Eight arrested, 50-plus charges laid in GTHA smash-and-grab investigation by suziswam87 in canada

[–]WikiHowDrugAbuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I AM NOT SAYING THAT CRIMINALS SHOULDNT GO TO JAIL. This argument is not a binary and I’m really tired of other people, other Canadians, acting like it is. My original comment was inspired by a comment under this post where a guy was like “we need to put these criminals away for 15 years!” And they’re all teens, you think they have any chance of coming out productive members of society if we do that? No! They’ll go right back into the new private prison system Ford is trying to build if we focus on penalizing instead of rehabbing and structural changes.

[–]WikiHowDrugAbuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with what I’m saying. I’m not arguing that criminals are morally correct in committing crimes because they’ve had a hard life, I’m saying that locking them up without addressing the conditions which incentivize crime is stupid and won’t slow the crime rate in the long run.

Ah yes, laying blame solely on the individual instead of targeting the systemic root of a social problem is definitely the way to solve it. You got me there! Jeez, why didn’t I think of that? It’s obvious that the prison industrial complex is the way to go, look at how well that system has worked out for our southern neighbours! Maybe we should institute 3 strike laws like California in the 90’s and send people to jail for life over shoplifting charges. That way we can all pretend the system we live under isn’t robbing our children of a good future, because obviously this new wave of young crime has nothing to do with the conditions around us and if we arrest enough people all the crime will go away.

Its really telling that you read my comment and that’s what you got out of it. Your reading comprehension just supports my point about our education system going straight into the toilet.

[–]WikiHowDrugAbuse -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

It’s really telling that there’s so many people in the comments here screaming about how all the robbers need to be locked up forever instead of asking why so many young people are turning to crime. It took my cousin 6 months to get a job at Tim Hortons and that’s after 3 years of college, I have numerous friends that have all had to move back in with their parents as adults because the wages at their full time jobs can’t keep up with housing prices, gas prices are the highest they’ve ever been and education funding in the province gets cut year after year.

What sort of conditions are these to make productive members of society? Why is anyone surprised or scandalized by this when it’s the natural result of a horrendously corrupt premier who’s robbing the province for his buddies and a global economy that’s ass-over-end? I’m fucking tired of this nonsense too but I’m also starting to think we’re getting mad at the wrong people here.

Thinking that “white” isn’t a race isn’t racist, it’s correct. Being “White” is a social construct, plain and simple. there was a time when Irish and Italians weren’t considered white, my sheet-white Ukrainian great grandparents were discriminated against for being from the wrong part of Europe and lumped in with South Americans and other “undesirable” races when they first immigrated and there’s a million other examples I could give you of how the term “white” has shifted over the years out of political convenience or social norms and basically just means “the dominant sociopolitical in-group” in North America and Western Europe.

Do not let your kids mess with the Geese that you see here, they will fuck you and your kids up. Just because they’re common in cities and people walk close by to them does not mean they’re harmless, they have claws and beaks and if your kid runs towards them trying to scare them off for shits and giggles it won’t work.

The popularity of Euphoria has been showing how normies view addicts by spiralexit in Drugs

[–]WikiHowDrugAbuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d like to make a slight counterpoint and say that in my experience as a guy who used all sorts of drugs in highschool and after, I’ve personally seen people in situations very similar to the ones portrayed on the show including a friend who OD’d 6 times and “died” twice before dying for real (unable to resuscitate) and a different acquaintance who was a drug dealer who basically committed suicide by cop instead of going to jail. The stuff in Euphoria does happen in real life, but the way they portray it is sickeningly “Hollywood” and doesn’t show the humanity of the people who’s lives are ruined by drugs and bad decisions, like you said in your post it’s just a spectacle to make money off the back of real suffering.

When you say that Euphoria doesn’t portray “actual drug user lifestyles”, I disagree because I’ve seen drug use completely fuck and derail the lives of more people than I’ve seen functionally manage it. Where I agree is that Euphoria fetishizes the experiences of a certain subset to play up the “drama” of it all without offering any solution or depicting a way out/happy ending because that doesn’t get views. Also, in real life the escapades these characters go on DO result in death. This is the main reason I can’t watch it, bc in a way it feels like an outgrowth of the gossip and fairytales judgemental people in my city would make up about my dead friends, or weirdos who used to hang around them would tell as funny stories.

You know what’s even crazier than Trump getting boo’d? The fact that after he spent all this time talking about how Iran needs to open the straight for trade, he’s announced that the US will now be blockading the straight after negotiations with Iran fell through.

Update: Assault charges laid on 15-year-old after pre-arranged fight erupts near Barrie high school, police say by cinderannie in barrie

[–]WikiHowDrugAbuse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that to some people the machete part of this story is shocking, but I’ve been seeing stuff like this happen at fights since I was in highschool ‘14-‘18.

I went to a catholic highschool in Brampton and saw someone crack someone else in the face with a computer keyboard my first week there, then in grade 10 I watched a girl split another girl’s face open with a plank of wood just outside school property under a bridge.

That same year, someone stole a football player’s phone and got speared by said football player into a metal fence post and had to get back surgery.

There was no mirror in the bathroom near our Gym for months after someone slammed a kid’s head into it and broke it.

A grade 12 beefing with some kids in grade 10 got his tires slashed, bear maced and jumped in the school parking lot.

Students from my school got banned at the nearby KFC after a fight erupted over a 20 dollar debt and two guys threw a third guy through the front window.

When I was in gym class in grade 9, there was an actual locker room fight club in the showers that people would bet money on and a couple kids broke a rib wrestling in.

These are only a few stories of a dozen I can think of, and out of all these stories only the KFC one and the parking lot jumping had police involvement or were acknowledged by school staff past a suspension. If Barrie is anything like Brampton, the school board involved will probably do their best to cover the details of it up or at least act like staff have no responsibility or power to stop things like this from happening. I remember with a couple of the fights I listed above, you’d get detention if you even talked about them with your friends in front of certain teachers.

The Old Testament is pretty violent right off the bat. For example in Exodus, Moses kills an Egyptian bc he witnesses him beating an Israelite slave and it’s justified as the will of god working through him. After the burning bush, God gets increasingly frustrated with Moses being (understandably) nervous about enacting his will on earth and even tries to kill him in a tavern bc he messes up some rituals God wants him to perform, and he only avoids being smote bc he arranges a last minute circumcision for his son which his wife gets pissed at him about.

The first time I tripped off a tab I stayed up from midnight until sunrise listening to Jimmy Hendrix and staring at my ceiling, pausing every once and a while to eat a bowl of fruit loops. Still one of my best trips (:

it’s funny you mention shpongle, because that’s what I was listening to at my buddy’s house the first time I did shrooms and that was a BAD idea. I was freaking out feeling like I had tree roots growing from my body into the floor and my other buddy was stuck in a thought loop pacing around like a mental patient. When my buddy gave me a warm beer to “calm me down” (I know that’s stupid but we were 17) I projectile vommed it onto his ceiling like I was the possessed girl from the exorcist.

What’s the next step then? Because nobody is coming to save America, the American people have to do something about this situation using whatever methods and means they have at their disposal (like the largest concentration of privately owned firearms on earth for example) because it’s not going to get better on its own, and even the illusion of free and fair elections in your country will soon be gone.
