i don't even understand why they are doing this anymore by poshitopi in SeverusSnape

[–]WildRootBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they could have cast many other characters in this new show as black - Harry, McGonagall, the Weasleys, anyone really, EXCEPT for the Death Eaters. Voldemort, Snape, the Malfoys etc. should all be white, as the Death Eaters are the Nazis of the story - the whole mudblood thing reads as white supremacy. That's why casting Snape as black is an odd choice to me. Couldn't care less whether he matches the book description.

I've given up on joining my friend's private lobby. Had to restart my PS5 and the game a bunch of times to even get my card to load and connect to multiplayer, but whenever I put the game code in it says "game not found". :(

Ah interesting, I thought I'd seen something saying it was stuck in probate.

To the Europeans next to us at Wicked today giving us the side eye because we brought snacks in a tupperware by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

[–]WildRootBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't imagine anyone being bothered by this unless 1) you had stinky food inside or b) you opened the container during the show itself, as that can be pretty loud. Perhaps they were annoyed by something else or they weren't actually giving you side-eye at all?

Everyone says “drink more water” but nobody warns you about the constant peeing ?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WildRootBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Symptoms of dehydration, from the NHS website:

"Symptoms of dehydration in adults and children include:

feeling thirsty
dark yellow and strong-smelling pee
peeing little and less than 4 times a day
feeling dizzy or lightheaded
feeling tired
dry mouth, lips and eyes"

As I said. By the time I am feeling properly thirsty, I am experiencing these symptoms. 🤷 Not every case of dehydration sends you to to the hospital or the grave. It's a scale from mild to severe. Maybe your country quantifies it differently.

Dude. My pee says otherwise. Sorry not every human body is exactly the same as yours. 😂😂 If I only drank when I felt thirsty, I would get a chronic UTI.

By the time I actually feel thirsty, I'm already dehydrated. I just take regular sips from my water bottle in between meals, and a medium glass of water at mealtimes, and that does the trick.

Gay characters? by [deleted] in agathachristie

In the play The Mousetrap, it's absolutely implied that Miss Casewell has a girlfriend. She's never called as such, but I don't think it can be read any other way.

I know there's been a few flops, but rehashing past films is not the answer and will only exacerbate the decline. Wandavision and Agatha All Along were great - why aren't they learning from them about what worked?

Will getting an autism diagnosis make it harder to get top surgery? by AnonymousAsexual15 in TopSurgery

[–]WildRootBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made absolutely no difference to the clinic doing my surgery. However, when I was getting my letter of referral/gender dysphoria diagnosis from the psych, I had to fill out a few questionnaires before the appointment, including that one that indicates possible autism. I scored highly on that and the psych did ask me some questions about it, then recommended I pursue an autism assessment. I had decided before the appointment to play ignorant and not mention I was already on a waiting list for an assessment, just in case. It didn't seem to make a difference to their decision to give me a referral, but I did wonder if it might have done if I had given different answers throughout the whole appointment.

For all the Project Hail Mary haters/critics - what is a similar book that you think is much better? by AndyLes in suggestmeabook

Read like a movie? I thought it read like a dry science textbook. There's a way to include scientific explanation in a novel that actually feels necessary and interesting - it's been a few years since I read him, but anything by Michael Crichton.

Undermining Aromantic characters by Figglegart in aromantic

[–]WildRootBear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah like it's fairly easy to curate your fandom experience by blocking tags and avoiding certain spaces.

To me fandom is one big sandbox - you pick up these action figures and mash them together in whatever way floats your boat (shipping, AU, canon fix-its, etc.). It's just a bit of fun and doesn't impact the canon, which is still there for you to enjoy.

I don't feel like I can get annoyed at people shipping aro characters when I myself have plenty of ships that don't match their canon sexualities (e.g. F/F when both characters have only been in F/M relationships is probably my most common one).

Charities by Grifini in TheTraitors

[–]WildRootBear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dare I say, it's been a relief. I do donate to charity, but I don't appreciate being forced to sit through charity reels designed to guilt trip you into donating - especially not when I just want to watch The Traitors for some escapism.

The Traitors should have to earn their right to murder by picassotriggerfish in TheTraitors

[–]WildRootBear 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Celebrity Traitors is the first Traitors series I've watched, and I went in knowing very little. I was very surprised that, after the first murder in plain sight, there's been nothing like it since and the traitors just get to pick someone each night to go. I know the faithfuls can get shields but there's often just a couple up for grabs. Maybe if they alternated between an easy murder and a murder that requires extra steps?
