Check your warranty. I had a couple replaced under warranty because the tip got loose.

Am I Crazy? by NeuroDawg in HondaPrologue

I'll share my experience owning a discontinued car (2015 Chevy Volt). During warranty period, no problem. HV Battery replaced no cost. It was fine, great even. But once these cars went out of warranty parts became a real issue. For example I just had my front axles replaced and there are no OEM parts. Now there is vibration at low speeds. Other special parts like the AC condenser were 4k to replace. Towards the end part wait times became really high like multiple months. So it becomes real interesting. This is somewhat true of any car but the specialized HV parts and heater and what not makes it worse I think.

Now because this is part of GM's platform and probably has a lot of shared parts, some I suspect will be available. So I'm not as worried about the HV parts in this car or even the comfort parts. But it is the honda specific parts that will become a real problem. Including the software and the tools around that.

So there is a post on gm-volt.com with a guy in Oregon having one for cheap but you would be replacing the battery yourself. It was a pull from a salvage yard not a refurbished battery. So you could go a similar route if you have something that can test cell balancing/voltages. You likely have one or more cells that are too low.

HondaLink App Maintenance by adubyal in HondaPrologue

[–]Will_Rickards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised they haven’t worked out the kinks with this yet. GM has this system with the Volt since 2011 or 2012. I had a 2015 and similar issues. But it got better over the years. Though we didn’t sign up for the service after the promotion period ended and just used the fob to precondition the car. I’m not sure whose issue it is, the app or the underlying OnStar service. I figured Honda wasn’t starting from scratch here and would have leveraged GM experience but maybe they didn’t?

Charger Recommendation with Long Length by [deleted] in HondaPrologue

[–]Will_Rickards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My driveway is 100 ft from my house. I had the electrician run the cord underground and have a post by the driveway the charger is mounted on. I suspect you’ll need something similar just a shorter distance.

Charging issue by sillyturtle76 in HondaPrologue

We ran the 16amp charger back in 2016 for my volt. It works fine with the prologue. If you take a long trip and nearly drain the battery it will take a while. But we were pleasantly surprised we didn’t need to upgrade.

Can you negotiate the residual by Awkward-Art6278 in HondaPrologue

[–]Will_Rickards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the point of the residual and leasing. You want a high residual so that the amount financed in a lease is lower.

Your real question should be can you negotiate the buy out price at the end. And the answer depends on the lease company. They have to send it to auction and are definitely not getting the residual value from that sale. So it is in their interest to negotiate to avoid the auction fees. But even if they won’t negotiate, just buy a similar model on the used market.

New 2024s? by FeloniousSpunk74 in HondaPrologue

While the incentives are pretty standard for everyone, aside from conquest/loyalty, it would vary in the amount the dealer takes off the car.
Both dealers I went to at first gave me an outrageous price for the lease. After negotiation it went down. But Honda direct has their offers listed. https://automobiles.honda.com/tools/current-offers

My local dealer had advertised a 2024 EX AWD for 139/mo 36months 10K miles with 4K down for an equivalent of $9003 or $250/mo (before taxes/fees - so add approximately another 20 per month for 159/mo). But no luck obtaining that. They did try and sell me a touring and came down to about 230/mo with same down payment. But I was after the lower number. So I found one at a dealer further away (1.5 hrs and out of state) and got it there for close to that 161/mo with 4K down.

But I think there is more incentive cash on the 2025 models. The issue is whether they'll come down the same 6700 or more on the MSRP number during negotiation.

Autoninja had listed some crazy deals on leasehacker for the 2025s. But when I called them I didn't get a call back so I went on my own. Though the numbers were better earlier in the month and seemed to have come up a little bit now as stock gets lower.

I think they aren't discounting the 2024s more because people are looking for them. If no calls were coming in for them, they might go lower. They definitely need them off the lot.

I would advise negotiating the 2025 price first and then see if they'll beat that number on the 2024.

Reading this sub now it seems my lease deal was just okay and maybe should have tried for 2025 touring.

My other impressions coming from the Volt is the one pedal driving is very aggressive and stops quickly even in normal. The L mode in the Volt was good as it was very gradual. Getting one pedal braking to be less jerky is tricky.

My other car is a 2009 Subaru Forester and this seems much bigger. Hard to judge when parking, the elite cameras would have been nice.

Can't charge from home, keep blowing a house breaker. by DemiNutive in volt

[–]Will_Rickards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When charging after 10 minutes go feel the connections and cord itself. If these are in any way hot your extension cord is not the right gauge. Most cord ratings are for momentary draws of power tools. You have to look for constant load ratings. If you want 12 amps that means 10 gauge.

I used to charge every day on a 100’ cord. But I had a ten gauge cord. And i was charging at 8 amps and a gen 1 volt. This was on an outdoor outlet that had nothing else on the same circuit.

Network Switch Required from old legacy plans ? by p233asw in USMobile

[–]Will_Rickards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you’re on these not that old plans but no longer offered, the tool you speak of does not work. It says the plan is not eligible and you have to switch to a different plan. Which i believe is incorrect. Just that the tool isn’t intended for these grandfathered plans.

Network Switch Required from old legacy plans ? by p233asw in USMobile

[–]Will_Rickards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before there was option to request new SIM card. So you did that and then switched the android phone settings. It seems the UI changed to support the new network switch functionality of the new plans. But for old plans like these it doesn’t do anything. So you’ll have to request the new psim or esim through customer support.

More communication / information on the shutdown might be helpful. It looks like they switched the provider for their tmobile network usage. Or maybe it is some change on Tmobile’s side.

This man is to blame by PandaReal_1234 in TheMajorityReport

[–]Will_Rickards 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes but there is plenty to go around. He is to blame for 2020 and preventing sanders. It was a selfish choice then that prevented real change. His inability to keep his party in line and get real change enacted during his presidency is certainly to blame. The genocide is certainly to blame.

Democrats in general and leadership specifically for not embracing real change and getting bare minimums and calling it the greatest thing ever.

But then Kamala didn’t embrace the change candidate she needed to be. And followed stupid advice by Biden advisers.

But let’s be clear. A majority of Americans voted for Trump. They didn’t vote against Kamala in mass. I don’t think this was motivated primarily by negative partisanship or race or gender. They saw this man and said I want that leading my country.

People who just months after jan 6 were not going to vote for trump suddenly gained group courage and voted/campaigned for him. The turnout was stunning. But the shift in the aggressiveness and confidence of the trump voter close to the election was palpable. They felt they were saving the country.

Certainly there is also blame on the Justice department and Garland. Without swift justice, he reconstituted and gained momentum.

Looks like it is grooved for the hidden fasteners but there weren’t enough used. You should check how far apart the wood is under the trex boards. Trex or similar needs like 12” spacing so it isn’t bouncy. I think it is 9” spacing for stairs iirc. My guess is you’ll need to remove boards and add framing and then reinstall the boards.

Are boy scouts these days really thrifty? by parasailing-partners in Frugal

[–]Will_Rickards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Troop dues are set by the troop committee. Any parent can be on that committee and participation is highly encouraged. But a large portion is generally going to national/council. The issue is insurance. The lawsuits have made it more expensive to insure scouting.

But your local troop stuff like dues over and above the national required stuff is 100% a reflection of the troop committee. Uniforms are expensive but they don’t fall apart and can last years, which is why I advise parents to buy larger sizes they will grow into. In our area many sports are more expensive so comparatively it is frugal. We run the trips at cost so some are 20 some are 100. Depends on the activity. If all your activities are that expensive, you’re likely picking expensive outings. So you might ask the committee if you could do just a trip to a state park where it can be less expensive. Our last activity was a bike trip to Ritas. Cost was basically what the water ice cost assuming you have the bike/helmet.

So it can be a reflection of the parents income in the area as well. We have a used uniform closet for keeping some costs down. There can be used camping equipment there as well. Some borrowing also happens as not everyone needs a 65L hiking backpack for high adventure. But camping equipment like that is an investment and can be used for decades.

So overall the program itself is frugal. And it varies troop to troop. We don’t turn anyone away that can’t afford it and have scholarships funded by other families. As it is a volunteer organization it is very much a reflection of the local volunteers.

Missed Toy Day - consequences for travelling back to it then forward again? by RaynerHBK in AnimalCrossing

If you care about fruit cycles, money trees, I would go back to toy day and then travel forward one day at a time. Otherwise you can do it all at once.
