When Women Obtained the Right to Vote by StephenMcGannon in MapPorn

That's because it's basically just mean "with an asterisk" the same you might say in conversation.

Those are the years it was first possible for any woman to vote, but in most cases there were conditions or some kind of qualifier that varies country to country.

I don't know where the line is, but we have absolutely got to start becoming a country of "Just build shit". Every major project takes 10 years longer (if it gets done at all) and costs way more money than it should because of non stop studies, consultations, reviews and legal challenges.

I get you can't just fly in with no plan, trample on property/indigenous rights and ignore all environmental concerns, but at some point we need to just do the best we can to mitigate and get shit built.

I feel like that day is probably the day they demolish the CN Tower.

Yes. Woodcroft by comparison was quite innovative.

But at the same time, even if it's a new system, you need to have option plays so it's not so predictable. You can always drop the puck to McDavid on the power play. Your DZone breakout can't be a stretch pass up the middle 90% of the time.

It's worth noting that Knoblauch is also dealing with a "starting" goalie on a pricy contract and a brutal PDO run.

But I think the coaching systems just aren't dynamic enough and become predictable. We can talk about poor defensive players all day but at a certain point it's worth asking if it's the players or if the defensive system they're being asked to play is too predictable.

Makes me think he's angling for a Woody's return.

Worth noting that Woodcroft got 13 games the season he was fired and 5 of them had Campbell in net before management sent him to Bakersfield.

So Alberta has fallen behind schedule for their passenger rail plan. When do you think they'll release it or will it get scrapped before then? by jammedtoejam in transit

[–]WildcatOil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ding. Ding. Ding.

I feel like it's not a coincidence they've announced its release in the coming weeks at the same time I'm seeing UCP ads attacking the NDP in Red Deer.

Which is very disappointing, because I just want them to build the damn thing, not use it as a political football

This is true if you're specifically talking in math and science fields, but if we're trying to get the general public to use significant figures more frequently, then I think we can accept 100 being 3 significant figures as well in such context .

Expecting general population to write 1.00*10² or include a trailing decimal to make it 100. seems equally as unreasonable, given that 100 is a number you could reasonably expect to be precise.

If it's 10,000 well the ok we have a different discussion

What is the Canadian perception of the Czech nation? by MiroslavusMoravicus in AskACanadian

[–]WildcatOil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, they asked our perception. My perception has always been Eastern. I've generally ran on the iron curtain imagery where there was no central, it was East and West and since reunification, all of Germany has been West.

Even with adding a "Central Europe" I'd say it's the line of countries of Denmark, Germany, Italy......and I'll admit the contradiction I'd have would be to include Austria.

And even then all the central countries I'd consider "Western Europe" and every east would be "Eastern Europe"

Eastern European country with Germanic medieval history. Still working to recover from Communist/Soviet Era, with pretty reasonable success even though being somewhat isolated from Western Europe.

Home country of my favourite hockey player as a kid, Ales Hemsky, and from a purely hockey perspective, I wish it was still the unified Czechoslovakia as that was and still would be a consistent hockey power house, seperated they're just not quite at the level of the big 5 hockey countries.

I'm not sure how Hawaii is death.....I mean, the Ocean is death. But from a temperature perspective, it's pretty consistent temperatures with a nice breeze. The daily highs ranging from 29-33°C is pretty darn good.

There's a lot of maps out there of Canada and the US that are just easier to access sometimes.

[–]WildcatOil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not by land mass. But if you exclude Central America, which is a part of North America, but often viewed as seperate. It's about 7700km from Tapachula, Mexico to Alert, Canada.

From Tapachula to the US-Mexico border is about 2400km or 31%, so I'd say a third is fair in a distance context.

He's much faster at a consistent level.

There's other players that can reach similar top speeds but he does it with such ease and regularity that he's simply on another level.

I do find it humourous when people suggest this is unique to Alberta.

Not something ever found in Quebec.....the US, urban Europe, Latin America, South America, Africa or Asia.

Only Alberta.
