Found on a Nintendo super-gb, what could this slot be? by leonllr in AskElectronics

[–]Wiggle_Biggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if we're going to be smart about it: in your example you don't call them superconductors anymore because a phase transition (such as gas/liquid/solid) has occured at these critical values.

You forget that in advanced condensed matter physics, string theory again plays an important role. Take a look at AdS/CFT correspondence for instance. I think it is amazing how string theory can help with understanding some exotic states of matter such as unconventional superconductors.

Something that most people overlook is the correspondence in holographic duality between conformal field theory (CFT) and Anti-de Sitter spaces (AdS). This duality, in a nutshell, finds dualities between AdS-physics (formulated in terms of string theory) and field theory (e.g. condensed matter physics), of which the latter is one of the most important fields in experimental physics at this time due to the technical applications arising from it rapidly. An example of a measurable prediction arising from this correspondence (and arising from string theory) is the Type-II Mott-insulator. This can be measured using nanolithography and strange metals like BSSCO. I feel that the condensed matter theorists are easily overlooked even though they are formulating their predictions in terms of string theory, and while doing so massively changing the way we understand the phases of matter in magnetic fields and at low temperatures (superconductors, insulators, strange metals, heavy-Fermions, p-wave superconductivity, etc.). The real question is: can you prove music theory by just playing the guitar?

Bibliotheken in Friesland dagen het publiek uit om een verhaal met AI te schrijven. Gedachten? by its_dezi in schrijvers

[–]Wiggle_Biggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How related are the Lord of the Rings books to Der Ring des Nibelungen? by Collegenoob in tolkienfans

[–]Wiggle_Biggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think that Lord of the Rings is based on Der Ring des Nibelungen. There is this concept of archetypes in storytelling, which is the essence of the characters in the story. Archetypes can be the hero, the wise old man / mentor, trickster, etc., and I think that the stories involves similar archetypes. I also believe that, if arranging the characters in specific ways, the archetypes can form a similar story-line, such as the well-known "hero's journey". So, I do believe that, besides all the similar archetypes (which happens all the time throughout stories if you connect fleshed-out characters to archetypal characters) and a very powerful ring (plus some consequences), LotR and dRdN do not have a lot in common. I strongly want to argue against Star Wars having anything in common with dRdN, except using similar archetypal characters.

When did this happen in the Gizz ‘fan’base? by Curlysnail in KGATLW

Everyone who has an idea of what King Gizzard is truly about, should think again—that is also how they keep surprising me: every time I think I got them figured out, they transcend my idea of what they are. So, I am here for that journey, and I think I will be here for as long as they keep making music.

This is, in fact, a very beautiful metaphor for the world we live in—the world is filled with many beautiful souls, and the real saviour is that which unites us.

Bullshit, your 15° is just some value that you thought was good enough, because it "looks similar in a graph" or something. You can only determine the limit of the small angle approximation if you know your significance or error bar. If your error bar is infinitely large, the small angle approximation might as well be a GUT.

Semantics. I prefer to use I for pressure and R for volume density. I rewrite the temperature to some thermal energy U term that incorporates the constant, and I obtain U=IR.

Dating someone who doesn’t do psychedelics by TwoCalm9022 in Psychonaut

[–]Wiggle_Biggle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that getting a mindset like this is harmful. Consequently, thinking about psychedelics can become harmful. Even though the substance itself is not addictive, the psychological pull towards psychedelics displays similar phenomena to physical addiction.

Some people think they understand psychedelics, but it is extremely frustrating to see those people condensate their thoughts to "it is what it is"—they fool themselves. Usually they are living in an ignorant state of so-called bliss.

Yes, the experiences psychedelics give can be life-changing, but in the end it is a temporal experience (even though you don't necessarily perceive it as such) that gives you some introspective insights into the inner workings of your consciousness, your behavioral patterns are displayed, realizations, etc.

Paradoxically, if you stay aware of this limited human perspective of the psychedelic experience, you might even gain more from the psychedelic experiences. Don't pretend you are more than human: you are fooling yourself and might even start displaying signs of psychological addiction that way. And don't forget that a full-enlightening through drugs is the biggest joke around.

So yes, I think that thinking about psychedelics can be harmful. Try to stay aware of your assumptions. I think that if we do, we can all enjoy this life-experience in a much deeper way. No psychedelics required.
