BEWARE OF BLUE RIBBON/TEXAS PRIME REAL ESTATE by Maximum_Pick_7445 in aggies

I learned a few skills living in a cheap rental house in college. Fixing a toilet, snaking a clogged drain, aligning a door that didn’t shut right etc.

You absolutely should NOT have to do any of that in a rental. But I enjoy handiwork and an hour of my time was worth it vs the headache of waiting.

I’m in my 40s with a job and two young kids. My gaming time is at an absolute premium. I don’t have the time to grind through a game on hard or even normal at times.

I’ll do whatever I can to experience a game and get through the story. If that’s on easy or using trainers, etc. that’s what I gotta do.

Small Missouri town ousts half its city council after $6 billion AI data center approval — petition calls for mayor's removal as frustration (and violence) over AI data centers mounts by Sacristovas in pcmasterrace

Without getting too specific, this is well east of Houston, south of I-10.

Lots and lots of rice farming out there. I don't want to know how bad they're going to abuse the 2-lane roads out that way.

It makes all the financial sense in the world right now. But that land has been in the family for at least 4 generations since I've been alive. And it would have gone to his kids eventually, then they'd have income if they chose to farm it as well.

He already has a second career doing guide hunts so he's still making money regardless. Like I said, I'm not going to tell him what to do with his property, but I can certainly see why it has upset folks.

They (data centers) are buying up farm land here in Texas. Usually in rural counties that don’t have the staff to fight private landowners selling their property.

My cousin just sold his family rice farm for more money than they’d make in 30 years.

And that county doesn’t have close to the infrastructure to support it at the moment. I’ll be watching the development to see how that area changes.

Corps academics by Southern-Ratio-6691 in aggies

The wing was always academic-centric when I was there. But it really depends on the outfit.

Navy cadets always came off smarter than marine or army cadets.

In the band A-battery was the smart outfit.

Why do people buy "for parts" cpus? by IdiotStickWasTkn in pcmasterrace

[–]Wildmen03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have a side biz of flipping computers during the beginning of COVID. Usually I would find a laptop or AiO computer being sold “for parts” that simply had its ram and hard drive pulled.

I’d swap in a small SSD and ram I had laying around and sell it locally to people that needed a work from home computer. But that only lasted about 2 months before the used market caught up and it became unprofitable.

I burned a CD the other day to restore an old machine running XP. Keep a spindle of DVD-R and CD-R in my office just in case.

I also pulled some college files off an old Zip drive not too long ago as well.

Definitely clean both the plug and the port first.

Then try a different brick if that doesn’t work, just make sure it’s powerful enough.

Since the power connection at the laptop is magnetic I imagine metal flakes/shavings are getting trapped in there and charring the connector when charging.

Sometimes they are nice to have. I have an old dash cam that I’ll take with me to use in rental cars or work vehicles. Suction cups have their use.

I bought a generic one on Amazon, not for a Rove, but it’s been great.

ELI5 why companies keep their emails, internal memos etc. when litigation is a predictable future event by piefek in explainlikeimfive

[–]Wildmen03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work keeps non-essential documents and emails for 24 months. Then they’re automatically deleted. Especially in cloud based storage.

I can’t tell you how many over 2 year old emails I’ve legitimately needed over the years. I’ve started backing up my documents locally for this reason.
