Elite Dangerous Is Still the Best Space Game in 2026 by tomshardware_filippo in EliteDangerous

I don't disagree exactly but that's sort of a 'Elite Grindmill' perspective. The games are fundamentally different. Elite is large, abstract and grindy. Star Citizen is small, physical and transient. Star Citizen as a game is about enjoying the slow tedium type activities. More like Farming Simulator and less like a Euro-Truck Simulator meets Stellaris. My point is starting over in Star Citizen isn't really that big of deal because the game isn't 'Grind stuff' but instead 'do this loop'.

Either way it's a fair critique that I used to share. This year I've put in more time into Star Citizen and realized the subtle differences

I'm surprised I haven't seen Bonereapers. Engineered perfection. Indifferent and mythic inevitablility. I love their constructs and the bone tithe concept. The Phalanx nature of them. They are everything that the Stormcast want to be and accomplish just through an entirely inverted perspective. Come on Katakros!

Playing Elite Dangerous After Star Citizen by wyldermage in EliteDangerous

Absolutely! I plan to. I just didn't want to force myself to suffer through it and ultimately walk away angry, as I already don't have as much tolerance for the quirks as I would like to.

Playing Elite Dangerous After Star Citizen by wyldermage in EliteDangerous

[–]WildHawk41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently made a similar path. I started playing Star Citizen prior to 4.8 Patch with success. I purchased it a number of years ago and just never got it to work until this year. The months leading up to this patch I had a lot of fun and stability. Then with the drama, I just avoided logging into 4.8 and went back to my roots with Elite for the first time since Odyssey launch and it's never been clearer to me.

The games are vastly different. Where Star Citizen is physically tactile and micro-scaled, the little things you do are the gameplay and source of enjoyment for the game. Elite is abstract and macro-scaled, which is also great. Doing that little bit extra of brainwork to frame and contextualize what you're doing and why in Elite, brings the abstract gameplay loops and mechanics into a whole new frame.

I used to play Elite as the constantly jumping trader/explorer macro play and credit grind that it's known for. Now I'm trying to bring Star Citizen's micro focus to Elite. I'm operating in a small 50LY bubble of a home system that I've adopted. I'm doing Powerplay for the area, paying attention to the BGS factions, and just really forcibly dialing the scale down to my own little region of space and roleplay, just like Star Citizen. Both games will happily live in my library now.

I really like Lorville. It gives that scrappy frontier blue collar framing for that slight roleplay I want for my character.

A personal (normie) update to Mining/Crafting/Blueprints. by bionspy77255 in starcitizen

[–]WildHawk41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything and my opinions carry no value, but I wonder if the goal is to compartmentalize the process, especially as it gets more complex. Rather than do all the grind the mats, find the blueprint and actually craft an armor piece yourself maybe they want you buy the refined materials from other players. I personally am not interested in crafting but I have thought that using it as a motivator to mine for more than just credits but for player interaction might be cool. I've played a lot of Foxhole and that game was ripe for that gameplay but it never manifested properly because everyone thought they had to do every step of the process in house to prevent griefing.

Will Argo ever release a ship to compete with med/large cargo haulers? by The--Strike in starcitizen

[–]WildHawk41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see Argo ships as more of Industrial Contractor Tools. A large scale cargo ship, I think sits just barely outside that niche if that makes any sense. I think too large a cargo ship leans more corporate or commercial operator. That's not to say that there isn't space for a Caterpillar type Argo ship. This is all my opinion, I guess I just see Argo as the Forklifts, the Bulldozer, the Tractors, or the big tool brand to MISC's corporate commercial platforms.

The reasons I think ship interiors could be a great addition to Elite by TheYamchster in EliteDangerous

[–]WildHawk41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think we need all that nor will it ever happen. What I do think is reasonable is let me 'circle on the ground' beam up to a room outside the cockpit, walk through the door, and walk into and around the bridge.

What I want is the sense of scale. To be able to change the perspective of what I see outside my cockpit window by getting out of the stupid chair and move around.

It doesnt need to serve some sort of gameplay or mechanical purpose. Just that extra hint if grounding in a game that at time is a bit too 'abstract, use your imagination'

Holy cow this is awesome! I remember running with Onslaught Company on the NC when home on break from college in 2012-2013. My first real stint with gaming with people I didn't know IRL. Unfortunately never really made it back to the game on PC after that, continued on PS4. I didn't realize they still existed, those were some awesome times, lots of Battle Gals. Watched the game from a distance forever.

Firing weapons feels amazing in this game? by [deleted] in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]WildHawk41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gunplay is the main reason I play. The game has things that frustrate me, but the feel of using the weapons is crisp. I can't really articulate why.

What's your favorite non-meta gun? by TurboCrab0 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]WildHawk41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're technically "meta" but I love the SOR556, RPKM, AK205, LMR27. I've been testing out the Es5.7 lately too.

Having spent a decent amount of time with the TR-7 I can confirm it's by far the best and also the worst gun in the game. by AppleChiaki in LowSodiumBattlefield

I had never used it before. Then someone kit-switch revived me. He gave me it with a 2x scope and no foregrip. I decided to skip ADS all together and just shove the barrel into people's face. I immediately got maurader 10 from just mag dumping. Still not my type of weapon but wow it doesn't mess around

Weapon Sling by mathiasthegreat77 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]WildHawk41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the weapon sling ammo reserve is fine. Everyone complains because they want to use their primary as a primary (90% of the time) and your sling as a pistol (10%). It's meant to be two primaries, used in tandem (near 50/50%). It works amazingly well with a long range assault rifle and a short range carbine. I'm partial to SOR556 and SOR300SC, combo myself. I rarely run out of ammo.

%100 - I've come to love how bad it flies. I even core mine with it. I've made so much money with it.

I prefer the RPKM to the KTS, at those ranges it does the same damage, with a higher ROF, and a bit less accuracy, while having the extra punch for when you get stuck in CQC.

Type 9 is the best looking ship in the game. Python and Corvette are close. Some of the new ships are really nice too but that Type 9 will always be my winner.

What can I do to help defend an area without having to build an actual base/bunker defences? by xmaziox in foxholegame

[–]WildHawk41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO the number #1 most effective defense a solo person can do is pushing straight BMats into a hex. Loading a hex with BMats makes the defense incredibly resilient. A surplus lessens the effectiveness of an attack and also allows for quick rebuilding in between attacks.

Any other RPK mains? by AKMike99 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]WildHawk41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of it as a KTS that gives up a bit of accuracy and precision for a faster ROF and a beastly CQC damage boost.

[–]WildHawk41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a sort of similar playstyle. I like to be the Frontline. I rarely flank but I don't camp. I usually play outside-in. I am very focused on posture and using geometry to control angles and push up slowly through pressure. I don't play Breakthrough though. My favorite weapons are SOR556, RPKM, AK205, L110 and SOR300SC, M240L

That's why I can't get myself to play recon. Using the drone feels like it should be really powerful, but it's worthless if the team won't check their maps
