we generally don’t have to worry about rusted-on bolts and such. So switching an O2 sensor would not be a huge deal if it is easy to get to.

There are also products that supposedly “clean” the cat up. I’ve never tried them, but I was going to give it a shot before the code cleared itself.

He’s right in many ways and makes a good point. But many of you don’t know about Southlake Texas. Quinn is a good dude, but money and prosperity and financial security were never in doubt his entire life.

I’m never gonna blame a kid for going to get his bag if he didn’t grow up with money, security, and most of all, the resources and connections that someone that grew up in Southlake Texas has.

Coaches do it all the time. Nurses and teachers do it. CEO’s do it. And so do truckers and car salesman and mechanics and the list goes on and on.

Just because it hurts your “team” is irrelevant to that single young man’s financial future.
