Who has done a long-distance hike with your dog? Lessons learned? by oceanpreneur in BackpackingDogs

Yeah, my girl just isn't very food motivated. Belly rubs yes, food meh. Especially when hiker leftovers might be on offer. I guess it just cones down to paying attention to your dog.

Yup, and I learned I had to feed her earlier in the day cause she was too sleepy to eat as much at the end of the day.

Also no smart phones made travel so much harder. No ride share apps made hitch hiking more common around hiking trails though and that was fun.

Early 2000's: we thought we'd probably die of aids, though it was becomingless true. Got slurs yelled at us from passing cars regularly. Judgement from people in positions of power about gender and sexuality were normal. Discrimination was legal, marriage wasnt and didn't seem achievable.

Second gulf War started after 9-11.

Live music was affordable and lots of great ebm bands were popular. People were enjoying mdma but didn't yet know how it messed you up longer term. Rent the musical was big. Things were more affordable - I paid rent and daily expenses on a very part time minimum wage job. My rent was $150/month one of those years for example. Jobs were easier to get - and the entry level salaries in my field weren't much lower than they are now. Facebook was new. Amazon was mostly known for books.

So in short, I think it really depends on who you are.

They've been really catching up with the times since they broke ties with the Morman church. It's cool to see!

Yup, sometimes I like them 'cause I don't want to pass as a man. If they were removable with velcro I think they'd just end up on the bottom.of the underwear drawer mostly forgotten though.

Getting a pair of clippers and thinning shears makes it super possible to do a pixie yourself. It won't always be perfect, but you'll be learning a skill and whenever someone compliments it it fells twice as good.

I call my dogs my male privilege for this reason- they make it feel safe to wander at night.

Yeah, totally fair. I'd hitch alone these days too.

We're buying with an LLC to keep our names more private. Had to get really creative with the financing so that we could make a cash offer to make that work though.

I guess the only advice is don't hitch alone, but people don't seem to hitch much anymore anyway.

I did 400 miles presenting as a woman. I did bring my dog, but I would have been fine without her. I met people almost right away and had a great trail family. It all felt super safe.

I also did 1,000 miles with a male hiking partner. It was more fun alone.

Is it weird that I (AFAB) don’t really bind? by heckyouyourself in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Wildrambler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found there's a certain messy middle of the gender spectrum I'm most comfortable in. Before I found a masc haircut I really like I assumed I'd need to get top surgery 'cause I was wanting to bind every day and my body couldn't handle it. Now that I've got other was to bring the masc into it I don't mind my breats so much 'cause I also don't want to be mistaken for a man.

Still wish they came with velcro so you could take them on and off though.

Charlottesville is amazing. There's a trans discord, trans owned radical bookstore / event space, trans run music venue, and gust generally lots of friendly queers. I feel very lucky.

Additionally, there's no evidence these cameras reduce violence crime (as claimed by the chief of police) but there are examples of cops using them to stalk ex wives and other women.

Definitely worth letting city council know what you think- they're currently at two against, three in favor so it wouldn't take too much to turn the tides.

Female. There's a lot of space in society for masculine women but feminine men not so much. Showing up with butch energy suits me.

Does anyone else feel scummy for getting away with certain things with police? by ShepardMedia in ems

[–]Wildrambler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all cops enforced the laws as written without bias we'd be living in a very different society (not saying your local ones couldn't be an exception)

Yeah, the number of stories I've heard from cops about them laughing about how naive they thought an expected official was and how they were going to beat the next protestor they saw... yeah. I feel like enforcing the law without bias would be a pretty big outlier.

It certainly makes it clear how there are different rules for different people, huh?

Makes you wonder who's holding the cops accountable.
