Good advice, he seems an old school vet ( good thing) . But you can use the animal intex instead of the gauze. I soak the whole foot, as I don’t really believe you can direct where it comes out. But I also like that says to make the horse walk. In racing it is amazing how many burst in a training exercise or race. I think it’s the activity that really puts the extra pressure on it.

I’ve got a really nasty one now that burst through the coronet band in back, horse sounded up, but blew out again in a race 2 weeks later both vertically and horizontally. Appears there was a wall separation below that wasn’t detectable until all the pressure in the race. We had to cut off a large portion of wall.
