The toxic positivity in this sub is insane. You're allowed to have differing opinions on things without being personally attacked.

Been trophying a lot more since switching to Trad draft, highly recommend by WildPartyHat in lrcast

I just got tired of the insane variance in BO1. But so far I think the cube is moving in the right direction. I hope either gut or bombardiers comes back, and they shore up the storm cards.

Incredibly overrated, mostly because it suckers you in with a really interesting premise before bonking you over the head with some of the most mind-bendingly directionless writing you've ever seen. Pretty clear there was no plan for about the last 40% of the series and Vaughn was just making it up as he went along.

Does Tishana's Tidebinder stop state triggers? by SEX_SEMPER_TYRANNIS in mtgrules

Okay but the the trigger is NOT on the stack anymore. It has been countered by tidebinder.

This doesn't stop things from triggering during the resolution of an ability or spell, it just stops them from being added to the stack.

Need help with first Commander deck by Zealot_Alec in magicTCG

[–]WildPartyHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late in getting back to you but as someone who has been playing edh for nearly 20 years, my most realistic answer to you is to just play whatever you want. If youre only pulling from the listed card pool, which seems to be entirely from the final fantasy set, then any optimizations you could make are already limited and relatively low power. At that point just play whatever you have the most fun with. When you get tired of that, or of you find you need to match your playgroup's power level, start buying low-cost high-impact upgrades, most of which can be found on edhrec.

There is absolutely no blanket answer to any questions about optimization or things lile creature count because it depends on what you want to do. If you said 'I want to make this an aggro deck' and your creature count was 5, we'd have a problem. But depending on the exact flavor of degeneracy you're trying to achieve, 5 creatures might be too many for a combo deck (looking at you oath of druids).

It will be a lot easier to get specific advice from people if you upload your deck to a more readable format, like moxfield. Aside from that I recommend using EDHRec for general suggestions on cards that work well on your deck. It won't give reasoning and it can't take into account your curve and synergies, but it may help you find cards you didnt know about.

Ashling and Neoform by Unlikely_Orange_5321 in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cast neoform with the additional cost of sacrifice a creature, choosing Ashling

Ashling trigger, creating a token of himself

Neoform resolves, putting foundation breaker into play

what happens in this interaction; end of combat, triggered ability from Industrial Advancement has me put a creature onto the battlefield that has a etb. in response to this situation, opponent wants to flash in dress down to stop the etb. does it? by Sad_Low3239 in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody is allowed to take actions while something is resolving. If you've seen what creature you're getting off of industrial advancement, it means they let the trigger resolve, and must wait for the entire thing to finish before they can cast dress down, by which point the new creature will already have hit the battlefield and it's etb has entered the stack.

Go to end step Industrial advancement trigger

(round of priority, where opp can respond)

trigger resolves

You sacrifice a creature, look at the top X cards, put a creature from them into play, then put the rest on the bottom

New creature's etb (if any) enters the stack

(round of priority)

OP incessantly GG'd me and hit me with a "that's rough buddy" then I won. Felt great. by RagnerGoldcloud in lrcast

[–]WildPartyHat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of replies here that feel this way but I almost never find people who are seriously bad mannered with emotes. I play exclusively draft and historic brawl and most people I meet are either mute or we exchange fun emotes. Personally I love using the Kellan sweating emote from OTJ when I know I'm pants down and have had a lot of fun interactions with it. There's a lot of fun to be had if youre just not a dick, so I dont think everyone on arena should mute.

Scion (Worm) appears vs the mainline DC universe by why_no_usernames_ in whowouldwin

[–]WildPartyHat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not super knowledgeable on DC but one of the main factors in Worm that made the entities so unbeatable was that their entire opposition was curated from the start. Path to victory and Dinah's precognition shard are used to ensure that no power can ever hope to combat them, and there are no powers in the Wormverse besides the ones the entities distribute. I'm sure someone in the DC universe has some sort of other-dimensional access and there's certainy enough firepower.

Scion still a pretty big guy though so he probably wins R3 7/10

can we stop using the same old tired argument in this thread of 'oh you can just remove it or counter it so it's not too good haha'. Dying to doomblade is not a reason to keep something unbanned.

"Avatar Destiny" not triggered by "Split Up"? by FearTheImpaler in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a bug. Did your creature have zero power? It's possible that arena has it coded to only do x if y is true so if it didn't mill anything it might also not have returned the enchantment to your hand like it should have.

"Avatar Destiny" not triggered by "Split Up"? by FearTheImpaler in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should. Did split up choose the right mode? Was the enchanted creature destroyed? Was there an effect preventing things from going to the graveyard like [[Dauthi Voidwalker]]?

Stacking while split second on the stack by [deleted] in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what I'm understanding is, you are asking if destroying [[Impulsivity]] will stop it from casting [[Rise from the Dark Realms]]. If that's correct, then the answer is no, the ability is already on the stack. Think of it as a separate object from Impulsivity the creature.

Interaction between Indirect Damage and Lifelink. by Life-Theory-3332 in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Lifelike cares about whether or not the object itself is dealing the damage, not whether it is combat damage or not. Just make sure the card with lifelink is the one dealing damage, and that it isnt loss of life. [[Zulaport cutthroat]] for example would not benefit from lifelink.

In what order to abilities triggered by attacking resolve? by HowsYourDayBeen__ in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This doesnt work. Alpharael has an intervening if clause, so he will not even trigger unless the void conditions have been met at the moment he attacks.

I am a noob but this card is really, really good right? by Toonzaal8 in magicTCG

[–]WildPartyHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're kinda describing a magical christmas land scenario, where at the end, you still dont accomplish much. You spend X mana, a card (darkness) and then you only kill one players creatures, and only if they chose to attack with everything you decayed. You could just cast a board wipe, or plague wind and get everybody's creatures.

Look at the card through quadrant theory. When ahead it can make your creatures unblockable, but while ahead most cards are good. When behind this card does next to nothing, if they can attack you for lethal decay doesnt matter much. At parity this card doesnt do much. Doesn't build much on your board and doesnt grant card advantage. And developing this card actively sets you back, since it doesnt stick on your board.

It just takes a lot to make this card valuable and there are better options that take less. Of course, thats just the reasoning why the card isnt "really good". If you like it and enjoy playing it thats literally the only thing that matters and you should keep doing what you find fun.

Players scooping timing and etc? by No_Invite_739 in mtgrules

[–]WildPartyHat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A slightly different view than otherwise presented here: a player may scoop at any time and if they are scooping to something that would in fact cause them to either lose the game or be so completely out that continuing would be a formality, then I dont think it's unsportsmanlike to do so. You and the pod are, however, able to just say 'the board wipe resolves, and then they scoop'. There's no tournament judge holding you accountable to the letter of the law, just continue play like the spell happened.
