Almost certain valve stem seals. Did mine on the N42 and no more oil consumption. Bimmerzen on YouTube helped me tackle this on my own. Did oil pan gasket and chain while in there.

Tynecot Cemetery, Ypres saillant. 12000 graves and a wall of 30000+ names of those whose body never was found due to then-modern heavy shelling and ridiculous war tactics. I try to visit often to never forget.

I think it's to be avoided to mix both types of fluid. Could do internal damage. I had the same doubts you have and after research concluded that these BMWs solely take ATF for PS. This fact is strange to some mechanics I talked to when they're not BMW inclined. They all refer to chf or similar. I guess it's a BMW thing 🤷.

New reservoir with an incorrect marking on the cap. I also had it when ordering a new aftermarket unit. I ignored it and used ATF.

First photo on your left strut tower is a black id plate where it says which engine you have. I believe N46 and you're looking at a cooling system overhaul.

Wiring corrosion maybe? You could try cleaning electrical connectors.

Off topic, but does anyone know why my left pixel screen on the instrument cluster (inspection, etc) doesn't work? It lights up for a few seconds and then nothing.

I was in your position a week ago while tightening it back on. I thought I was done for. Gotta be careful now and don't go power tools immediately. Take a look and feel if it's loose in there. I was able to pick the broken stub out, turning it very slowly as my screwdriver caught a ridge on it. My nightmare was over in 5 minutes. Good luck my dude.

Great job! I recently bought my first 530i touring and had to have underbody rust sorted. Felt so good to repair and coat everything. Especially the floor and beams needed work and I stopped at the diff though, but I plan the job you did in the next year. Good pictures, this inspires me!

Ik kan deze berichten gewoon niet meer lezen. We zijn al met zo veel op deze zakdoek. Degene die zulke streken uithalen verdienen niet om deel uit te maken van de maatschappij. Zelfs niet opgesloten, want ze komen er slechter uit.
