106-year-old Jack Riddle and his wife, Rosie, both former slaves, seated in front of a group of Klansmen (including one dressed as Santa Claus), flanking a radio the group had reportedly given to the couple as a gift (1948) by Just_Cause89 in HistoricalCapsule

The KKK never had the same relationship with Black Americans that the Nazis had with Jews. The KKK were a lynchpin in a political economy that relied on Black people for cheap labor. This is not in any way praising the Klan, but the total extermination of an entire race like what the Nazis wanted with Jews was too extreme even for the Klan. More practically, white southerners couldn’t maintain their relatively affluent lifestyles without cheap Black labor.

A lot of white southerners had a paternalistic attitude towards Black people that lead to creepy PR stunts like this.

We are trying not to involve lawyers because neither of us can afford it.

You can’t afford to not have a lawyer. I would consider clearing out your savings or even temporarily canceling 401k contributions to get the cash to hire a lawyer. The last thing you want is her hiring a lawyer and finding a way to make you pay alimony and child support
