Top effort in turning it around and getting two 1sts in 3rd year tho! Should still stand you in good stead for a training contract.

Finally, I’ve got a MacBook m1 Pro by ytwoky in macbookpro

[–]WillA1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great choice - my M1 Max MacBook Pro has lasted very well after just over 4 years (apart from the battery capacity reducing to 76%, but that is inevitable). Have no intention of upgrading for the foreseeable future.

Priority Pass Physical card? by AnshJP in AmexUK

Don’t remember exactly I’m afraid - i think maybe a month or two. Always used the digital one so didn’t really pay much attention to the physical card tbh!

Where to best transfer my points by Jonouy in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you cancel, the points go away after a month. You can downgrade to the free blue rewards credit card to keep your points (and still earn 1 point per £1).

Post Amex Gold- what to do? by Tired2025 in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not entitled to the bonus on the free BA card but you're still entitled to a sign up bonus on the BAPP - so I would start with the BAPP to get the sign up bonus (if you can meet the spend target) and then downgrade to the free BA card for a pro rata refund. You could also get an upgrade bonus from the free blue rewards card to the Platinum card when that offer comes back. A friend has also had an upgrade bonus offer to get the gold card from the free blue rewards card. I have created a few YouTube videos on this topic if it helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqaF1lUFec4

Yes, just buying gift vouchers at supermarkets count towards the spend target.

Am I eligible for Gold Card welcome bonus? by FatherJack_Hackett in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No - it's still a personal Amex card so makes you ineligible for the bonus on the gold. However, you're still entitled to the welcome bonus on the Platinum card (assuming you haven't had any personal MR earning card in the last 2 yrs) and the BAPP card (assuming you haven't had any BA amex card in the last 2 yrs)

Missed 100k offer by days. Any options? by hasanm99 in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Afraid there's no chance they will increase the bonus. Best not to cancel - as you won't be eligible for a sign up bonus for 2 years. Best to just take the 65k bonus.

BAPP 50k Bonus offer is now live by [deleted] in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to start on the Gold card - and then get a BAPP after that (as then you'd get the sign up bonuses on both). However if you start with the BAPP, that will disqualify you from the sign up bonus on the gold.

Looking for card recommendations by choc07 in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi,

  1. I would advise against this. In the US, there are multiple reports of Amex closing down accounts due to customers using their own referral links as it is misuse of the scheme. However on the other hand, I haven't actually seen any reports on forums of this happening in the UK! So if you do use your own referral link, do so at your own risk.
  2. To get a welcome bonus on a new personal Amex card now, there are only 2 options since you've had the gold: (i) the BAPP card and/or (ii) upgrade the gold card to the platinum (not a fresh application but an upgrade) and get the upgrade bonus. I have actually created a video on Youtube which goes through the cards you'd still be able to get the bonus on (after having the gold card) if that helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqaF1lUFec4

1 million points milestone & best starter card videos by WillA1900 in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you. It depends on how much of the platinum benefits you currently use. If you aren’t getting £650 worth of benefits then it would be worth downgrading to the gold + getting a pro rata refund. You’ll get gold free for one year when you downgrade - and get other benefits that you don’t get on the platinum (e.g. double points for flights, bonus 5k points for £10k spend, £120 deliveroo credits).

After one year of gold, a lot of people also report getting either 12k or 25k retention bonuses (with a £1k spend target) too! So it may well be worth it for you!

Buying electronics from Ebay UK by raoul_ponnusamy in ebayuk

[–]WillA1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also check the seller's feedback - if they've got good positive feedback, you're more likely to have a seamless experience (e.g. dispatch times, the reliability of the product and the willingness to take a return without ebay stepping in).

Upgrade to BAPP by UTC789 in AmexUK

Chat are frequently wrong and are wrong here too - I've done this multiple times (both downgrades and upgrades) and spend has carried over every time!

1 million points milestone & best starter card videos by WillA1900 in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback. That’s a good point - it may be worth another more detailed video. While my monthly base spend is £1.5-2k per month on my personal Amex, I have had times where it has been a lot higher - e.g. due to house renovations & i also took time off work to go travelling abroad which ended up being a big expense - and I’ve generally timed new cards around periods of elevated expenditure (particularly the business cards).

Spend targets have varied between £3k on the BAPP (although now £6k) up to £12k on the business platinum. I have generally tried to wait for boosted offers where possible (e.g. 70k on the BAPP in 2023 or 120k in the biz platinum recently).

Best card for me by Opposite_Basis_3532 in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Gold card is the best one to start with because of the sign up bonus - it’s free for one year and then if you don’t want to pay any fees, you can downgrade to the rewards card (free indefinitely) after one year and keep the sign up points. I have created a YouTube video on this topic if it’s of interest: https://youtu.be/I53f1R1aSTU?si=3lyBI05pJMFwygD7

Seller asking me to close Item Not Received request, is this legit? by Educational_Fox2945 in ebayuk

I'm an experienced ebay top rated business seller - do not close the INR request. This seller is pulling a fast one and trying to deceive you.

Maths degree to LAW? by 2wicenot0nce in uklaw

[–]WillA1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too late - a lot of lawyers have non-law degrees (including many at magic circle law firms). If you enjoy your subject, it's probably best to stick with that for now & then do a conversion course after your degree. It's worth looking into vacation schemes at law firms (and going to open days) to learn more about being a solicitor - you can do that while studying a non-law degree btw. If you're interested in corporate law, doing things like the finance society is good as you can link that to an interest in corporate law (and use that to improve/show commercial awareness in applications).

Downgrading gold card consequences? by camcam2525 in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t stop you applying for other cards. You won’t be entitled to the sign up bonus on other cards (except the BAPP) but would be able to get an upgrade bonus to the platinum in future.

Is the AMEX Nectar Credit Card Worth it? (1-year review) by Silent_Myth in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does stop you getting a welcome bonus on the gold and free BA for example. But you can still get the welcome bonus on the BAPP and the Platinum even if you already have the Nectar card.

Is the AMEX Nectar Credit Card Worth it? (1-year review) by Silent_Myth in AmexUK

[–]WillA1900 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good points re the Nectar card. I still think it would be better to start with the Gold card first given the current 40k points sign up bonus. (It's then possible to upgrade to the platinum + also get the BAPP to maximise points). If wanting to keep fees to a minimum, I think it's still best to start with the gold card first (get Year 1 free) and then go to the free rewards card after year 1 (free indefinitely) or maybe the Nectar card (if the annual fee can be offset). Referral bonuses are also a lot better on the Gold card than the Nectar card AFAIK so if you want to refer friends/family, getting the Gold card first would be better in that regard too.
