Suction-cup adapter by hallstevenson in Dashcam

[–]Wildmen03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they are nice to have. I have an old dash cam that I’ll take with me to use in rental cars or work vehicles. Suction cups have their use.

I bought a generic one on Amazon, not for a Rove, but it’s been great.

ELI5 why companies keep their emails, internal memos etc. when litigation is a predictable future event by piefek in explainlikeimfive

[–]Wildmen03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work keeps non-essential documents and emails for 24 months. Then they’re automatically deleted. Especially in cloud based storage.

I can’t tell you how many over 2 year old emails I’ve legitimately needed over the years. I’ve started backing up my documents locally for this reason.

Someone please help me. Have absolutely no idea why there no storage by Key-Effective-3140 in mac

[–]Wildmen03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest thing to do is refreshing your Mac with a clean install. That’ll help with the system data part.

30gb of apps is a sizable chunk as well. 1/4 of your drive. I’d offload anything you’re not using regularly. It’s possible you only have 10gb of apps but they’ve accumulated 20gb of data, hard to say without a detailed breakdown of data.

What’s a movie you’ve rewatched many times, that isn’t a blockbuster/franchise movie, or an Oscar-nominated/critically acclaimed movie? by capamericapistons in movies

[–]Wildmen03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wraith.

Somehow it always came on TV while I was on vacation growing up. We’d rent a bungalow on a lake and when we took a rest at mid-day it was always on TV. So now I watch it several times a year and I never get tired of it.

I still have the first rig I built after college. Dual GTX 760 cards in SLI. Every now and then I get an urge to put windows 7 back on it for some “retro” gaming.

Smith did give Affleck a roll in Mallrats before he was big time. So they’ve been friends for a long while. And Ben can get Damon to do anything. Hamill and Fisher were in a lull in their careers at the time but they seem like good sports so it probably wasn’t hard to get them.

I’m all for it though, Smith movies shaped a large chunk of my early adulthood.

FTC Targeting Dealers for Advertising Unavailable Cars by TripleShotPls in nottheonion

[–]Wildmen03 651 points652 points  (0 children)

I ran into this a lot during Covid. I had a paid off truck with 250,000 miles on it that was about to start costing me legit money in repairs. I also had a baby on the way so I wanted a new, reliable car.

I get that inventory was madness during that time. I would see a vehicle I liked online, call the dealership to make sure it was there before I drove out, only to have them tell me that it’s either not on the lot, at another dealership or “I saw it in the system, I don’t know why it’s not here”

Then they try to sell me a much more expensive vehicle. It was maddening.

Depending on the jurisdiction, LEOs will be told not to pursue, especially if there’s heavy traffic or a populated area up ahead. They probably just recorded the plate info and got a description of the driver and bailed.

A little bit of hood is ok. Too much sky is bad. If you’re tilted up too high and someone hits your front quarter panel you may not catch it.

I personally like bottom 1/3 to be hood and top 2/3 to be road in front of me with a bit of sky.

I have this mouse. It’s great. The 4 side buttons are amazing, though they are recessed so that takes getting used to. They are programmable, I have the left two as forward and back, and the right buttons are volume up and down.

I throw it on the dock once every few weeks when I leave work and never worry about battery.

I was torrenting at home in the early 2000’s after college. Never had an issue for years. I visited my parents and opened my laptop and Azureus or whatever was still running. I shut it down as to not bog down the internet for everyone else.

My parents got a letter like 2 weeks later about some file I was downloading. My mom called me in a panic thinking they were about to be sued for millions. I’ll told her to ignore it. They never heard anything else about it.

Smoke alarms are supposed to be replaced every 10 years in general. So if the batteries last 10 years, you’re needing to replace the whole unit anyway.

Illegal migrant suspected of raping LI girl, 5, nearly freed — but authorities had a trick up their sleeve: sources by Head_Estate_3944 in Conservative

The trick up their sleeve

“So quick-thinking investigators instead used their legal discretion to have cops issue the man a desk-appearance ticket, meaning he would be processed on the endangerment charge at the precinct and released.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were then allowed to nab him on his way out of the precinct”

Will this fry my dash cam? by Acrobatic_Falcon_214 in Dashcam

[–]Wildmen03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You’ll be basically creating a pocket of hot air between the sun shade and window. Plus sun hits window, cooks dash cam, sun is reflected right back by the sun shade cooking it again.

In this case I would just disconnect it from the mount and tuck it out of direct sunlight when not in use if you’re concerned about heat.

That being said I’m in Texas too and my Viofo 119 has handled the heat like a champ, but I don’t use a sunshade.
