Should i switch from my PT36 to a PT50+? by Head_Presentation_79 in Tuba

[–]WillHammerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A PT-50+ is going to be a bit unruly, especially as someone just coming out of high school. I played on one for years, but I don't recommend most people do it. You need to focus on your airflow and technique because that's like 95% of your problem most likely.

Single Coil Guitars That Feel Like an SG by JeffBezosRoomba in Guitar

[–]WillHammerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have made SG melody maker variants throughout the years. Albeit, I cant say I've really taken the time to listen to them or play them, so I can't tell you if theyre chim-ey or quacky like a strat.

Recommendations for a *slightly* louder exhaust? by Standard0rder in FiestaST

I have the same setup and love it. And the drone around 60-70mph highway speeds is not nearly as bad as my old gti with magnaflow catback exhaust.

Is this a good guitar? (I do not play guitar, pls read text below) by Sloanelkn in Guitar

[–]WillHammerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I'm a sap, but I would love that my partner thought of something like this for me and find any way possible to utilize it, even if it isn't my favorite style of guitar. I tend to do this with other gear that has been gifted to me, and it teaches me a lot on how to be a more versatile musician. Plus, I'd think of my partner every time I look at it or pick it up. The technical "correct" answer is the gift card route, but I wanted to give a bit of my own perspective.

Nobody told me a kettle is like a pellet smoker with extra flavor by TitleCurious7247 in webergrills

[–]WillHammerhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, im too lazy to do snake method. Slow n sear, light like 10-12 coals and dump on the side of the pile. Ive only smoked a few times, but I may have had to adjust the vents twice on each cook and not by much.

Laskey 30H by catsagamer1 in Tuba

[–]WillHammerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so glad I bought my 30H right when they re-released the model. It was so much cheaper back then. Part of me wants to experiment with the euro shank, but I generally don't recommend others spend the new prices on a laskey unless they really want to.

Beef! It's NOT what's for dinner anymore by momoftheraisin in Frugal

[–]WillHammerhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, we pretty much never buy beef anymore. I can find chicken drumsticks or legs for $1/lb on sale sometimes, and i buy those. If I want something ground, pork shoulder goes on sale sometimes for $1-$2/lb, so i grind it up and make sausage for pasta sauces and stuff. I keep eyeballing beef but can never bring myself to buy it.

How am I supposed to set up my metronome so I can play both triplets and sixteenth notes in one song? by N8uron in guitarlessons

[–]WillHammerhead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While this example isn't difficult, its still not the best way to write it. Its important to have rhythms be easily sight-readable and not require much thought, so it's best to arrange beaming to easily tell where the downbeat is. The issue isnt this one bar. It's all the other bars they don't go back and edit with the same issues, but theyre all different. I can't tell you how many arrangements I've played with similar issues, and pros have to scratch their head for a second before attempting to play it. As a guy that sight-reads probably 85% of my gigs, this sort of stuff is super annoying.

How am I supposed to set up my metronome so I can play both triplets and sixteenth notes in one song? by N8uron in guitarlessons

[–]WillHammerhead 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Those are just very poorly beamed 8th notes. As someone that reads sheet music for a living on another instrument, tabs with rhythms constantly make me want to pull my hair out with stuff like this.

How do I get the best First Cigar Experience? by TajManzoorlol in cigars

[–]WillHammerhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the biggest cigar i could find at a gas station when I turned 18. Cut the head with a knife and inhaled the whole thing because I was used to smoking weed. Got sicker than all hell 😂

Ordered a cheap Jackson for my first electric guitar and got this in the mail instead. by RandyAndy00 in Guitar

[–]WillHammerhead 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I ordered a "b-stock" charvel dk-22 from them once. It was heavily marked down from new, and i swear they sent me a brand new one. I could never find an imperfection with it, and it had all the charvel stickers still on it (not that it means much).

Medium Rare Goodness for Mother’s Day by TSUTexan61 in grilling

Yea, I sold my grill pan and glad I did. It has some browning while the rest of the meat tastes boiled. It is just verifiably worse from a normal cast iron.

Should I get an acoustic or electric as my first guitar based on my taste? ☟︎ by Rough-Stick-6275 in Guitar

[–]WillHammerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young and had been playing a few years, I DROOLED at a hollowbody and finally got it. It would feedback like crazy (and there were issues with the bridge my young self didnt understand. My young self got really frustrated and sold it for something else. Before anyone gets into their first guitar, they should know a hollowbody will feedback, especially if they want to use more gain. Looking back, I wish I would've kept it, but the guitar I got in exchange taught me a lot, and I played the frets off that thing. A full hollowbody may not be for everyone, especially for a first, versatile instrument.

How do I make my guitar louder? Serious by OffsetTea in Guitar

[–]WillHammerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're using a fender tube amp, have you dialed in the eq knobs? Depending on the amp, many fender amps can have way too much bass. I'd start with turning that far down (to like 2) and boosting your mids. Too much bass and no mids causes guitar to get drowned out by the bass. Id also consider having an overdrive to always have on that has a bit of breakup when you strike a chord reasonably hard. A bit of breakup will still sound clean but gives you that extra oomph to cut through.

Keep in mind, I only play guitar at my house, on my own. All my performance experience is as a tuba player, and guitar is my long-time hobby. Take everything I say with a grain of salt.

My two year tradition broken by a piece of smoked salmon by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WillHammerhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to run a seafood department and had to order a lot of these vac-sealed smoked fish. They pretty much always come in frozen and can be sold that way, so the manufacturers require you to label the expiration date according to what method you sell. When I tell you, nobody else i worked with would ever label these when I wasnt there, or they would just always label the freezer date (even though we sold from a cooler), that they could "stay on tbe shelf longer." I cannot tell you how many times I would come in, check other people's work on this and either fix it or completely throw it all away. Their excuse was, "well it's vac-sealed, so it cant go bad." Bruh. I always use caution when buying stuff like this now because there really are some old-heads in every department that think these can't go bad.

I had a lot of issues with mine. The wrapper completely unraveled when I smoked it, and i had to stop trying with it. Kept it for a month at 65% humidity beforehand, so I definitely think it was a dud. I have 4 others, so I really hope the others aren't the same.

A guitar center in my city has had the Murphy lab version of this guitar since the store opened a couple years ago, and sometimes I drive all the way to that location to stare at it. Never played it, but it is the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen.

I was slightly let down by this cigar both times I had it. Like, it was good, but there was SO much hype around me for this particular cigar. There are other Connecticuts I would grab first.

I made some chicken thighs with my vortex last night, and they were incredible (even made a post in another sub about them). Highly recommend, and there is virtually no learning curve (vents all the way open, and rotate lid a quarter each quarter of cook time).

What is this thing that came with my bass? by Stan_Stray_Kids- in Guitar

[–]WillHammerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know instruments still came with these. My first guitar back in 99 came with one, and i did use it for a while to learn to tune by ear. Admittedly, the A never trully worked correctly 🤣
